Dyva started a thread about Stalker songs & Soul Sister started a thread about songs of the "Wham Bam" variety. While thinking of songs for those threads, I thought of songs that fall somewhere in between those two extremes. These songs have a bit of a masochistic bent, men who are willing to dominated in the name of love.

One example of this can be found in one of my all-time favorite Soul Ballads: "Make Me Your Slave" by Willie & The Mighty Magnificents.

Willie......POOR WILLIE!!! Willie's really got it bad. He simply took this love thing just a wee too far. I love this song & it's a lost Soul classic. Nevertheless, Willie was just a little too giving of himself & was just a little too needy for my taste.

In the space of 2:17, poor Willie showed me a little more of his sensitive side than I would have preferred. Come, let's see what Willie had to say, and I quote:

Of all the lovely things on earth I crave...
For the one I love to make me her slave
Her wish is my command, you bet...
And everytime I see her, on my knees I get

Make me your slave, Make me your slave
Make me your slave, Make me your slave

This way I feel is strange you see
I want this woman to master me
I'll abide by love's golden rules
Squeeze her, kiss her, love her & be her fool.

Make me your slave. Make me your slave.
Make me your slave. Make me your slave.

MUSIC BREAK

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH !!!

Make me your slave. Make me your slave.
(Make me your slave) I want to be chained by you baby...(Make me your slave)Ohh ohh ohh, cause I love you.
(Make me your slave) Please, please, please, make me-e-e-e (Make me your slave)

Make me your slave. Make me your slave.
(Make me your slave) I need your shackles to bind me....everyday, everyday baby, baby(Make me your slave)

(Make me your slave)Please, please please (Make me your slave) Ohh,ohh, ohh.

SAY WHAT!!!!! SHEEEEEEEET!!!

Now ladies I love you. Honest I do....I LOVE Y'ALL!! I love y'all like I love a barbecue & brand new money. But a SLAVE!!???!!!??? Stop the presses!!! Now, I ain't trying to be NO BODY'S SLAVE...not even for love. I ain't trying to have NO BODY master me & being a fool just wasn't on my list of things to do...not in this lifetime or any other.

I mean, it's one thing if somebody fools you. That's one thing, but Willie????? Willie's BEGGING for it. Think about the ramifications of what he said. He's gonna SQUEEZE her, then KISS her, then LOVE her & THEN WHAT???? Be her fool. I'm still waiting for the punch line to that one.

Another thing that worries me about Willie, is his obvious bent toward sado-masochistic proclivities. Once again ladies, I love y'all! I love y'all like a grilled cheese sandwich made from Gub'ment cheese, with fried bologna on the side & a big 'ol glass of Kool Aid with 6 scoops of sugar in it. I LOVE Y'ALL!!!! HOWEVER!!!!! I ain't about to let not ONE of you Daughters of the earth, TIE me, BIND me, CHAIN me or SHACKLE me!!! UHH UHH!!! NOT THE KID BABY!!!

It would be my luck that I'd get the woman who has a flashback to one of her old cheating, abusive boyfriends. There I'd be all TIED up, BOUND up, CHAINED & SHACKLED up & she'd be there leering down at me, with her mind SCREWED up!! And only God knows if her prozac took.

Since I have no desire to be BEAT up or CUT up, that TIE ME UP crap JUST AIN'T GON' HAPPEN. And no one better ask me to let them do it either. Hey, I've heard stories & I've heard fables & I ain't tryin' to be on no coroners table. The kid ain't going out like that! NAHH...NOT ME BABY!! Gonna have to get up pretty damn early to pull that one over on me.

And another thing: If Willie had a little freak in him, that's cool. I mean, it's not for me, you know. It's cool though...you say potato & I say patato. If that's what floated his boat, who am I to say anything about it. It's cool to get your freak on & get TIED, BOUND, CHAINED & SHACKLED up, if that's what you like. BUT.........EVERYDAY???? Every freakin' DAY?????
DAMN.....Willie had a little freak in him fo' sho!!!

