Hi this is Kev-Lo you know there were many acts of the 60's that gave us the very best of classic soul. They sang their hearts out and their songs had a great influence on all of us.Now Ofcourse many of these acts were prodomitely male acts along with female acts as well. But there were some great soulful duets acts from the 60's that really paved the way and put a powerful spark in soul music. JAMES AND BOBBY PURIFY were from Florida.James Purify was born on May 12,1944 in Pensacola and Robert Lee Dickley was born on September 2,1939 in Tallahassee were not related. They busted out in the mid 60's with songs like SHAKE A TAIL FEATHER,WISH YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO GO,AND YOU CAN'T KEEP A GOOD MAN DOWN which was the B side. And their late 1966 soulful classic I'M YOUR PUPPET.They were definitely a dynomite soul duet. PEACHERS AND HERB were the sweethearts of soul. They made some of most soulful slow jams ever.Songs like UNITED, LET'S FALL IN LOVE,CLOSE YOUR EYES,FOR YOUR LOVE AND THANK YOU were songs that meant nothing but love and happieness. SAM AND DAVE were definitely one of the baddest soul duets that hit the memphis seen.Busting out with hits like WHEN SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH MY BABY,HOLD ON I'M COMING,YOU GOT ME HUMMIN,and their boogaloo classics SOUL MAN AND I THANK YOU.Which were big on both the soul and pop charts.were just some of the finest songs that a terrific soulful duet like them can do. MARVIN AND TAMMI what else can you say about them, they were soulful, superb, and dynomite all in one. I would have to say they were the best soul duet ever. They had a great chemistry together and they sang from the botton of their hearts, and their music was very inspirational.Personally I still can't seem to get enough of them. |

Hello Submarine! One actual duet for starting: Soul Sister featuring Kev-lo (smile!). Hope both of you are very well. Seriously, here's a few others: Otis & Carla Dee Dee Sharp & Ben E. King Innez & Charlie Foxx Curtis Mayfield & Jerry Butler (really were songs credited as by Jerry, but they sang together as in "I'm Telling You") Peace & Soul Food! |

If we're talking strictly about 60s SOUL duets, Otis Redding and Carla Thomas would be my personal favorites by far. Marvin and Tammi, Peaches and Herb, Mickey and Sylvia, Sam and Dave would all tie for a very close second in my book. |

The Knight Brothers - their "Temptation's About To Get Me" is one of the greatest records ever from Chess - from anywhere come to that. Van & Titus - "Cry Baby Cry" available on CD on "Dave Godin's Deep Soul Treasures" Eddie & Ernie - "Lost Friends" CD compiles their sixties recordings. Don't get me wrong, I like James and Bobby Purify, but their lightweights compared to the guys above. Davie |

In addition to the duos mentioned above, I must say that Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles did some Coke commercials back in the 60s that were good enough to be singles. |

Soulseeker...you can check out Otis and Carla on their "King and Queen" album. It's available at Rhino.com and it features my favorite Otis and Carla selection, the classic "Tramp". IMO, there's not a single bad track on the entire album and it also features Otis and Carla doing killer versions of "When Something Is Wrong With My Baby" and "Knock On Wood". Memphis Soul at its very best. |

Hello Submarine! Tina Turner & Fontella Bass Jerry Butler & Gene Chandler Kenny & Tommy (Gamble & Bell) Bunny & Cindy Hey, Mr. Spyder Turner! You mentioned McFadden & Whitehead (RIP) and perhaps you're right. When they recorded as The Epsilons in the 60's I believe they were two members also (?). I knows that after they were three (jointly with a Blue Note, not sure if was Lloyd Parks), as Talk Of The Town in the firtst 70's. Peace & Soul Food |

I think that the most soulful 60s love duet was the duo of Bonnie & Clyde. They sang so hard in the movie that they died. They gave their lives for their art Hey Soul Sister, didn't you leave out Rick James & Billy Dee Williams???? "Tell me, tell me what you whanttt" How in the world did everyone forget Luther & Gregory Hines??? Seriously, I think that Bring It On Home To Me by Sam Cooke featuring an uncredited Low Rawls, should qualify. The call & response was great & Lou's part was a great embellishment to the song. |

Earlier today in my chemistry class, my teacher was playing "Your Precious Love" by the famous Marvin and Tammi. Everyone started singing to the song. My teacher even started dancing to it. At the end of class, I told him that I knew who recorded the song and the title. He was shocked to know that I knew that. Most people are like that when they first meet me. |

Dinelle, I know just what you mean! Yesterday, I was at Krogers (in Ferndale, MI) and I heard Peaches & Herb singing their trademark song, 'Reunited'. I started singing right along with the duo. I think it's wonderful that you pointed that out to your teacher. Have a great weekend! Arcadia PS: Chemistry was my WORST subject in school ;-) |

Mel, that's a great picture of Ike & Tina. It kinds of remeinds of last year's Sweetheart king. His first name's Ike, and everyone used to say "Ike & Tina." LOL! Arcadia, I know that chemistry wasn't your best subject. I know how that is, too. In ninth grade it was algebra and english. Last year it was biology and geometry. At least I didn't bomb in those classes, and I'm actually doing pretty good in chemistry and algebra II. So far, so good. I hope it stays this way for the rest of the year. |

Everyone's picks are correct and all are some of my favorites, but the most powerful of two artist duets together had to be Marvin & Tammi. |
