I don't know why. Perhaps people want confirmation or are hoping it's not true. It's very sad news. Tyrone Davis IS one of the greats. |

I loved Tyrone Davis's music and band.I had a tape of his greatest hits and wore it out.I then bought a cd of his greatest hits a played it so much that it self distructed.I'm now on a new one . The white light of protection surrounds Tyrone Davis as he crosses over to the other side. Kick some major funky ass over there Tyrone and keep me in mind when I cross over if you need a drummer. |

This is terrible. Another one of the great soul performers has passed on. I can't believe that he had two heart attacks. At least he doesn't have to suffer anymore. |

Damn, this is horrible. This has been one hell of a year for Soul music. It seems that every month we're losing one or two of our icons. Another part of my youth is stripped away once more Tyrone Davis: R.I.P. I send my condolences to all of his family, friends & fans. I sure wish that we could "Turn Back The Hands Of Time"!!! Tyrone will be missed God, I'm starting to feel old. |

And once again, why haven't I heard about his passing anywhere in my wonderful media outlets??? I just don't understand the indifference. It's not as though Tyrone is an unknown & he had a couple of MAJOR POP hits. The lack of mention really aggravates me & just isn't right! |

Juice - to be fair - I think he only died yesterday. And it's been a huge news weekend, with the hurricane devastation and the September 11 anniversary, upcoming election, among other things. I have no doubt CNN will pick it up at least on their website, but probably not for another day or two. |

Good morning everyone, I just logged on and the first post I see is Tyrone Davis. Juice I see your name next to it and I am praying that when I open the post, that this man has not fallen ill or passed! But unfortunately, I was wrong, Oh My God! Juice you are right, while I am hearing it from you for the first time, it is sad how the news/media does not report about the ones who are not in the limelight each and every moment. It seems that you must be in the news 4 to 5 times a week to qualify!!!! I have not really watched the news fully for 2 days, been coming home and going to sleep! I haven't heard anything on the radio even, unless I missed it! I will listen on KBLX's oldies today to see if the DJ whose been around for awhile, mentions it. My condolences to his family and friends, may he forever rest in peace. We keep saying it, but it is happening every month that 2 or 3 people are passing away! The thing that strikes me is, it is someone whom I've thought about or whose name I came across while reading something in reference! 2 days ago, on my way to work, I'm listening to the traffic report and what do I hear? There is a head-on collision accident somewhere and there is at least one fatality. This is at 7:30am! Later on someone tells me that 4 people died in the accident. Earlier this week a van with 4 adults and 3 children, hit a guard rail and two children were ejected from the vehicle and into the bay one of the adults, a man, jumped in and saved one, who was 3 yrs old, but was unable to save the 4 yr old. Apparently they were not in their child seats and not seat-belted at all. On top of that, one of the adults who was driving, did not have a driver's license. The last I heard, they were still looking for the 4 yr old. I'll say it again, I am blessed everyday, to be able to get up and make it through the day and I do thank God for that!!! I hope everyone has a blessed day!!! |

David & Charise, I understand where you both are coming from. I think what happen that the person closes to The Davis Family, may have thought Tyrone may have been tooken in for the worst, no pun intended. He's has been having a series of close calls for a long while now. My girlfriend ordered the PBS DVD Special (The bonus airing) with Tyrone Davis, he sounded like he wasn't in good shape vocally. I'm just glad that he's here still with us all. |

Yes Tyrone is still here, it was reported all over Chicago radio starting Friday nite that he had passed and it wasn't cleared up until Herb Kent spoke about the situation on his radio show as I think Don noted above. By the way Hello GeeTee glad to have you aboard and since you hail from Chi-town look forward to hearing from you. Funny we were posting about Chicgao Artists and I posted pics from the African Festival about the Dells and when I first heard the report over 106.3...I was devastated ...hope Tyrone improves and remains with us for a long time. |

Hi David, Anytime at all! That was a very distressing thing to read. I just thought that this space would be better used to send out some heartfelt prayers & positive vibes to Tyrone's complete recovery. I'd rather that his loved ones & friends reading our well wishes & tributes to his musical contributions, than to read us making corrections! I think that it was the best thing to do all around! Either way, he can see that he is much loved & respected here! We haven't forgotten Tyrone & never will! Whatever the problem, I wish for him a speedy & total recovery! Though I'd love to see him back singing, I'd much prefer that he be able to simply resume a relatively normal life, singing, or not. Thanks David for hashing it out!!! |

Hello, Soulful Family! I'm glad to read Tyrone Davis is well! Everyday, the news in the medias should to be "The person X is very well". In this case, sadly firsty the news was a bad notice... And finally a good news and a reason for speak about this great singer. Hi, Zebop, I also likes "Hapiness Is Being With You". In fact the only album I find by Tyrone in Spain is "It's All In The Game" and this is my favorite track. Also i got some other hits in various artists compilations by Atlantic. He got a very unique vocal style, deep and sophisticated at the same time. Peace & Soul Food (and long live to the soul artists!) |

Heikkie-Even if you had posed your comments like that originally, I (and others) still would have posted the info we heard. The sources (multiple radio stations et al) certainly were credible. I apologized once and removed my post. I am relieved that the news of Mr. Davis' demise is not true. However, we're still not getting the same story from two people - with reports varying from mild stroke to extremely critical. So I think we've apologized sufficiently, as certainly nobody meant any harm. And likely the next time we hear of the passing of an artist on the radio or another credible web site, somebody (not me - that's for sure) will again report it here. That's the power (and the downside) of the internet. Everything is instantaneous. |

THERE'S A GOD SOMEWHERE!!!!(quoting Rev. Brown in "Coming To America") I am so,so,so glad that one of the greatest soul warriors alive is STILL among us and doing much better. When my sister told me the news that Tyrone Davis suffered a heart attack AND a stroke (usually just one of the two can be fatal in most cases), it really hurt my heart bad. 2004 was not a very good year for our great soul legends for they are either sick or passed away altogether, but for a while it was "TOUCH AND GO" (no pun intended), but I'm glad that he pulled through and now recovering as we speak. God saw to it that Tyrone was not ready for "SOUL HEAVEN" (r.i.p. Johnnie Taylor) just yet, and I thank him always for letting stay him with us for a little while longer. I send my best to him for a speedy recovery so he could put us "IN THE MOOD" once again with all the hits he made famous. fave trax: 1. Turn Back The Hands Of Time 2. In The Mood 3. Can I Change My Mind 4. Heart Failure (a great baby-making classic) fave CD: In The Mood: The Best Of Tyrone Davis (Columbia/Legacy-1996) |

Hi! In order to continue this Tyrone thread on a positive note, what gems do you find among all those tracks that he recorded but which weren't big hits. For me during his Dakar days there was a great slow version of Knock On Wood (on his first album), Undying Love and his last Dakar single, the ever so beautiful Forever. Best regards Heikki |

I really like thte song he made, I think it was on a certain album that I don't remember. Anyway, the name of the song Tyrone sang was: SO GOOD TO COME HOME TO YOU. I also enjoyed the song he recorded: ARE YOU IN THE MOOD ...and he had a way of saying certain words, that only he could say. (smile) |

If I would have found out that Tyrone Davis is gone (at worst), I'd double check on this incredible webpage, www.soulwalking.co.uk Click the choice of banners such as "respect" (the artists, musicians, etc. who passed on recently--overrated or ghastly unknown) or "artists." You'll find TD's bio in there. Can you dig it? Derrald! |
