Hey All, What do you miss most from back in the days? I miss many things. When I hear the theme song from "All in the Family" & "The Jeffersons" & "Bonanza" - and the like - I get nostalgic. I have been watching "Perry Mason" & "The Virginian" - and such - on the "Hallmark" channel. The music from Perry Mason used to sort of scare me when I was younger. LOL! I miss of course - my mother and grandmother. I miss the seventies and the fun I used to have. For the most part - I enjoyed the sixites and the seventies to the max. I miss the music of the sixties and seventies - more than a little bit - and I miss the feelings of contentment from that era. I miss the movies that came out back then. I miss the easy-going days of that time period too. I miss the sayings of that era and the jargon we used to talk. What do you all miss from the good and old days? I know the youngsters may not relate - so please forgive me - but some know what I'm talkin' 'bout. "Those were the days my friend - I wished that never ended." |

Hi Go Go! I'll sum it up in four words: Love, Unity, Respect & Pride. That's what I miss the most about those days. All four of these are sadly missing from society these days. We're all the worse for it. |

Juice and Eli, you said it all~~~ I really miss my family that have passed on. It's only a very few of us left, and I really mean a very few. I also miss a lot of my friends. ...and I also miss the sounds of the 60's, the soulful, driving sounds of Motown (Hitsville), Philly, Epic etc...and all dances we used to do at partys and clubs. I miss the Groups, Singers, and Live shows, like the Motown Revues. |

Okay, I may be the youngest here, but I have to say ditto to many of the things stated here. Even now when I hear an old jam or ballad on the radio, it makes me think back to childhood memories or a family member. Isn't that the best thing about music of late 60's and early '70's, it just puts a smile on your face and good feelings just run through you! I miss.... The ice cream truck Archie comic books(some I still have) Zebra Striped Gum Razzles Kool-Aid Sticks(the big plastic ones/u poured in hand. Pez Hamburger Helper LOL Jacks Super Balls & Paddle Balls Pogo Sticks Putting cards in my wheel spokes for sound effects My father taking my younger sister and I to McDonald's(we'd get in the tan '66 Pontiac Lemans and the black seats would be so hot, he'd have to go get newspaper for us to sit on LOL My sister and I playing 45's on the portable/suitcase type record player, sometimes on '78 speed Watching Sanford & Son, Chico & the Man on Friday nights then Don Kirchner's Rock Concert & The Midnight Special later on that night(We got to stay up late Watching Creature Features(scary movies on Sat) with my mother & sister with popcorn and soda & being scared when they showed Night Of The Living Dead!!! Watching the Grammy & American Music Award shows of the '70's. They need to show these again! The commercials My sister & I arguing(calling each other animal names: Pig/Cow & my mother intervening, it is really funny NOW!!!!! Wow, many good things, I am smiling as I post this! Thank God for Memories!! |

Lady Mystique!! Drive-In Movies. When My sister & I would go with my mother, we would hide my sister under a blanket in the backseat, so we only had to pay for 2-LOL. Remember the little heavy metal speaker box that you hung on the window and how you had to drive up to the next one, when it did not work!!! |

Charise! We found a drive in about an hour's drive from Philly and my boss treated her neices and nephews to the Drive In Experience. I think there were only about 2 Drive Ins left in the state! I remember seeing a Hard Day's Night at the Drive In. I was in a complete body cast and since I had a severe case of Beatlemania, I had to see it or I would have just died! LOL! There are so many things I miss about the good ole days but one is being outside playing all day jumping rope, riding bikes, playing jacks, etc. |

"Whadya mean it's not 10 bucks an ounce?" What I probably miss the most is the attitude of "We can make it happen" that I carried with me in college. I managed to develop a strong ethical sense when I was in college, and as I look back, I am dissapointed in many of my contemporaries who have abandoned the "we" in order to emphise the "I". I miss good friends who have either passed on or have fallen out of touch. Then, there's cruzin' Woodward...... |

Yes Nosey, the Drive-Ins are few & far between now. I went to one for the first time as an adult, when I visited my mother & and my sister's family in Arizona-01. We went to see Training Day and I was in shock because now the sound comes through the radio, no more heavy metal boxes-LOL!!! As you know it is very HOT out there, so people pull out lawn chairs and watch, some from the backs of their trucks!!! It is funny,how many young people don't know about the simple things in life, like a 45 is not only a weapon, but a record & an 8-track is not only how many songs are on an album!!!! How did the nieces and nephews respond to that experience? I'm quite sure she told them about the speaker boxes!!! |

Speaking of younger people not being aware of certain things. I have several t shirts and a cap with a logo of a 45 adapter on them and I also have some signs with the 45 logos on them. One day not to long ago, a young lady whom I was recording quizicaly looked around the room and then she proceeded to ask me if I was in some kind of sci fi cult, because she thought that the logo belonged to some sort of E.T. club!!!! |

L O L, ELI!!!!!! Exactly, you know what I'm talking about!!!! Sometimes, I feel like I'm stuck in the '70's because I love nostalgia,especially when I'm at work and co-workers will go by, one in particular, whose name is Eddie Murphy-LOL. I was listening to GCS the other day and he was looking at the cd as if he was puzzled! I was bopping my head, I said you don't know nothing about that do ya? I was smiling the whole time! He did know that he played with Prince, but he thought he had played with Prince for a real long time, I told him they only really met about 8yrs ago, but he was trying to tell me different. This guy is only 5 yrs younger than me and he knows a decent amount of old school, but I have to school him a little bit, now and then! If I had been there when that young lady asked you that, I would've lost it, laughingly!!!! |

