Greetings All,

For the ones that haven't seen it - check out the below site. Do you agree with the first link? I'll say! No comment from me.

It's been said that "Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder." Is appreciating a Pure and Beautiful singer of songs - in the H(ear)ing of the Beholder? Are there some voices that we all should be in accord and agree - that this or that singer has a Pure singing voice?

For instance - let's take Wilson Pickett. Didn't he have a pure voice? It was vintage his. He owned it - and so do all the other singers - Own it - whose music we've heard - learned and either enjoyed or not over the years and decades.

Would one only name their favorite singers as having Pure and Beautiful voices?

I'll name one male and one female singer that I think had/has a Pure singing voice. And of course - I have plenty.

Nat King Cole
Minnie Riperton

One of the most annoying singers listed on link below = James Brown. Huh? LOL!

All,

Hey SS. Show you right my friend. Mr Scott def ranks right up there w/NKC.

Here is another one that had it to me. Just a classy and mellow voice. Loved him tremendously.

Down to personal opinion of course, but if I've understood the question correctly, then my answer would be Astrud Gilberto.

I appreciate she wont be everyone's cup of tea but to me, she has a voice that never wavered once.

The question was the PURIST voices, correct?
Well, without mention the artist's names I see some who's voices were not pure, clear as a bell type voices on some of the lists, some who are lispy, some who are known for nasal singing, some who's voices aren't clear and CLEARLY do NOT fit in this catagory. ??????? This is not a thread about one's "favorite singers" but one about who has the purist, clearist natual voices, am I correct GoGo? Anyway this is not to knock anyone's choices but to clarify the catagory listed here.
Peace,
S.S.

Of course you're right Soul Sister, but....

Everyone's definiton of clear/pure may not be so clear and pure!!!

Can't Ben E. King have sung (to me) in a clear/nasal-y kind of way??? LOL

Now you're going to have people re-reading their lists and thinking "oh, I suppose so-and-so's voice isn't that clear". (Like I did!!)

I'll add Ms. Sarah Vaughn to the list, and Ella!

To me, the purest (and most beautiful) voice I've ever heard belongs to Cindy Mizelle. She's a background vocalist working with a list of who's who in the business. But solo -- I believe her voice is what an angel would sound like.

Yes "Pure" must be defined. This is all quite ambiguous. It's all in the "ear of the beholder".

What about all-time scratchy voices?
Satchmo
Sylvester Potts, Billy Hoggs, Billy Gordon
Coasters lead (not Bobby Nunn)
Professionals' lead
Rivingtons' ("Bird is The Word" lead)
Howlin' Wolf

What about all-time irritating voices?
Dylan
Paul Williams (not Temptations'-but that gnome that played in "Phantom of The paradise")
All heavy metal lead singers
Janis Joplin
Trashmen lead
Music Machine lead
Rattles
Sonics
That Country singer who sang "King Of The Road" and "Dang Me"
Wolfman Jack
Magnificent Montague
Cher
Diana Ross
Millie Small (too "cutesie")

I think that Marvin & Tammi have the most pure singing voices. No contest.
