Thanks to David Meikle for remembering me (!) and for asking about Shout.

The Robert Ward/Lupine compilation came about when I renewed an old acquaintance with Jeffrey Kruger, who ran UK Ember Records and was shrewd enough to arrange 'in perpetuity' license deals, so that material issued on Ember group labels over the years was available for re-packaging.
It was a challenge to integrate tracks from "Original Sounds of Detroit" and "Back to Back- Supremes(Primettes) and Eddie Floyd",then try to research who were the male featured singers on the Primettes tracks- with a little educated guesswork. Likewise the Floyd tracks, mainly from Lupine but a couple from Safice.

From the Ember vaults I also coupled the James Brown LP "Tell Me What You're Gonna Do" with some of the Floyd tracks to generate "Soul Brothers", then did a search in the vaults to compile "Heralding the Hits"- lots of R&B hits and collectables from US Ember/Herald, plus a whole CD of obscure but quality doo-wop.

Shout Records was originated by Mark Stratford, who runs a pop retro label RPM, and who called me in as consultant- and now label manager(!). He had become aware of the history/pedigree of Shout Mag (we originally borrowed the Isley's song for the magazine title), and used the name and my resources to launch a specialist soul re-issue label, looking to share the market and brand-awareness of Kent, Grapevine and others.

The initial dozen or so releases were a result of access to Charly 'catalog' material and based upon my 'knowledge' of market gaps and personal tastes- hence The Toussaint Touch and Johnny Adams 'Released' memorial CD, Joe Simon, Jerry Butler, etc, then we inherited some projects when Connoisseur Collection folded, from which came the Joe Tex two-fers, Bobby Moore, Vibrations, and the well-received (personal favourite) Knight Brothers/Carltons.

We have applied for more from Universal, and some items from Sony....always open to ideas, suggestions, licensing possibilities of old and new product!!! It's also useful having the radio show on Solar to help promote these CDs!

Have also considered scanning/posting Shout magazine on a website, and will consider any help or suggestions with this idea.

Clive
there was a great Johnny Otis album that came out on Ember years ago (the Speciality logo was also on the album cover)called Formidable which featured Mama He's Making Eyes at me and one of my favourites,Romance in the Dark. Great vocals from one of his singers at the time- name escapes me just at the moment sadly.
Don't know how it ended up on Ember as the single of Mama/Romance was on Capitol when issued in the late 50's.Doesn't sound like new versions.
Might be worth considering for cd issue.
