Chidrummer you are absolutely correctomundo !!!!.....of course the clues were all there..it just took a little Detective work.... DyvaNaye: yeah I saw that and Mr. Big will probably do it too.....The Dells told me that Chicago was the spot they prefer... Just a little note about Michael Henderson....he turned the show out. This man had the crowd wrapped around his finger. In the pic where he flung his hat off...while singing and playing his hit Wide Reciever...he turned his back to the audience...stopped the band....then 1, 2, 3..hit it and he tore into Rick James hit "You & I" and the crowd went wild. Mr Henderson was channeling Rick James, his rendition of the song was dead on, you would have thought that Rick was in the wings singing off stage. Speaking with Gary after the show I asked him if he had ever considered how close these two gentlemen were as far as vocal delivery, bad ass bass lines etc.....and he said ...hmmmm..... not until you mentioned it. I said yeah....betcha Rick would have did a job on "Wide Reciever". I'll tell you all something....I hadn't seen Michael in over ten years, his showmanship, talent and love of performing was clearly evident on this summer night in Chicago. He made my night. After his show he was very graicious and talked of going back in the studio. He is one bad brother...if he is ever in your area check the brother out. The Dells were......well the Dells. Thye are one of the most significant vocal groups in the history of soul music.....They performed all of their hits effortlessy and with the timing and precision that was just uncanny. After their show they expressed their dismay at the condition of Levi Stubbs, whom they had recently visited and said the Tops would never be the same without him. Lord they are a class act if there ever was one. Before we took the photo I told them that I was turning in my Temptation Club card and was now an official member of the Dells, they kidded me about that until the park closed. They are a living testament to what is "right" with soul music and I wish them well in all that they do. Norman Connors and Jean Carne were both on point with their performance after a few technical glitches. Norman was a bit heavier than I had remembered and Ms. Carne performed like a true diva recalling the time that Phyliss Hyman was picked to take her place in the Norman Connors Starship. I'm telling you guys that if I dont see another concert this year...this was one that I'll never forget. Thanks for letting me drone on about some of my favorite artists. and the band played on......... Kdubya |

Kdubya took some excellent photos of the fest. Don,Michael Henderson didn't perform 'Be My Girl' or 'At the Concert'. It would have been nice if he performed those plus 'In the Nighttime' and 'Let me Love You'. We had a blast and I'm lookinfg forward for 2005 lineup. |

From what I can gather a lot of folk have'nt seen this talented brother in a long time. Glad I could be of service. BTW Michael Henderson rules........oh yeah Gary ...uh GeeTee.....On his In the Nightime, he certainly borrows a thing or two from Marvin Gaye...the way he dubbed the vocals were just killer, he sings the song in his soprano and his backgrounds are falsetto.....great record.... |

Yes and full extended versions of the songs. The audience had a ball singing the chorus to Dont let it go to your head......as for the other song Philipe Wynne would have been so proud......sorry about my post I try to get a lot in without requiring the other SDF members to read a "ghettoshakespearian" length essay and I often dont give full credit where credit is due.