Hey All, Thank you all for responding & I love it! I also miss going to the skating rink when I was in junior high. I could skate my butt off. And - I remember we used to do the limbo at the rink on skates of course. LOL! I also miss the hamburgers and hot dogs my grandfather used to bring us home when I was a young young girl - about 5 & 6 in B'ham. Those were the best burgers and dogs back then. Remember - back then - they used to wrap them up in this white paper - similar to wax paper. And the mustard and ketchup would be all smeared on the paper. Mannnnnnnnnnnnn! |

Hey All, Destruction - LOL! You have got to be kidding me. They have the "Sonic" burgers here. They didn't have them in VA. They are alright. I even like Wendys and Hardees better than Mickey Dees. For - Ronald's sake. LOL! They even have "Krystals." They put you in the mind of the "Whitecastle" burgers. I think that's the name. Remember those little tiny burgers? I once saw a friend of mine eat about ten of them at one setting. LOL! |

I wished I could see that!!! Lady Mystique-LOL how many did you stuff in there at one time??? I remember Jack In The Box had good hamburgers in the early 70's as well as McDonalds, everything seemed to taste better then. My mother & father told me stories about WhiteCastle hamburgers and I have had the ones in the frozen food section of the grocery store. Remember at Jack In The Box, they had Jack coming out of the box on top of the building. Now people call it Jack In The Crack-LOL!!!!!!! |

Things That I Miss About The Old Days I miss Talking GI Joe with the lifelike hair & Kung-Fu Grip. I miss Major Matt Mason, Hotwheels Sizzlers, Johnny Lightning LM 500, Motorific Racerific & Tyco Race Sets. I miss Captain Action, Johnny Service & Marx Service Station. I miss those little plastic cowboys & indians & the green toy soldiers. And the electric football game where the players would rarely go straight, but spin around in circles. On the rare occasions when they would go straight, they would suddenly reverse field & go in opposite direction, or out of bounds after losing 30 yards. I miss the Man From uncle Spy kit that came with the gun, plastic shoulder holster & the camera gun. I miss 10 speeds with cissy bars & banana seats. Can't forget Vvroomm by Marx that made engine sounds, the bell & gotta have that headlight & those reflectors. I miss scooters that we made with broken skates, pieces of wood & wooden milk crates. The go-carts that we made from wooden ironing boards, shopping cart wheels, milk crates & rope to help steer. Oh yeah, don't forget that stick that was the hand brake or the gas pedal that we nailed to the wood. I miss punch ball, slap ball, stoop ball, dodge ball, ring-o-levio, hot peas & cold butter, red light, green light...1,2,3 & skelly. I miss those click-clacks which doubled as a weapon when you invariably hit yourself upside the head with them. I miss cap guns & darts & the days when every block had a Softball team. I miss the days when Baseball cards & toys were something that we played with, as opposed to becoming someones' idea of a 401k retirement plan. I miss Saturday mornings filled with Soul Train & cartoons like the Jackson Five, The Globetrotters & others. Not to mention the Sunday cartoons like Linus The Lionhearted & shows like Wonderama...not the corny Bob McCallister "Kids Are People Too" Wonderama. The cool Sonny Fox Wonderama that played Soul music & had Soul Artists on it. Although I wasn't born then, I miss the days before good old Dr Spock & those of his ilk were born. Thanks to some of his colleagues & their collective mentalities, a whole lot of grown folks suddenly discovered why they grew up to be misfits & murderers. You see, because their mother or father yelled at them on the 3rd Wednesday of October when they were 2 years old, they became subconsciously traumatized. How dare their parents yell at them, or horrors....DISCIPLINE THEM???? Those bastards, they ruined their lives. Insanity!!! I miss the days before BCW when you could actually discipline your child BEFORE they became a permanent fixture in the penal system. I miss the days when a man could defend his family from predators & not be arrested for breaking the law while PROTECTING HIS FAMILY. I miss the days when we were Scared Straight & when jail was a ridiculous thought to most kids. Now, it seems to be an inheritance, birthright or code of honor to go there. I miss the days when perfect strangers said "hello" every morning, just because we were neighbors. The days when neighbors looked out for each other & their kids as well. The days when women would smile at a friendly hello, as opposed to speeding along like rats on crack, ears plugged with headphones. Some of them are so stone -faced, their faces would crack if they ever smiled. I miss the days when paying women a genuine CLEAN compliment was simply considered a compliment & not sexual harassment. I miss the days when a woman wouldn't look at you as though you were an alien if you held a door open for them, slid their chair under them in a restaurant, helped them off with their coat or walked on the street side of the sidewalk. I miss the days when women didn't try to look like well dressed pipe cleaners. When they actually embraced things such as, oh... hips & glutes & it was cool to pinch an inch or two. Nowadays, it seems that big breasts, liposuction & bulemia are desirable. I miss those proud size 10 & up ladies, ladies with dare I say it...CURVES??? I miss the days when women didn't say ridiculous things like: "I don't need no man". I also liked it when women didn't try to look like Mr Universe with 22" biceps & an ass harder than