I saw Marv Johnson and Jackie Wilson, (as well as Chubby Checker, Dion, Bill Black, Vickie Spencer, and Jack Larson) perform in the 1961 film "Teenage Millionaire." I didn't get the name of the first song by Marv Johnson because he was ending the song by the time I turned to it. The second song he sang was "Mary Don't Weep." I don't know the name of the song Jackie sings, but it starts out with (marching) drums, he sings "It's been such a lonely life, since you walked..." I didn't see the film from beginning, so Jackie probably sang another song at the beginning. Has anyone else seen this film? It was on cable at 1:00pm |

Raymond - As they say, if you want to learn something, log on to SoulfulDetroit. Someone there will know it. Thank you. Luckly, I put a video tape in. Now I have new performances by Marv Johnson and Jackie Wilson that I had not seen before. I hope it comes back on so I can see if Jackie is singing during the first 20 minutes of the movie. |

Yep, as I was watching them dancing, I thought of Karyl in Florida. She has shown me some of the photos back in her teenage days, and that flick reminds me of how much fun she use to have at her parties. Periodically, tuning into the radio station to hear soul. |

I had the pleasure of Meeting Marv Johnson in Detroit in 1989. He also performed as a part of the MotorCity Revue arrange by Ian Levine. He was great! |

The Marv Johnson titles I recognise on the list are: "Show Me" and "Oh Mary". Both were recorded in 1961, although I believe "Oh Mary" wasn't released by UA until 1962. Both were Jobete songs, written and produced by Motown employees, although the tracks were recorded in NY. The Jackie Wilson songs were apparantly: "Lonely Life" and "The Way I am" both on Brunswick singles from 1961. |

Nice job! I hope the movie comes back on so I can tape Jackie Wilson's first song, and all of Marv's first song. |

I wish I could see this movie, as Marv Johnson was a good friend, I'll share a couple small stories on this, first EMI who holds or held the UA masters on Marv did not have the master to "Oh Mary" for them to use on a compilation CD so I transfered my mint record copy onto tape and sent it to them. also as everyone knows Jackie and Marv were Detroit's first superstar black acts but the word around was that Jackie got over much better because he would kiss all the women pretty or not, so after getting to know Marv real well I asked him if the story was true and he quickly said "that's right I would only kiss the pretty ones" |
