Nice pics as ussual Wonder B! Hey... I don't think Glenn Jones was ever married to Linda Tillery. Glenn was born in 1962 and Linda in 1949 (a difference of 13 years). Sure it's possible that they got married at one stage but why would Glenn leave out such details when I did an interview with him some time ago? (Glenn is very open and honest). He told me that he is still married to Genobia (Genobia Jeter-Jones), another vocalist with whom I would love to work with one day, but that aside. Genobia and Glenn have been together since the mid-eithies and I have a feeling that they will be together as long as they both live. These two cats have so much in common. Here's another great shot of the band Quazar while in the studio (late 70s). www.thesoulofamsterdam.com |

LOL Nice shot of Quazar Andreas. I had never seen it. Wonder B If you mess with the 'fro, you gotta go! |

Since we started talking about Quazar I thought I'd do a little P-Funk pics series... For those who went on the Mothership...! 1st a book of photos taken during the glory days of the P-Funk show with all the costumes and special effects... Then a Boosty pic I took in Paris at a show we had promoted back in 1996 Another from the same show Now two VHS Japan only releases of Bootsy concerts from back in dah days! 1976 Stretchin Out Live Concert And Player of the Year tour 1978 Dawn Silva & Jeanette McGruder a couple of years ago in T.O Dawn Silva's french art cover for her CD All My Funky Friends Uncle George making an 'atomic dog' shadow... Clinton's (George or Bill? LOL) plan to bomb Iraq! Clinton on the cover of Jet Clinton on the cover of Blues & Soul mag (Trombipulation) The cover of the very rare mini CD given away to Japanese people who bought the whole GC series in 5 volumes... A pic I took of Dawn Silva in concert funking on in Amsterdam in April 2002 (sort of a rehearsal for the NSJF festival that was held in July of the same year) Jerome 'Bigfoot' Brailey with the Five Stairsteps Funkateer Menace aka Dennis Weeden with Bootsy and George during the reecording of his hit 'Doghouse'... Menace on his own these days in NY... The Original P founded by Ray Davies, Fuzzy, Grady and Calvin... Parliament at Cobo Hall in 1971 The Billboard ad for Parliaments 'A New Day Begins' on ATCO but it had already been released on a rare Revilot single A Japanese flyer for the first volume of the P-Funk Tribute to Jimi Hendrix (two CD's on the P-Vine Label) A pic I took at a Paris Zapp concert we promoted at the Hot Brass club A closer look at Roger's first LP Another pic I took at the Return of the Mothership concerts in Central Park... this one was taken on the first night July 4th 1996 It shows Mudbone Cooper from the Rubber Band and Garry Shider Another Japanese flyer from the P-Vine label when they first reissued all the Westbound CD's in the early 90's And finally the flexidisc with the registration form for Uncle Jam's Funk Army!!! Hahahahahaha Thanks Phil... well that settles it and with an info like that one I am sure I will never ask myself that question again about her and will stop confusing her with Genobia Jeter aka Miss Jones... Hey I didn't know she was a speaker for lesbian rights... Mind you I read the whole interview looking for the name of her husband until I reached the final lines... I had skipped the top left excerpt from her interview, otherwise I would have understood quicker!!! LOL By the way how in the world did you discover that Linda Tillery interview... I made some research on some good search engines and came up with virtually nothing...!? Wonder B If you mess with the 'fro, you gotta go! (Message edited by Wonder_B on June 12, 2004) |

ARGHHH!Curses Wonder B!First I screw up and lose a post that took me hours to do and then you have to rub the "Coming Of Moses" LP in my face! Moses Davis- Coming of Moses (Pure Silk 1001 LP)1978 Mose Davis of The (Fabulous Counts),Bohannon, etc.Like you didn't know!A very rare LP and some wild B3(so I'm told). I have one of Demo Cates(Sax)produced by Jackie Mittoo, but I have never heard that Mose Davis LP. Let me know when yopu are coming to Canada next. Now it's not so we can hook up to record shop together,it's my chance to get to France and "visit" some records. ;) Feel free to torture me some more with any Counts/Bohannon related scans! |