brick, granite & marble could ever be. I also miss the days when women didn't like women as much as us men do. "MADE FOR A MAN BUT LADIES LIKE IT TOO!!!" Y'all know what I mean. I miss the days when fellas tried to take care of home & tried to set some decent example for their sons. I miss the days when fellas wanted to be lovers & not fighters. I miss the days when us fellas regarded our ladies as something precious & not so many "bitches". I miss the days when fellas had more regard for their children as opposed to losing count at child number 10. I miss the days when fellas regarded the neighborhood as something sacred & didn't shoot into crowds of children because someone "dissed" them. I also miss the days when fellas didn't try to switch more than women or speak in a higher voice than the ladies. I miss the days when people kept their little freaky exhibitions within the confines of their own homes. As though we're supposed to be impressed with their displays of jeans with holes that show their butt cheeks & things as such. I miss the days when the only babies that 13 year olds held were called Baby Alive, New Born Thumbalina, Little Miss Echo or Suzie Smart. If not that, it was their little brothers, sisters, nieces or nephews. I really miss PF Flyers, cause damnit, they made me run faster & jump higher. And even though scientific evidence proved otherwise, I don't care!!! Damnit, I'm telling you that I ran faster & jumped higher!!! SO THERE!!! I also miss Buster Brown, who lived in a shoe. I even miss his dog Tiger, he lived in there too. I also miss that stupid cardboard periscope that had two mirrors in it. I miss the days when Athletes didn't make annual salaries nearly 1/3 of the GNP of many third world countries. And they actually appreciated their fans & considered it an honor to be asked for an autograph. I miss the days when singers sang, had classy dance steps & elegant clothing. I miss the subtle lyrical seduction of those songs & real musicians, as opposed to sequencers & lyrics that say S**k MY D***. When women singers dressed in gowns or neat clothes as opposed to skin, with their breasts & butts popping out. I miss the days when Black was beautiful & when Black was proud. I miss the days when we were movin' on up & when Blacks & Whites united behind fair & just causes. I miss those days of promise for the future. Before Crack, guns & 911. Those innocent, unrealistic stories of Fun With Dick & Jane, On Cherry Street & Green Light Go. And by the way, what happened to all of our houses with the white picket fences & the wonderfully kind neighbors called The Smiths & The Joneses? Somebody lied to all of us about that one, huh? I miss the youthful exuberance & wide-eyed innocence that I had, before adulthood & reality set in. Those carefree days of Summer & the joy of Winter & Christmas. The days when it seemed as though I could run forever. I miss all of those things. I miss the tenderness, eagerness, nervousness & innocence of that first kiss & that first love. That girl that made you proud because you had grown into a man. And, that first time that you finally made love. So damn pure & so real. You were in love & you just knew that it would be that way always. That pain of missing them whenever you were apart. It didn't matter that you had just left them an hour ago, damnned if you wouldn't be on that phone for another 3 hours talking with them. Walking around like some damn zombie...couldn't eat, couldn't sleep, too busy thinking 'bout your baby & you sure didn't have time for nothing else. Man, what a feeling!! I also miss the days of making love for 12 hours a day!! Oh well, I guess that 8 will do HE LIES!!! HE LIES!!! Hey, I can dream, can't I??? I miss the days when the word "can't" wasn't a part of our vocabulary & the possibilities for our future seemed to be limited to that of our imaginations. The world was ours & damnit, we were going to take a bit bite out of life. We were simply too young & full of piss & vinegar to believe otherwise. I miss the days when an able bodied man or woman could find a decent job & actually be able to support their family. The days when there was still something known as "entry level" jobs & you could work your way up the ladder.The days when the working class, the middle class wasn't rendered virtually obsolete by automation, downsizing, outsourcing & corporate greed. I miss the days when you could transact business over the phone & speak to....gasp...A REAL LIVE PERSON & not a damn machine that makes you scroll through 100 menus, only to eventually hear: "Our offices are closed, our office hours are...". I miss the promises that our government made to us for the future. I miss the future that downsizing & corporate greed has stolen from us & our children. Most of all, I miss my family, loved ones & friends who have either passed on, or, disappeared from my life through the years. You know, the best friend from the 4th grade who moved away, never to be seen again? I miss the family gatherings & the holidays & the huge throng of relatives & friends that used to gather for all of the parties. I miss the days when we thought that our loved ones would last forever & thinking that we'd be young forever. Back then, you needed an entire apartment & still didn't have enough room. Nowadays, you could fill a room & hear echoes. Oh, one last thing....I REEEEEEAAAALY, REEEEEAAAALY miss my hairline!!! I think that it's somewhere around the back of my neck now!!!! HAIR!!! HAIR!!! COME BACK HAIR!!! These are just some of the things that I miss about the old days. Comming soon: Candy, TV Shows & more toys (Message edited by juicefree20 on July 23, 2004) |

