Just heard that Jimmy Lewis passed away yesterday after battling cancer.

While Jimmy recorded a string of fantastic Southern soul records for labels like Minit, Volt and Hotlanta, he's probably best-known for his collaborations with Ray Charles. I believe they had an entire album together on ABC/TRC.

And now Ray has some good company up there. Rest in peace, Jimmy. :-(

Best,

Mark

Mark,

Not you too!!! I just responded to Jimmy's post abour Tyrone Davis. I clicked back & saw your post about Jimmy Lewis. Once again, this is sad news & they must be planning one hell of a Soul Jam, the way all of our singers are leaving here these days. I'm not that old, but I'm sure beginning to feel old. These are folks from my youth & they're leaving so rapidly these days.

Jimmy Lewis: R.I.P

My condolences go out to all of his family, friends & fans!

This is sad news to hear. I'm aware of his music thru my late aunt who had alot of his singles from record labels that are mentioned here.

The "Totally Involved" LP was reissued by Ace/Kent with several unissued tracks as "Still Wanna Be Black". More details are here http://66.232.131.72/MoreInfo/ CDKEND153.html

Go get it - it is simply stunning.
