I believe he passed away a few years ago. I remember reading that he died, but I don't remember exactly when. |

Hey Luke I got "The Horse" by Cliff Nobles & Co and "Waiting For The Rain" by Fantastic Johnny (in the pick) C in a CD compilation called "Philadelphia Roots" (by UK Jazz-Soul records) and these two tracks are taken from Jamie-Guyden. Peace & Soul Food!

Manny: The b-side of the Johnny C - Waiting for the Rain is called Don't Depend On Me. It is also a classic Philly sound. |

I liked Don't Depend On Me & Waiting In The Rain. It sounded like something that The Trammps would've sang. Naturally, it had that Philly-MFSB-BHY sound. I wonder why that was |

My brother had the 45 of "Boogaloo Down Broadway" (which yours truly broke), and I once asked him "Who was the Fantastic Johnny C?". My cousin, a jazz aficionado/musician, was standing nearby when I asked the question, and without missing a beat, said "John Coltrane!". So for many years, my impressionable young mind believed that it was the great John Coltrane who cut "Boogaloo Down Broadway"...LOL! And it wasn't until some time later that I found out that his name was Johnny Corley. Best, Mark |

Hi, Soulaholic, I don't have the B side of Waiting For The Rain single. I have only this track in this CD compilation that i mentioned. Thanks for your info, friend. And yes, Juice, this track got from the intro on, the same feel of Harris Machine sound as Everyman by Double Exposure or Sweet Tenderoni by Eddie Kendricks. This CD compilation i mentioned, features also a instrumental version of Waiting For The Rain by a group called Philly Sound (I believe is another of the hundreds of incarnations of MFSB). Hi, Luke, perhaps the owner of Phil-LA Of Soul is the same that the Jammie-Guyden. I remember my two People's Choice singles from this period one in a label another in the other and the personnel (executive producers) are the same. If have interest for somebody, here's the track list of UK Jazz Soul Records "Philadelphia Roots" CD: 01- People's Choice: "I Likes To Do It" 02- Cliff Nobles & Co: The Horse" 03- The Fantastic Johnny C: "Waiting For The Rain" 04- Brothers Of Hope: "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me" 05- Brenda & The Tabulations: "California Soul" 06- Corner Boys & Friends: "Take It Easy Soul Brother" 07- People's Choice: "Let Me Do My Thing" 08- Brenda & The Tabulations: "Hey Boy" 09- Bunny Sigler: "Great Big Lair" 10- Alfreda Brockington: "Chained And Bound" 11- Pannic Buttons: "O Wow" 12- John Ellison: "Lost The Will To Live" 13- The Philly Sound: "Waiting For The Rain" 14- Bunny & Cindy: "Sure Didn't Take Long" 15- People's Choice: "Big Ladies Man" 16- Soul Brothers Six: "You Gotta Come A Little Closer" 17- Music Makers: "United" Peace & Soul Food |

Johnny C's "Hitch It To The Horse" was on the same label, Phil-La-of Soul (spell?) as "The Horse" by Gene Nobles & Co. It was issued awhile after "The Horse" was a major hit. It was about combininng two dances- the Funky Walk & the Horse..."we're gonna do the Funky Walk, now hitch it to the Horse" were the lyrics. |