I hear that Re Re, I remember the Urban Legend about all of those Clik Clacks that shattered & severed kids juglar veins or lodged in their necks. They were really dangerous though. I know that they were responsible for many a knotted head. They came in some great colors, clear, translucent red....THE COLORS, THE COLORS!!! I miss Whammo Super Balls as well! |

juicefree 20 wrote: "I miss the days when Baseball cards toys were something that we played with, as opposed to becoming someones' idea of a 401k retirement plan." --------------------------- That was a beautiful list juice. The quote above had me falling out laughing. All guess all baby-boomers are going through this some extent. Even with VietNam, LBJ, Nixon, etc. it still seemed a simpler and better (?) time. My screenplay (oh, no here he goes again talking about this film) called "Point in Time" is based on that. Simple times, great friends, first love, hot cars, Motown music and tragic loss. That is what is in the movie that I hope to film soon (does he every stop the shameless promotion?) in Metro Detroit. Anybody know any "money people" who are interested in investing in such a project? (I really think I'm going to throw up, if he doesn't quite trying to pass the hat for money). Please pay no attention to my parenthetical alter ego...he's just jealous (yeah right, punk). I love this website and I love you all (my word the way he is kissing ass he should go into politics). I remember going over to the neighbors & their back door (as well as everyone else's in our neighborhood) was always open & there were plenty of cookies for all the kids!! I remember the ice cream truck where snow cones were 10 cents. I remember watching Andy Griffith & wanting to be a part of Mayberry I miss my Grandparents and Aunts & Uncles I remember that the boys in my neighborhood didn't mind a "girl" playing 2nd Base on their ball team I remember the school picnics we had in Pittsbirgh at either Kennywood or West View Park, the local amusement parks. They were the good ole days!!!! |

~~~and speaking of Toys, I miss my Barbie Dolls, when we got tired and got new ones, we would put the old ones in my friends Grandfathers' Cigar box and have a funeral and bury them in the alley behind the house and dig them up a month later...well, this one time, the city cemented the alley and when we came home from school, we cried for real. I miss my Chatty Cathy doll, who talked and I would cut her to take out the record that made her talk and the Baby doll, we would put mustard in her water bottle, so we could change her...and I realll really miss playing Jacks..and being chased by the Boys down the street, without getting caught...buying 45 records for a quarter...or was it fifty cents ? going to the basement parties with the red light on...Eating Doughnuts every morning on the way to school without getting fat (LOL). ~~~Damn that was Fun~~~ |
Good evening all! Cam: Thanks for enjoying my "little" list. I know that most of us probably have similar thoughts & feelings about those days. Compared to these days, how could we not? I'll tell you, I'd love to see your idea turned into a screenplay. I'm sick of these movies that just don't quite grasp the true essence of those days. There's just too much creative license taken, or, they simply take them self to seriously. I'll buy a ticket to your movie Go-Go: I know that you miss those days. Things were just so different & even though that era had much drama, it was infinitely more kinder & gentler in comparison. I'm glad that you can relate to what I said Hey Moe: Mayberry huh??? Yeah, we always had a girl that hung around with us too. We had a girl named Cynthia who dressed like a boy, jeans & sneakers all of the time. She played Softball decently, although I almost died when I hit a line drive that hit her in the chest. This girl used to destroy guys playing Basketball & they couldn't take the idea of a girl making them look as bad as she did. We just knew that she wanted to be a guy. However, we had no idea that under those baggy guy clothes was a young lady blossoming. We just never saw her that way. Eventually she put the Basketball away & discovered guys & eventually married. Yes, Moe those were the days Hey Medusa: It sounds like you really were into the realism there, huh? Burying Barbie? Man, if you had that Barbie & Chatty Cathy today, you'd have a nice piece of change there. Unfortunately, I missed the redlight era. I came of age with the Zodiac & position Black Velvet posters & the black light that showed every drop of dandruff, dirt etc on your partner. I'll tell you, those black lights sure made you look at your partner & think: "Damn she got all that dirt on her". Then, every time you wiped your head with a napkin, fibers would come off & make you look even more dusty. It sure wasn't too romantic, but we didn't care. We were SMMAOOOOOOOOVVVVE |
Hey Go Go, The Perry Mason theme used to scare me as a child. I mean Raymond Burr had those sinister looking eyes. Also, when I was about 4, I saw him in a movie named The FBI Girl. He played a murderer & I was shocked that Perry Mason was a murderer. It did nothing to bolster my faith in good old Perry. Now, Della Street was a much different affair. For some reason, I felt the same way about The Theme From Alfred Hitchcock Presents. |
Hey All, Hey Juice. Remember - Raymond Burr also was the killer of his wife in the movie "Rear Window." LOL! When I'd visit my grandmother back in the day and if Perry Mason came on whilst I was in the room by myself, and my cousin had stepped out - I'd leave and go find her until she rejoined me. LOL! I am watching it everyday now from 2:00 until 4:00. I love that show. I have to enjoy it while I can - and before I start working again. I will probably tape it once I start working. LOL! The music to "Unsolved Mysteries" used to spook me too when it first came on. "Whatever Happened To Babyjane" used to scare me too. LOL! Start a topic Juice about what would scare us back in the day. LOL! |
Medusa, why did you make my stomach hurt-LOL You are right Juice, those dolls would pitch a pretty penny!!! I too, how could I forget, used to be scared of that Perry Mason theme & he did have sinister eyes!! I was also scared of Mannix! Not the song, that I liked, but when he was running on the bridge, he made me want to run too-LOL!!! I still get scared when I watch the Night Gallery. One episode in particular, the one with Roddy Mcdowall & Ossie Davis!! I know you all remember that one, Roddy was a mean nephew who killed his uncle to get his money, and the pictures kept changing on the wall, showing the uncle walking out of the grave!!! Come to find out the butler played by Ossie(Portifoy, name is close to mine) was doing this, so he could get the money!! About 2yrs ago, my mother and I were watching tv and they had a Night Gallery marathon on, we started talking about this particular episode. While talking about it, the one with Joan Crawford losing her eyesight was on, I said "I wonder if they showed that one, the next thing we knew it was coming on!!!! We were just looking at each other! We watched it though -LOL. I did not know that this was the actual pilot in '69 for the show. 3 episodes , one with Joan Crawford, McDowall & Davis & the one with Richard Kiley as the Nazi are all shown together and are all scary!!!!! I still look around corners when I see this!! |
