Once again Mel you've done it again showing your great pics as always. The Flirtations pic doesn't have Laura Willis meant Laura Tucker. This group Laura was with for a brief time during their recording career. During this time Laura had left The Kittens for a brief moment and eventfully return to The Kittens. I know this sounds a bit puzzling with her being in The Kudoks, The Kittens, Silk, Flirtations and Peaches(a earlier Jerry Butler bkgrd vocal group)? I heard somewhere in an earlier SD Thread that Peaches made an lp. I knew she was backing Mr. Butler although I had no idea Peaches made a lp?

Don, I believe the Flirtations 45 is from Holland or Germany, but I may be wrong (Mel ?). Those are french pressings : Linda Jones EP, Buddy Lamp, Seven Souls, Derek Martin, Hesitations, Shirley Ellis EP. In the sixties, many EP's were released here in France, and they all had some beautiful glossy covers

the English Decca label's material was issued in the U.S. on London Records which also used Parrot, Deram , remember back then we had our own Decca label here which had nothing to do with English Decca.

Phil: The Hesitations we're a Chicago group I believe, unless their was another group that went by the name? The Seven Souls we're actually a band they had a lead vocalist, but we're an instrumental band. I remember they recorded with Wm. Mickey Stevenson's Venture label at one time. I think they recorded 2 sides for Venture, and they we're Mickey's studio & live backing band for Venture artist.

Ron Murphy: The only Parrot label I heard of was owned by The Late Al Benson, a local Chicago DJ of the golden era of urban/black radio. I thought his labels Parrot & Chance we're distribution locally. I know the US arm of Decca was one of the oldest label here in The States at the time, etc.

Thank you both again for the info Phil & Ron

Don,I think The Hesitations were from Cleveland, and recorded a little in Detroit, and a lot in New York. I don't believe they were fromChicago, although I remember they appeared there a fair amount. Al Benson owned Chicago's Parrott label (existing throughout the 1950s (with Blue Lake subsidiary). he sold it to Chess in 19 fifty 9. He did NOT own Chance. That label was owned by record distributor Art Sheriden. The later Parrott label WAS a subsidiary of London Records in USA (19sixties) Much of its product was British.

Teacho Wilshire (Wiltshire) and Larry Banks were NY-NJ-(sometimes Philly) producers/arrangers. Most of The Hesitations' Kapp and GWP recordings were done in NYC. They recorded some Detroit material (written songs) because they were with Pied Piper Productions (so some Jack Ashford material was used), but generally recorded in NY. I do think they did make a few Detroit recordings, however.

The Hesitations were definitely from Cleveland.
Their initial Kapp records were recorded in
Detroit but the later ones, from "Born Free"
onwards were NY recordings as far as I can tell
- the producers were NY based at any rate.

While double checking something on the Decca Parrot label, I ran across this about Al Benson's Chicago based label http://hubcap.clemson.edu/~cam pber/parrot.html

I know nothing about the label (as you would expect) so I don't know if this is helpful or not.
As to the Parrot I know, it listed people like the Zombies, Them, Tom Jones, and the Ides Of March, who said at their signing they were the only American act on the label.
