Ok, I know this question I'm about to ask has nothing todo with Music or entertainment exactly. Since this is the Clubhouse, I guess I can ask whatever..Ok, here goes~~~ Has anyone here ever visited the Pyramids in Egypt? It seems so mystical and magical. If anyone has visited there, could you tell me your experience when you gazed upon the Sphinx and the Great Pyramids. (Message edited by ~medusa on August 03, 2004) |

Hey Juice, I've been to Canarsie before, does that make me a *QUEEN*? Hye Eli, The Sphinx I'm talking about is thousands of years old, and hsi nose is missing. I think the Sphinx you're taking about is not quite that old, but his teeth are missing (LOL) |

~medusa~ I hear ya...I remember back in the day when he had his real nose and was 14 shades darker....and he can't be 1,000 years old, cause younger bro, Leon Sphinx is barely pushing 800...and he's only missing 3 teeth...or he only has 3...anyways... |

Ok guys, Medusa asks a good question here. Now, I've never been to Egypt, but I recall reading about Maurice White & his studies of things Egyptian & the spiritual aspects of Egyptology. Has ANYONE here been to Egypt? The lady wants to know & I'm sure that at least one of us has been there. Seriously guys, anyone??? |

Here comes "Ol' Mister serious" (King of the Downers)! WELL, I'M GONNA POST THIS ANYWAY, 'CAUSE MEDUSA ASKED FOR IT. I've been at the Pyramids in Gizeh and Saqqarah a few times, (1966, 1979 and 1983) - and they are awesome sights. You can see them in photos thousands of times, but you can't really know what they're really like. It's like trying to understand what New York is like from photographs. You've got to see it with the blazing sun reflecting off it into your burning eyes. When you stand right under it, looking straight upwards, it's pretty impressive. I climbed up about a third of the way. That took alot of minutes. Those big rocks are a lot bigger in person. You've got to smell the Donkeys and Camels and hear their noises, and hear some people speaking the Egyption dialect of Arabic, and feel that 120 degree dry heat to really appreciate them. The Sphinx is mighty impressive, too. I haven't seen it since they dug out the lower area and put back the missing outer blocks of the base. Also, they have a new museum there showing how the workers lived, which I'd like to see some time. It's amazing to understand that such huge (heavy) buildings were made by people using no modern tecnology and equipment. It's too bad that the neighborhood has changed. There used to be nothing but desert around (before the early '80s). When I was there last, they were already building upper class residential neighbourhoods in the area. So, when you view them now, the ancient context is lost. You see modern suburban sprawl in the background. |

Medusa, The closest I've ever been near a Sphinx is a brief encounter with Michael Spinks(Sphinx)the light heavyweight boxer, and brother of heavy weight boxer Leon Spinks. I have a vivid memory of coming down the stairs in my mom's house in Philly and there he was sitting on the couch talking with my brother. My brother introduced us, I shook his hand and left to go out shopping. That is the only Spinks (Sphinx) I have ever seen, and it wasn't in Egypt. |

You know Rob K, believe it or not, I too find it very hard to believe that a normal size person could've moved each one of those huge rocks to make the Pyramids. It looks like each one of those rocks weigh almost a Ton. There had to be a very extra large person to do this kind of work. (If they were human at all). Ok, I know it sounds a bit strange, but it's just no way for me to believe what the history books are saying...that's why we all have our own individual brain. (LOL) I've always been curious as to why the guys that wrote the bible never mentioned the Pyramids. Thanks for your response, it's appreciated it very much I think I'm gonna do more searching that out. Thanks. |

Mmmm..the sweet pungent aroma of camel dung!! based on the massive size of those rocks. I kind of tend to believe the theory that the early Egyptians definitely had "outside help" from extraterrstials with sophisticated machinery. |

Hey everyone, That's good insight there Robb. I didn't know that they were building "condos", so to speak. It seems that nothing's sacred anymore. Somehow, I can't envision the pyramids next to a 7-11, or housing complex. They'll have to revamp the school books. Medusa & B.E.: I can't begin to understand how they managed to build the Pyramids. For all of our modern technology & intelligence, we've built nothing on the order & complexity of the Pryamids. |

A Couple of years ago or so, it was on the news, that they wanted to destroy the pyramids, because they were so ancient and useless. I remember thinking to myslef..."Ok, so they've already removed and unfolded Mummys, and sacred vessels and now they want to get rid of the Pyrmids"...Never heard any more about it. For some reason, I don't think it would go well with the Moon, and all else that it's lined up with...It'll probably be a much worse spot than the Bermuda Triangle, if it ever is removed/unearthed. |

I believe that if they tried to do that, there would be some seriously bad karma unleashed. There are somethings that should simply be left alone. |

Hey Medusa, Everything's cool. A lot of rain & some nasty thunderstorms. A couple of kids were struck by lightning in Queens. They're doing fine though. Unfortunately, a couple were driving, passed through some deep water & a power line fell into the water & electrocuted them. Nature is no joke!!! |

Destruction, -I'm not sure you'd like their pop music. It's pretty cheesy! I lived there for a while in two different stints, and the monotony of Egyptian/Arab "pop" music can drive you nuts. I kind of like traditional Arab music, but the commercial pop stuff compared to traditional music, is like what Merle Haggard and Buck Owens is to traditional country and Blue Grass music. It's shlock pop. Don't get me wrong- I like fiddle and drum music a lot but a million different songs that all sound exactly the same is too much for anyone! Medusa: PBS had a TV documentary showing current scientists trying to duplicate the building of the top sections of pyramids using only ancient technology. They pulled 2-ton blocks uphill by rolling logs and pulling with ropes. They could have built pyramids as large as the originals, if they used the same manpower as The Ancient Egyptians, and worked for as many years. |