Oh yeah, I remember that one Re Re. I'll tell you what used to get me was The Twilight Zone. Especially the episode with the movie star returning to her hometown. Remember how she kept dreaming about waiting for the elevator & when the doors opened up, a nurse would look at her & say: "Room for one more, Honey". Then she'd run away screaming. What about the episode "Where Is Everybody" or the episode where secretary Nan Adams embezzled money from her job & runs off to meet her married boyfriend. Along the way, a stranger keeps popping up wherever she goes, asking her "Goin' my way?". Rod Serling was DEEP!!! Then there was Creature Features & Chiller, with the hand rising from the grave. And the board game Green Ghost, that glowed in the dark. |
Only baldness, every day Had a hairline, now it's gone Don't make sense to have no comb Now that my hair's gone away. I don't care, I still miss my hair To deal with my grief, I've written yet another song about it. My therapist says that's the only way for me to overcome my grief. With my mental state in mind, Here's one called: "Have You Seen It". As you sing along, please raise your hands in the air & make a J with your fingers. With the other hand, light a candle for my lost hair. Come on y'all, sing this sad song with Juice (sniff, sniff)........................ Five years ago today, I was happy as a lark Birds followed me everywhere, to the movies, built nests in the park. I have a seat on the same ole bench, though I have to say, huh They don't build nests in my hair anymore For my hair has gone away They all gathered 'round me, huh They even knew my name (juice) They perched, built a few nests But now, all I feel is pain I know I can't hide from a memory For 5 long years I've tried I keep saying my hair'll come back But today, again I've lied Oh, I see my hair everywhere I go In the sink, or in somebody else's comb Have you seen it Tell me have you seen it Oh, I miss my hair when the cold winds blow Life was sweet, when I used to pick my 'fro Have you seen it Tell me have you seen it Why, oh why Did it have leave & go away (ooh ooh ooooooh) Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh I grew used to havin' some hair to comb on Now it's lost, my hair is lost....OHHH Doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo Doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo Have you seen it Tell me have you seen it (Tell me have you seen it) Oh, it left its fuzz upon my lips But left no trace upon my scalp Have you seen it Tell me have you seen it Oh I see its pick reachin' out to me But now my haircuts all are free Have you seen it Tell me have you seen it Why, oh why Did it have to leave & go away...oh yeah Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh I grew used to havin' some hair to comb on Now it's lost, my hair is lost....OHHH Now another day comes to an end I'm looking for some peach fuzz or somethin' Anything that mother nature might send With all the barbers I know, hmm I'm still a bald head man You know it's funny I used to pat my 'fro with the palms of my hands Have you seen it Tell me have you seen it (Tell me have you seen it) Oh yeahhhhhhhhh...eah....eah...ee ...eah) Have you seen it (Have you seen it) Tell me have you seen it (Have you seen it) With apologies to Eugene Record & the Boys!!! Many things I miss, that used to bring a smile to my face. They still do when I think about them. It goes without saying that some dear relatives and friends have passed, that I miss everyday. Other things include the programmes I grew up watching on TV. Mostly US imports like Sesame St, Banana Splits, The Six Million Dollar Man, Star Trek ( original ), Hill St Blues. I miss the really big tasty hot dogs you used to get at the cinema. The disco music of the mid to late seventies was just brilliant but the flared trousers and other fashion items wern't. :-)) The proper service you used to get in record shops. Keeping aside the weeks releases just for you to go through, often being made a cup of tea aswell. The unity, respect and pride that Juice mentioned earlier. Cola cubes, Wendy's burgers, Sherbet Dip, Curly Wurlies, Space Hoppers, Ker Plunk. Films that didn't come in two, three or four parts !!!!. The fact that the weather seemed more reliable, and so, so much more. |
Thank you S.S. & Medusa! I don't know what's up with the hair obsession. It's just something that I try to laugh about. I see so many people driving themselves crazy, getting toupees, skin grafts & the like. I just refuse to go that route. Naturally, I wrote another song about it, but I'll keep that one to myself for now. It's to the tune of "Ben" by Michael Jackson. As you can guess, it's a sad, wistful song & reflective song. Good lists S.S. & Rich. Vonnie & Bobby: I hear you. I still can't get used to not calling CDs "Albums". By the way, it does represent a cult. It represents the "Cult Of The Good Grooves", headed by Dr Funkenstein Esq. Members of the cult are known for their subtle lyrical byplay, hopeful lyrics, lyrics of love, respect & peace. Other markings of the Groovers & Groovettes are: Classy dance moves, pants that remain above the butt crack, breasts that don't explode from ones' blouse & no visible signs of liposuction. Furthermore, their music lacks such lyrical references as Bs, Hos, shooting n****s, drinking champagne & other essential things as that. Approach these members carefully! The meaningful music that their radios emit may cause a strange reaction to those not accustomed to such foreign sounds. "I'm a pepper, you're a pepper, they're a pepper, wouldn't you like to be a pepper too?" |
Hi Medusa, YesI know exactly what you mean. I remember the third grade.; Back then the school library had those ladders that rolled across the wall so that the school librarian could reach the books. I don't have to tell you how us little fella reacted everytime the librarian had to get a book waaaaaaaaay up top of the shelves We used to damn near break our necks, eyes bulging our of our heads to see what was under that skirt. That was the thrilling part, just trying to imagine what was there. These days, unfortunately, we already know what's under there & believe me, all that glitters ain't gold!!! It reminds me of those little red berries that grow on shrubs. They look like baby persimmons. However, if you eat them, bitter is the taste & they'll make you quite ill. What good is all of that fine skin & cute shape if: A)You don't know how to use it? B)You dog & abuse it? C)You haven't developed a personality to accentuate it?? Like Chuck D said: "DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE"!!!! |