Soca????? Damn... so I'm right to ask what these albums are about because I have no idea and when you see these listed on some soul sites you just assume they are soul records... how in the world did this one end up on my computer then... NOt that I dissing Soca here, there's got to be something for everyone, but it is a bit far from my taste... Well I suspect the other albums I mentioned are real soulful (or funk) albums though... sorry about this one $Bill but if you pick up something from my REAL want list then you can put my brand of quality on it... Hey Juice! Yes we spoke about the days when he was with The Modulations. He laughed and was amuzed by the questions because he had to go back in time, I mean really dig deep into his memory because it brought back many great memories LOL. He learned a lot being in the group and he told me that he still enjoy doing gospel as well. I believe Glenn is in the studio as we speak working on a new album. Are you formiliar with all his materials throughout the years or are you stuck in the 70s baby? LOL His voice has matured over the years and most of his new stuff is sweet and mellow (unlike the songs he cut early to late 80s). Wonder B, like yourself I don't have most of the albums you posted in your last post. I do know that most of them were issued privat and independently in limited numbers. I'm primerly interested in the SPACE ARK, MASTERSHIP and SHAKE lp's. If they re-apear on E... then I will grab them LOL. If you are into independent early 80s Soul/Funk then you may enjoy 'The Pied Piper Of Funkingham' LP. The lead singer on this long player is GASTON (named after the town in which he was born, GASTONIA). Not all of the songs are equaly good but if you don't like main stream grooves then this will work for you. Gaston also released an LP prior to 'The Pied Piper.....' (on the same label, worth checkin out). The Rawls & Luckett LP you posted is not really our stuff so to speak (it's very bluesey). The duo is still around today, they released another album a few years back...

Hey Dutch, Thanks for the info about Glenn & The Modulations. I never heard anyone ask him about it before. I have the LP with the ballad That's The Way Love Should Be with Zenobia Jeter. I also never knew that they were married. To be honest, I got an recent LP of his, but for the most part, his music wasn't promoted heavily here in N.Y. I never understood how he isn't a major artist, as he is a quality singer. Sometimes this industry makes no sense to me at all. |

Juice, most of the artist I have met do not have good things to say about the music industry and US radio (unless they sold platinum!) LOL. It's unfortunate that most US artists don't get the recognision or support they deserve! Unlike the US... we European's embrase US artists - they all love being here for obvious reasons! Yes you are correct, Jones's music was never properly promoted (although signed to majors in the past). Personaly he did a great job promoting his latest LP 'It's Time'. Kiss FM in NYC was fully behind it (that's your neck of woods right?). Unfortunatly it did not open new doors for him. Like you so well said... the industry makes no sence at all. Yo Wonder B, No I wasn't at The Mothership Reunion Tour when it hit first at Central Park in NYC. But I caught the show at The Rivera on Sept 17TH, I think? I think 2Pac had just died. For one alotta things went wrong before and after the show, personally speaking for myself. I resented by being disrespected by a certain members kids, and being treated like some kind a phool. Moving on. When The Mothership Reunion Tour dropped in Central Park. I was told by Pedro that they packed up and played at a club for 7-8 hrs straight. I wanted to know where you there at that gig too! I remember the Uncle Jam Wants You pic of yours. When I was a fan, my cousin and some hommies went to the Motor Booty Tour. The band members threw copies of that particular record out to the audience, it was plastic. I've listened to 'P' is The Funk, where George states he gave away the plastic record. I think he meant the "Clone Communicado:1 one. I had the other "In The Cabin Of My Uncle Jam" or known as P is the Funk. Both copies are on The Family Series, Vol 2 P is the Funk. The P-Funk Headquarters was runned by Pedro Bell at that time. He personally gave me a copy of both plastic records, and a few extras. Wonder B, Sylk was a band from right in the neighborhood along with Captain Skyy. My jam along with band usta kick their. Not because of their popularity and because they had an album out. No, not so. My so-called band was mad tight and had the dynamatics plus the musicianship. 'CUZ' Chgo, IL |

Hey Don... Yes I was at that show after the main set at Central Park... That after show was set at TRAMMPS... it was tight to get in but I managed to... after all I hadn't crossed the Atlantic to stay on the sidewalk! LOL Inside I met Pedro Bell and we discussed quite a bit. They played another three hours at least which is you make the count was more than 7 hours that evening...! Those guys are crazy... they are the Grateful Dead of Funk! LOL Yes I have that plastic flexi disc but I have never played it! LOL Thanks also for the info on SYLK... the trouble is that there are so many bands called Silk or Sylk over the years that it is hard to keep track who's who... Wonder B, I understand what you mean by the name Silk or spelt Sylk. I can help you there. The first group to ever use the name was a 3-4 member female vocal group from Chicago. They we're discovered by my friend and given the name by Larry Montgomery. Silk recorded two sides for Nation Records (which was a Chi Town label), the A&B sides we're "Falling In Love Isn't Easy" b/w "Come Over Here". Some of The NS'ers posted once said that "Falling In Love" is a big hit in the UK. I and Larry was quite surprised of learning that. I like "Come Over" because it sound so Chicagoish, I like both sides. 2) The other Sylk was a band that was from here in the neighorhood. I forgot how many members we're in the band, at one time it was a slew of 'em. Their specality we're R&B/Funk/Jazz as probably desribed of the lp you have. They made an 2nd lp, but i don't what went wrong? They made some splash around town here and gigging around here and there, as far as to travel out of town too. I guess when they we're trying to get in the music biz, they've musta hit a snag somewhere. They also went by the Smooth as Sylk. 3) The 3rd group of Silk and/or spelled Sylk was a protege male vocal group of Hip Hop/R&B singer Keith Sweat which is a big star here in the states. I don't know where he came up with the name? I do know the female vocal group had some regional play in places like NY and ATL, etc. CUZ Chgo, IL |

