Congrats to the O'Jays for making the cut. The biggest surprize is Grandmaster Flash, who could become the first rap artist to make it into the (admittedly overrated) Hall'O'Fame. Everybody talks about "The Message" when they mention him and, no question, it was an early high water mark and a standard that the genre has not often lived up to in the intervening years but, for smoked-up inebriated fun & giggles, I still like to dance around the living room to "Adventures of Flash on the Wheels of Steel"! |

Grandmaster Flash a rap artist. The inventor of turntablism maybe and a DJ who played the music behind the rappers . Well maybe a rap associated artist. |

The story attached to the link also says Wanda Jackson is an R&B act, which she isn't. Wanda's a country and pioneering rockabilly singer. |

Yeah, Emmett, as you know, the young Wanda Jackson was known as the Female Elvis back then: long black hair, Marilyn Monroe-esque figure, beautiful and exotic. Her wailing, unhinged versions of "Let's Have a Party", "Riot on Cell Block #9" and "Fujiyama Mama" make the hair on your neck stand up! |

Yeah, Wanda Jackson was a rockabilly eruption in her day. A nice reissue of her early stuff came out recently. She released an album of new material just last year, I believe, which I haven't heard it yet, but intend to check it out. |

I believe the O'Jays have been nominated before, but did not make the cut, which is appalling to say the least. I believe with these nominations, they will finally get in, they have a lot of support from a lot of people. |