Must not be no bad kids in this group. Did anybody hitch rides on the back of transit buses? As D. L. Hughely(sic) would say, "c'mon, it wasn't just me!" Remember running when you heard this, "Hey guys, JuiceFree's getting a beating, let's check it out" Then we'd run over to Juice's house and try to peep inside...hoping we'd catch either some "switch" action or at least a good ole syllable whuppin. I haven't had a drink in over 8 years....but I sure miss hanging on the corner drinkin, singin, bs'in and just being with my boys. I miss going to other neihborhoods around my jr. high period. At times it was like visiting other countries, with their different hair styles, clothes and different slang. I miss all the trust I got from the young ladies' that i was seeing parents, especially the dads. Nothing like good manners and a good report card. I miss when some of the biggest knuckleheads would come to my house on the down low so that I could help them with their homework because being called "stupid" was worse than being called "bad" I miss going to a university with some of the best chemists on the east coast. I miss fights where everybody would form a circle around you. People rarely got physically hurt, and usually, the fight ended whatever conflict there was. I miss intramural sports. I miss rummaging through people's record collections. I miss playing board games like Risk and Monopoly over 2 and 3 nights. I miss the George Washington Birthday Walkaway Sale we had here during an East Coast blizzard. I miss playing street football on sheets of ice. I miss being Grandma's boy. I MISS MY VERY FIRST GIRLFRIEND STARTING IN 2ND GRADE. SHE WAS THE FIRST OF SEVERAL FEMALES WHO HAD A TREMENDOUS INFLUENCE ON MY LIFE. SHE WAS SMART, SWEET, AND EXTREMELY BEAUTIFUL, WITH PIG TAILS ALMOST DOWN TO HER WAIST. SHE TOOK ME FROM AFTER SCHOOL FIGHTS TO AFTER SCHOOL TRIPS TO LIBRARY....SHE WAS KILLED BY A CAR THE SUMMER AFTER 4TH GRADE. AT THE TIME I FELT I'D NEVER GET OVER IT....i'm not sure i ever did. that's enuf memberin for now. Medusa....we've GOT to play Jacks one day. |
Hey Destruction, That's one hell of a list there. It makes one wistful, for sure. The story about your little girlfriend kinda brings a lump in the throat. It reminds me of a girl in our neighborhood named Linda. She wasn't a girlfriend, but was maybe 2 years older & cute. She couldn't have been more than 12 or 13 when she died from leukemia. That was such a shock to all of us. We were young & that just didn't happen to kids our age. Maybe a kid would sneak into the resevoir at night & drown, but, they were older. It just took the heart out of her mother, who had already had her larynx removed due to Cancer. She had a Stoma that she had to cover in order to speak. She was never the same after her daughter died. Like I said, that was one hell of a list. It's amazing what you remember once you start to think. |
I miss thinking that all we had to do to stay safe from terrorists was to get under our desks. I miss sucking the tepid water from the rusty water-fountains in the schoolyard of Stokley School in Strawberry Mansion--not the water so much as using it to moisten the cookies the teacher sold, 3 for a nickel. And I miss my first girlfriend, who invited me to her home after school, where I would comb her long, auburn hair. I could never figure out why she wanted me to do that, but at 9 years of age, I was beginning to feel the stirring of those old "hair-combing" blues. And I miss slow-dancing to "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" in an era when it was still cool to "dip." On a more negative side, I missed the opportunity to have overcome--by some act of will or intelligence--the rigid, reactionary mind-set of the '50s. And I even miss driving the Good Humor truck the wrong way on a major Jersey highway. It was like Keystone Cops, watching the cars zip onto the side of the road. I learned real prayer that day, both for myself and others. And Juice, you might find it interesting that I miss having enough hair to fashion a D.A. (for many of you who won't know, it was a hair-style that resulted in the back of a man's head looking like the rear-end of a duck). That, pegged pants with pistol-pockets and saddle stitching, and a cigarette hanging from your lips gained you a certain reputation. I suppose that it was an updated zoot-suiter look. (And, by the way, Juice, I don't think that I can change my notsocool designation without losing my "Debutant" status. This is a conundrum ) Bob F. (Message edited by notsocool66 on July 30, 2004) |
Bob, Just keep posting and soon you can wear all those cool 50's clothes again with pride. RE: The DA.. We would spend more time looking at the back of our heads through a second mirror striving to get that DA just right. Bob. You forgot to mention the points. |
Thanks for your kind words, Ralph. Your method of D.A. maintenance was a bit different from ours, however. We would check each other out and adjust the other guy's "A," with a comb or finger, if necessary. In an era when there was almost universal homophobia, I can't believe that we allowed that much personal contact So I guess there was, in addition to a difference in sounds, the Philly D.A. vs the Motown D.A. Soul Sister: DAMN!!!! Where were YOU when I was a mere lad growing up in Rochester, NY!!! What I miss the most about the "old days" - Blow-out afros & the Quo Vadis cut The wardrobe (from Shaft's leather coat to bell bottom pants and boots...) Ray 's Record Ranch and Midtown Record & Tape Center (where I bought most of my jams) Visiting my late Uncle Bill at Gimbels in Pittsburgh (he ran the photography department and let me buy 45s with his employee discount) Curvy women in halter tops and bell bottoms right on the waistline. Isley's Ice Cream of Pittsburgh Walking to the neighborhood playground across the street from my old primary school Bicycling to the comic book shop and corner store with the neighborhood gang (gotta have my X-Men, Spider-Man and my popcicles!!!. Sleeping on the enclosed upstairs sunporch that was connected to my bedroom (especially during rainy summer days & nights). Listening to 45s on the portable record player. Watching American Bandstand and Soul Train back to back (after the cartoons!!!) The Jackson 5 cartoon show on ABC-TV My Mom's tuna casserole Dad taking me for a drive in his 1968 Dodge Polara Going to the roller rink with the neighborhood gang. Top 40 AM radio (WBBF-AM, WAXC-AM) and the DJ's - Jack Palvino, Ferdinand J. Smith III, Mike O'Brien. The rise of WDKX-FM (Rochester's first - and only - R&B station) in 1973. Bubblegum Pop ("Love Grows Where My Rosemary Goes"), Soul ("Have You Seen Her"), Jazz (Quincy Jones' "Walking In Space" album), Blues (B.B. King), Funk (Ohio Players), Dance (ANYTHING from Philadelphia International), Motown's last few Detroit-produced hits. Seeing my brothers graduate from college in 1973 (Jimmy) & 1974 (Jesse). Getting my first bike with the antler-shaped handlebars and banana seat! Most of all, I miss being a kid growing up in the 1970s. Kevin Goins - KevGo |
