Wow! I love this lady's voice! Great new inter-
\view with her in the magazine Sister 2 Sister.
Amazing how she sued and won against Motown and
stayed on good terms with the Gordys through it
all. Reading that made me think of Mary Wells.
Anyway, she apparently has a recent hit out.
Same mag has brief interview with Rick James and
coverage of his funeral service.

Hi Randy,
I heard Teena CD this weekend over at a friend's house while his neighbor was having a backyard cook out with his family. I really liked what I heard so far. I recall when Rick burst on the scene I thought no other artist could match his style, especially his songwriting, I think he was one of the last of the great one's. Teena Marie seems to be the only one that ever came the closest to Rick. She came to Chicago last week for a CD signing. I think she's giving us many musical memories. I think T and The Stone City Band should band together and go on the road and kick some boss azz. This would be a dynamite pairing without a doubt.

It's interesting. Teena is a huge talent, who's vocal range is immense.

Correct me if I'm wrong people, but, I've read that Teena felt she was sadly under used and often misunderstood at Motown.

Here was this powerhouse of a singer signed to a black record label, and I'm sure they didn't really know what to do with her, or how to market her at times.

Oh I think they DID know what to do with her and
how to market her. They intentionally did NOT
show her picture on her first lp because she WAS
white. In the interview she says no one has
ever understood her as an artist like Berry Gordy.
