Jia Kennie Blackwell Fund
Hello Friends,
My name is Laura and I am a friend of John and Joann Blackwell. Due to the recent passing of Jia Blackwell, many of you have wanted to show your support and love by sending in some sort of contribution. I am asking you friends, if you like, join me in donating whatever is comfortable to help. Words of strength, inspiration, comfort, and love are also very welcome!

John and Joann wish to start a charitable foundation teaching young children about water safety. Hopefully this will include low to no cost swimming instruction for families in their community. This is in the early stages and will take some time to develop.

Please know that your contribution does not only help John and Joann cope with the death of our little NPG Butterfly Jia, but you will also be laying the foundation for a very important community need.

With Much Love and Gratitude

Please Send Your Donations To:

Mr. and Mrs. John Blackwell
P.O. Box 3557
Antioch, California
94509

Thanks to everyone for their love and support for our precious Jia.

We went to the PRINCE concert Bill, and it was sad to see him wear the picture tee-shirt of that adorable little girl on his chest...your could not help but let your heart pour out to JB...but he played those damn drums like the Savior was coming right then. And I mean HE PLAYED THEM!!!!!!!(and for his baby he played them...God Bless!)

I think the posting falls within forum dictates. The cause is entirely worth while and it is up to the individual forum member to decide if a donation should be made. Soulful Detroit certainly sends it's thoughts and prayers to the family.

Yes, I saw this post earlier, but did not have time to comment. This is very sad, forgive me for asking, but I'm assuming she drowned?? God Bless the Blackwell family. I had not heard anything about this until I saw it here. When I saw the picture of that family, that beautiful child, all kinds of emotions ran through me!! They are in my prayers!!!!!

You know some how I couldn't even see the request for a donation at the time I posted this.It was just the tragic news that was overiding my brain.
Sorry if I bent any rules.
I have sought comfort in music during painful times, but have to wonder if music will ever sound the same for him again. Can you ever achieve the same level of joy in your life after you have lost a child?
I have just heard that Shelia E has cancelled the rest of her solo tour and will be filling in for John Blackwell the rest of the tour.
As much as I would have loved to see Blackwell play,I think it's probably left to another time.

Hey Dollar,

Man I couldn't even begin to imagine his feelings. I know that he has to be going through one serious trial right now. I don't know how he was able to focus on performing under the circumstances. It may have allowed him to get out some of his frustrations & get his mind off of it during his performance. However, from personal experience I can tell you that the effect would only be short-lived.

When my wife died, everyone told me to go back to work, to keep busy. I did just that, however, you can't run from what's inside of you. You can go along trying to smile & act normally. It's simply not possible, sometimes you simply need time away from everything...to scream, to cry, to curse, to smash things, whatever it takes to begin the healing process. If you don't do that for yourself, eventually it will catch up to you & at the most inopportune time.

I think that he was wise to take a leave of absence. It's going to take some time to heal from such a tragedy.