Hey Bobby, I had to look twice. For a moment, I thought that Stevie Van Sandt had joined the forum Rich & Destruction, great lists. Some of it sounds vewwy vewwy familiar Hey Bob F, what's up there Naw, it's not how often you post that makes you cool. It's what you say when you post that makes you cool. Good list there Bob. Look at me, only 200 posts & all I can come up with are songs about my scalp!!!! Dessssspicable OOOH SOUL SISTER!!!! All up in the house looking like a combination of Annette, Leslie Gore, Julie Barnes (Peggy Lipton of Mod Squad) & Angela Davis!!!! Hot child in the city . It's about time you put some shots of yourself on the board. Can't wait for the next exhibit: SOUL SISTER - THE 70s & 80s. BABY, I'M SCARED OF YOU Dyva, PREACH ON SIS, PREACH ON!!! I went to eBay & got a lump in my throat looking at all of the toys that we used to have. Won a Wilt Chamberlain Basketball Game that I had when I was 13. Got it Christmas '73 from TSS. I got home from work yesterday to find a big ole box waiting for me. You should've saw me on the floor, testing it out. Man, it's the little things that count Kev Go, wasn't Ms Soul Sister simply marvy & all of that. Our S.S. was quite the charmer. Your final sentence summed it up perfectly. I believe that was the last great era for children!!! (Message edited by juicefree20 on July 30, 2004) (Message edited by juicefree20 on July 30, 2004) |
Hey S.S. Ain't nothing wrong with Size 10, 12, 14, 16, 18. Us real soulful dudes from the old days like our girls....well, you know. HEYYYYYYYY!!! GOOD GAWD Y'ALL!!! Like James said & I QUOTE: "You got to have somethin' to sit on, before I bring you home.....HEYYYYYYYY! UHHH!!! OWWWWWWWW!!!" Further quotes from (in the most reverent of tones).......THE GODFATHER: "You see, you got to have a mother for me." AND: "I'm A Greedy Man." ALSO, see Sir Walter Of Orange as regards this phenomenom: "AWWW, she's a brick.....Howwwwse. She's mighty, mighty, just lettin' it all hang out." Now, in none of the above examples, do they sound like they're talking about tiny girls. So buck up, little soulful buckaroo. You just strut that stuff girlfriend. Just stalk it & walk it & walk it & stalk it!!! Tell the world: "I AM SOUL SISTER & I"VE GOT SOUL!!! SEE ME, LOVE ME, ADORE ME....FOR I AM SOUL SISTER...UHH HUH!!!!" It's funny Soul Sister, because you know what James called "a mother", don't you. The thing that makes me laugh, is all of the songs in which James used "mother". I think the man was obssessed. If we break down some of his titles, we end up with some interesting, yet strange titles. For example: The It's A Mother LP would be more accurately titled: "It's A Butt" & Mother Popcorn would translate to "Butt Popcorn". Whoulda thunk it??? Keeping this musical, The Counts once made a song: "It's What's Up Front That Counts". Well, you sure couldn't prove that by James. I would say that 'round bout '69-71, James was rather enamored of the REAR view, so to speak Like I said Soul Sister, Stalk it & walk it, walk it & stalk it. Beauty is as beauty does |
JB did like his woman tall, broad, light-skinned with longish noses from the women I seen him get serious with, that was until Tomi Rae He-He- CHUCKLE......I don't know any way to describe his women but like that, I hope I didn't offend anyone. His taste has always been pretty consistant. Hey Juice, more posting visual sites tomorrow, I'm too tired now, been working hard all day, got turn in soon. Nitey-Nite, S.S. |
Oh man Re Re, I forgot all about three flies up & kick ball! Remember when a lousy hitter was coming up, we'd used to yell "CBO" (change batting order) & the best player would come up to bat? Err...aahh, exactly what what the "pee" game. I won't tell you our version of that game. During those days, The Galloping Gourmet was big. So, during lunch time in school, us fellas used to mix up all of the food that we hated, to see who could make a disgusting concoction, that would gross the girls out. We'd mash peas, milk, bread, beets, fruits & meat together & create the most horrific concoction known to man or womankind. We were experts, Emeril had nothing on us!!! I also miss Spoonbread & Jolly Ranchers Cola candy! About Big Mama & Grandma, I hear you Re Re....I hear you By the way, you could've been on my team anyday. Hey, I was a sensitive & progressive thinking lil' fella |
Good Morning All, I hear you all - and I miss sooooooo many of those things you've mentioned too. Reading some of it and feeling it really can bring a tear to one's eyes. SS - you were hanging tough - girlfriend. My my - you were up on all the latest fashions - and you made sure that you copped them too. We can all tell that you didn't step out the door unless every part of your person was together - to include the hair. You were tight on all of those pics. Thanks for unloading them. LOL! Yeah - for us afro wearers - we refused to go outside if our fros weren't packed tight and just right. I noticed that Vicki Lawrence of the Carol Burnett show used to wear a fro. Right on! Again - I miss the lingo from back in the days. I also miss the drive-in movies. At the SONIC hamburger joint here - one drives up in a parking space - pushes a button - and someone will take your order - and deliver it to your car. Remember back in the day - when those kind of eateries were popular? DyvaNaye - you tickled me when mentioning the card game Knuckles. I learned and played it in B'ham. I didn't know anyone anywhere else that played it. I used to love that game - although - who in their right mind would want to get their knuckles struck by a deck of cards if they lost? LOL! I also loved playing any kind of cards - to include Tonk - for money. My first boyfriend was nicknamed Lucky. We were in the fourth grade. He had two younger sisters. Lucky was sporting a small afro back then - before they even came out, and he was too cute. LOL! Btw - his sisters approved of my liking their brother. LOL! I'll holler - off to the hairdresser's. Have a great day. |
