Famous for the 1963 hit on RCA Victor "The End Of The World", Skeeter Davis has died at age 72 from breast cancer. I'm not sure when or where, but there is a small piece on this in today's Orlando Sentinel. I never knew that at one time she was married to Ralph Emery of the Nashville Network. |

She also made the only commercial release of a great "Girls Group song written by Carole King and Gerry Goffin "I Can't Stay Mad at You". She toned down her "Country" accent for that one, and it is a very nice "Girls Group" record. |

Hey Robb K, It was just such a straight copy of Breaking Up Is Hard To Do, which is why I didn't really like it. Her lp at the time was aimed pop and she also did Keep Your Hands Off My Baby, which I'm sure Goffin & King produced, on her lp. |

There's an article on www.cmt.com about the funeral, which was held at Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on Wednsday. Randy Travis. Vince Gill and Amy Grant among others performed at the service. From the look of the list of people who were there, a big chuck of traditional country were there. I didn't know she was married to NRBQ's bassist Joe Spampinato, which might explain the NRBQ/Davis LP "She Sings, They Play", which includes the niftiest version of "Some Day My Prince Will Come" I've ever heard. |

Basically, I remember that when I was 3 years old, I constantly heard The End Of The World. Even as a 3 year old, I loved that song. I never heard much else by her, but she created a song that I will always associate with a quieter & relatively kinder place & time in many of our lives. Ironically, even though its lyrics are most decidely unhappy, I always associated it with some very pleasant times! R.I.P. |

Hey Juice!!! How goes it! I remember that song!!! I LOVED it!! I agree the lyrics were not very cheery...but the song was beautifully sung. May Ms. Davis rest in peace.. |

"The End Of The World" and "I Can't Stay Mad At You" are two of my favorite oldies of all time. Rest well, Skeeter. Kevin Goins - KevGo |

Hey jrlo, What's up there?? Yes, as I grew older & understood the lyrics, it didn't matter. I still envisioned myself as a 3 year old playing on the floor with my toys, Big Loo, King Zor & Clancy The Clown. It still conjures up great memories, though her passing reminds me that I too, am getting older. |
