Beg your pardon if this has been tossed around already but, What happen to Sister Sledge? I finally saw that 70's Funk show on TV and they're trying to convince me that two women on stage is Sister Sledge (I hate it when they insult my intelligence). Where's the rest of 'em?

Yeah Chi-Drummer, Kim & Kathi (the main lead singer) were missing. They have another sister Carol (who's the oldest), who used to fill in back in the day.

Wow, Eli..thanx for the picture (Kim is rockin that fro). I am THE biggest Sister Sledge fan out there and Wonder B, Joni was my dream girl too. Sister Sledge released an independant cd, "Style" on www.sistersledge.com (their first with the original line up in about 17 years)last year. It was a very good cd but was never distributed to retail or radio. Kim Sledge released an independant gospel cd "Peaceful" on her own label...Kathy Sledge has been in Australia starring in a musical "Oh, What A Night!!" and Debbie & Joni have been making appearances as Sister Sledge. Also, Debbie's daughter Camille Young was Miss Pennsylvania in 2003. She even competed in the Miss Universe pagaent.

Hello again, Soulful Family

I saw a live retransmition in Spanish TV a saturday night, around a year ago from the Canary Islands, where was choosed the "Queen" of "Drag Queens". The stars guesting was the Sister Sledge. When the veredict of the Queen was emited, they performed diverse songs, ending with a very extra-long performance of "We're A Family" with all the drag queens participants dancing together with the sisters, some of wich with plataform shoes by 50 cm!! Was very "freaky" but, at the same time, the vocals by Sister Sledge, was very soulful!
BTW, i'm not 100% sure if was not another (sad) case when a original artist is suplanted by a "clon". I think i recognized two authentic members and the original voices (?)

They still look good!

I remember the episode of the Jeffersons, they were on. I forgot what song(s) they sang. George (Sherman Hemsley) played/was their manager.

One of my favorite songs by Sister Sledge is Let's Go On Vacation, with Debbie on lead. All of the sisters could lead as well as background..but y'all know that already!

The song they sang on "The Jeffersons" was the Stevie Wonder song "As". George booked them into a Country & Western bar by mistake and after a shakey start the ladies ended up turning the place out! Good episode.

Yes Bobby many people (not on SD of course LOL) think Sister Sledge began their career with the We Are Family album and forget about the great (IMHO) 'Circle of Love' and 'Together' LP's.

Glencro, where did U get that pic of Kathy... Owww I must find a copy of that one...

Here's my modest contribution to the pics on this group.
Here they are in studio with Bernard Edwards & Nile Rodgers...

I agree...a lot of people are not familiar with the pre "Family" material..their version of "As" on Together is classic...I found the Kathy pic doing an online search..sorry, but I can't even begin to remember which site I found it on

Hey Y'all!

I remeber Sister Sledge when they were on Atco records, particulary the Circle Of Love album. There was also another song, written by Gwen Guthrie, entitled "Love Don't You Go Through No Changes On Me".

Love Dont Go Thru NO Changes On Me is just about the slammenest dance song ever----and Motownesque--I play it in my car and almost drive off the road--Kathy Sledge's voice is unique and HOT. I think she was all of 16 at the time they recorded it and the harmonies are sensational.

I remember the little Sledge Sisters from church in South Philly back in the day when they would be on "program". Their grandmother was a great operatic singer as well as their mother and aunts. They were a very nice and musical family.

The A&E Network used to show one of Sister Sledge's nightclub acts fairly regularly. It was filmed at the Roxy in LA. Besides their hits, the group did impersonations of Billie Holiday, Diana Ross, and Dolly Parton.

Well how can you say that Tony since the songs you mention where written AND produced by CHIC themselves...
Chic... disco crap??? Aren't you a bit harsh there... I wouldn't call Chic a disco act even if Yowsah Yowsah Yowsah has a disco beat...
But Good Times is one of my favourite tracks and it is not disco (waht a great bassline), A Warm Summer Night was a great slow... and so many others...

I agree that "Thinking Of You" was a great song (even though that ring tone sounds like a cheap kareoke version) but I could never call the music that Chic produced crap. They had some of the classiest stuff out. "I Want Your Love", "My Forbidden Lover", "Chic Cheer" and many more are all classic.