As I write this, I'm left with two troubling thoughts:

1) What ever happened to old Willie?
2) I wonder what would have happened if this song was 5 minutes long?

NEVERMIND, I DON'T THINK THAT I REALLY WANT TO KNOW!!!

Written with tongue fully in cheek :-) I love this song to death :-)

I would have to include Use Me by Bill Withers into this pantheon of shameless begging songs. Oh yes, check out some of these shameless lyrical gems:

Oh sometimes, it's true you really do abuse me
You get in a crowd of high class people
And then you act real rude to me
But oh baby baby baby baby
When you love me I can't get enough

WHATTTTT!!!! SHEEEEET!! What's love got to do with it??? These brothers are like: "Beat me, whip me, hurt me, kill meeeeeee". Baby....it FEEEEELS SO GOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!

YEAH......RIGHT!! NOT THE KID BABY, NOT THE KID.

Ye Gods men, where are your cojones?????

Juice, you would have to make me LOL before I go to work!!!! Okay, I don't think I know that first song, will have to do some investigating later on.
Again, I was young when Use Me came out, but I remember reading the words to that song on the album, kids don't really think about or know the meaning sometimes, I just know that it was jammin'!:-):-):-) When I hear it now, I laugh and say the same thing as you, "he's a fool" especially on the part "You Get Me In A Crowd Of High Class People And Then You Act Real Rude TO Me" What kind of mess is that-LOL!!!

Here's one for ya, on the woman tip!! Bonnie Pointer's Free Me From My Freedom(Tie Me To A Tree, Handcuff Me.) Now I haven't heard that since it came out, but I just liked that song, because she was SINGIN' on that one, but why does she have to be tied to a tree and handcuffed? If that wasn't enough, she said "Put these Chains back on me! Uh Uh, NO!!! HA HA HA HA . Juice you should have asked her about that one at the show!
I'll talk to you all later, gotta go!!!

I hear that Medusa, Keith was a begging man & unlike Smokey, I never got the impression that he was a choosy beggar :-)

ReRe: After all of these years, Bonnie's still funny. However, back in 1979, there were some pretty offended ladies when that song came out. Then when I Will Survive came out & served as an antidote. So, we went from one extreme to the other. However, when some of the sisters were at the club & had a few too many to drink, they were screaming "Tie me to a tree....handcuff me", loud & long.

Seems like Willie wasn't the only one who had a little freak in him :-)

Speaking of Willie, that song is damn near impossible to find. It took me more than 15 years to find a dealer who had that song. It came out in 1970 on the All Platinum label. I am the proud owner of 2 45s. The sound quality was like every damn song released by Sylvia & Joe in the early 70s....HORRIBLE. Recently, a CD was released for Willie & The Mighty Magnificents, who did much of the session work for All Platinum. They were regarded as more of an instrumental funk/soul band. Unfortunately, due to some issues with licensing, Make Me Your Slave was not on the compilation. That is definitely a shame. That was a very popular song in my neighborhood & it seems as though no one remembers this song but me.

Well Re Re, through the wonders of modern technology, I'll find a way to get this song to you. There's so sense in paying $10 for a song that you may not even like. But, I think that you'll like that falsetto & those harmonies!

Re Re mentioned that on in the men/women begging badly thread.

Soul Sister: You just have entirely too many records. I mean, you've got an unfair advantage here. You knows so many songs :-)

My husband played a rare song by George Clinton the other day, I don't remember the name of it, but there is an ongoing line in it and it goes " If you'll be my dog I'll be your tree, you can be my dog so you can pee on me..." I thought Oh my goodness...what the heck was THAT all about!!

Don...please don't forget Tyrone Davis and Babyface !! T.D. was going to appear at a club where I worked many years ago and we had planned to hand him a pair of knee pads as soon as he hit the stage. He heard about it & threatened not to go on if we went ahead with the prank...but he knew he was one beggin' @## !!