WB, There are indeed numerous bands who have recorded using the name SILK. I can understand the confusion! The most popular and best selling of all the groups named Silk is (as previously mentioned), the 90s US R&B male vocal group (who have just released another CD, independently I might add), then there used to be a UK group called Silk as well, recording for RCA Records. This Rock & Roll band should not be confused with any of the other groups named Silk. Their discography is as follows: Silk - 'I Won't Last A Day Without You' b/w 'Flying Song' (CBS Records 1972) UK Silk - 'Happy Together' b/w 'Wilshire Boulevard' (CBS Records 1973) UK Silk - 'Sing Me A Song' b/w 'Freewheelin'' (CBS Records 1973) UK After a little bit of research they other day I stumbled upon an LP by yet another group called Silk. Confusing? LOL Now this group recorded a self titled album on Bell in 1976 (incl: 'The Kids A Punk' and Everyday Anyway). A few other (Silk) groups discussed by you guys. SILK MIDNIGHT DANCER (PHILADELPHIA INTERNATIONAL 1979). Debra Henry (vocals), Melvin Watson (Bass), Tyrone Durham (Drums), Clement Burnette (Guitar), Dwight Smith (Clavinet), Alvin Brown (Brass) and Charles Mann (Saxophone). This group should not be confused with vocal trio Silk (Marlena Jeter, Maxi Anderson and Gwen Machu, a top background vocal session trio from Los Angeles who recorded an RCA/Prelude album 'Smooth As Silk in 1977). TRACK LIST: 1. Midnight Dancer 2. Your Good Loving 3. Secrets 4. I Can't Stop (Turning You On) 5. Love's Gonna Get You (In The End) 6. Debbie's Disco Theme 7. Get On Up 8. Keep Dancing SILK SMOOTH AS SILK (RCA/PRELUDE 1977) This group was formerly known as Anglo Saxon Brown, who released one LP in 1976 for Atlantic Records titled, 'Songs For Evolution'). TRACK LIST: 1. I Know I Didn't Do You Wrong 2. Give Yourself to Me 3. Leaving Me 4. Call Me 5. Live While You Can 6. Party Pt. 1 & 2 7. Ain't No Need of Crying 8. On Fire 9. Let Him Go I do remember seeing the Silk LP on eBay most recently (the LP which you, nor I know anything about) however I believe this may well be the same group who dropped Smooth As Silk but then again I dont!! LOL Whats so confusing is that both records were issued/distributed by Prelude. Maan I gotta go and hunt this record! Lets wish each other good luck!! LOL Andreas www.thesoulofamsterdam.com |

Additional SILK info... Maurice Jackson, vocalist, formerly of the group Silk, started his career in Reno Nevada 1966. In that year a group called Checkmates Ltd who sponsored his first recording ('Love Has Left Us'). In 1969 after moving back to Chicago E. Rondney Jones became his manager. His next big recording was a song called 'Lucky Fellow'. This song was produced by the famed late Donny Hathaway & Emmett Garner. In 1970 Eddie Thomas co-produced on Curtom Records his next project with the famous R&B group (Independents). This group was hot to go! With songs like: Missing You, Baby I've Been, & fame R&B Cut" Leaving Me". In 1974 he left the Independents and formed a group called Silk. They recorded two albums on Prelude Records. In 1979 he left the enterainment world and went into the ministry. Now he's a pastor for Christ speading the gospel and Christ's Love at Fellowship Bible Mission Church in Chicago at 95th & Jeffery I believe the two other lead vocalists of Silk, Eric and Arthur are also into gospel these days. Best wishes, Andreas |

That 1973 photo from "Three Tough Guys" was taken on the northeast corner of Dearborn and Randolph in Chicago across the street from the old United Artists Theater. |

Wonder B, The Pearl Box Revue album "Call Me Misster" was a nasty as you wanna B rated XXX comedy LP. Etta James once once told that they use to open for her at some of the clubs back in the sixties, she loved them. |

Don Here, Wonder B, the James Brown was a triple live lp. I confirmed it with my former air personality buddy. I believe it to be true, cause like I said in my earlier post on this thread that I owned this rare triple set lp. You are correct in the songlist Wonder B. To any doubters, you all only know it as a double lp, because that's really you all know (no pun intended). At the time, I believe there we're only a few, few copies pressed. I had mine. Wonder B you are correct. |
