Hello,

I recently came across a 45 by Jimmy Hayes and the Soul Surfers. It's a white label promo on the Imperial label. I haven't been able to find out very much information about it at all, but what intrigues me about it is the songwriting credits. The A-side is credited to William Powell, and the B-side is credited to Massey, Williams, Isles, Lavert, Polk, Barnum and Hayes.

This has led me to believe that Jimmy Hayes and the Soul Surfers might well be the O'Jays recording under another name. The O'Jays signed to Imperial in 1963, the same year this record came out. There was a Jimmy Hayes who was the lead singer for the Persuasions, who recorded for Minit records, which was a subsidiary of Imperial at the time.

Am I right? Have I stumbled upon the great lost O'Jays record? Any information anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Eric Klinger