Hey Juice; Yea, analogy ...CHUCKLE... Dee Dee was shorter but she was still broad not tiny as I remember, of course she was pregnant most of that time too. She had a little longish nose but not as long as Florence or Addrienne's. Dee Dee was very attractive and had a sweet personality too. She was always nice whenever I dropped by the house or called on the phone. JB blew a good thing when he blew Dee Dee, thats the one he should have done right by. Hey All, SS - I wore an afro wig that was huge - at one time - and it was a semi scandal. I don't know though. Everyone in my school that knew me knew it was a wig - but I didn't care. And now that I think about it - I'm sure they didn't care. I got a lot of compliments on that wig. LOL! SS - Sonic is ok. The waitress'es - LOL - deliver the food and come to your car on skates. Mec and I went to the Longhorn Steak House yesterday. My God - but they got it going on. One can get anything there. Forget the Outback - we got Longhorn. LOL! Another thing that I miss from the "Chasing Rainbows" days - is chasing Lightening Bugs/June bugs - in a jar. LOL! Wasn't that what they called them? (Message edited by gogogirl on July 31, 2004) |
LOL, Soulsister All you need is to throw up your fist!!! It's funny how we laugh about styles from back in the day, but it was cool then!!! When I look at photos of my parents, it blows my mind. Even my sister and I and the clothes we wore! I remember the body top that snapped between the legs and dickies(not the shoes). I miss cuffed pants, tube tops, halter tops, Keds, Jumpsuits, Whew, BACK IN THE DAY!! |
Hey All, Hey SS. LOL - you remember the Nite Lite Bugs too! I'll say! I used to think that they were unique to B'ham. LOL! Thanks for posting your pic. Isn't She Lovely" You look great on that pic - SS. On a side note* Our scanner isn't working - once I hooked it back up here. The error message alerts one to insert something in order to get it running. I bought a three in one dealy - where a copier function is also included w/this printer. I need to call HP to find out what is wrong with it. Once I get it fixed - I'll ask my daughter to scan in my pic with the afro wig. Again SS - you were down in your jumpsuit. LOL! How about the boots we used to wear - and the midi and maxi coats? "Sunroof top - Diggin' the scene w/a Gansta' Lean - whoohoooo!" LOL! How does that song go again. Hey Go Go, Re Re, Couldn't you see Soul Sister Davis in the house Viva La SOuuuuuuuul! I used to love to catch lightning bugs too. I don't see them very often these days. I miss Keds too. How did you ladies forget about the Wetlook Jackets from 1970??? I know that y'all had some of those, my sister used to have one. I also miss my old suede Playboy shoes, my green Nehru suit with matching jade medallion & my Matador pants, all from '68-'69. I was a pretty sharp 8 year-old back then!!! Go Go, your computer is probably looking for the drivers for the scanner. If you uninstall the scanner & re-install it, it will probably work fine. I never heard of Sonic, but they STILL deliver food on SKATES??? Wow, White Castle used to do that here in N.Y. but stopped with the girl on skates back in the late '60s. Cam: I look forward to your screenplay coming to fruition. I can't wait to see the final product!!! I'd gladly buy a ticket & alert my friends to it as well!!! I don't really believe in luck, so I'll say that I'll wish you good fortune!!!! |
Good Morning All, Hey Juice. Thanks for the tip. I appreciate it. I was trying to get there in my mind - but hadn't had a need for the scanner. LOL! A little later - I'll load the startup CD again and may haps the scanner will catch up. I can't think of anything else that could be wrong. I shall try. LOL! Cam - never let go of your hopes and dreams. You probably know somewhere deep within you that your screenplay will get out there one fine day. One of my mottos is - "One has to - Conceive & Believe - way before - one can Achieve." Hey SS. If we get the scanner running again - I might post it. LOL! Yes - I noticed your boots. When we were in Germany - boots were definitley in. I remember seeing German Frauleins wearing the kind that came high up and way over the knee. LOL! This was in 1968/69. I used to love the shoes and purses from Germany also. The "Too Busy Thinkin' About My Baby" days. Take it easy. |
I ran across the below pic when I was looking for the other pic of me and my afro. I don't remember where I got it from - but I've had it a long time. It is actually a picture - although it is in black and white. Isn't it something? I wonder if someone gave it to me? Anyway - it is a wonderful pic of Diana & Marvin.
Hey Y'all, LOL! Destruction talks a good game. His wife will spank his butt if he left for parts unknown - and in more ways than one. LOL! On this pic I am getting ready to go to work. It was probably on a Saturday. I worked four hours on Sat. LOL! These pics were taken in 1972 - and my senior year of high school. I will try to find the pics we took at Malcolm X Park in DC - in June 1972. There was a concert in the park that day - celebrating Malcolm X. Lord and behold - my girlfriends and I ran into this guy/man named Richard. I'd known him since the 8th grade. We stayed in the same village - housing area at that time. In my senior year - one day - I heard that Richard had overdosed on herion. I was too thru. I was asked if I was going to the funeral - and I said that I couldn't do it. Richard and I were such good friends - and I loved him as such. We kissed once - outside of the house/quarters we lived in and where this pic was taken. But we just looked at each other after the kiss - and both shook our heads and smiled. We knew that we shouldn't go there - and that we were meant to be good friends. He was cute tho'. Less than a week later - I was walking down the hall - and bless my soul - there was Richard talking to a few folks. I stopped still - my heart skipped/tripped a beat, and I couldn't believe my eyes. I thought he had passed. I hissed his name - and he looked to me - and excused himself from the folks he was rapping to - and all w/that wonderful smile he had. Needless to say - I asked him if he knew the rumor that was going around - and he nodded. I asked him what he was doing. He said that he was alright - and that it had been close - but they shot some water in him. I said - "Whatttttt?" I fussed him out - but in a kind and caring way. I always tried to reach my friends - homies and the like back then. Richard promised me that he was cutting it back. I told him that the only way he could cut it back was to stop hanging around the people that he got high with. Well that was in May 1972. The Malcolm X Day concert was in latter June. I graduated toward the middle of June. Richard flunked out. At that park is the last time I would ever see him. He died a few days after we saw him at the park. We took pics with him. He was the sweetest, charming and kindest man that I ever knew. He just trusted too much - to include trusting himself. RIP - Richard Jones. PS. He and his sister were adopted. He talked to me about it once. He opened his heart to me - and told me that he would always feel a little disconnected from life - because he didn't know his real parents. Sad indeed. Hey All, LOL! Thanks SS. I appreciate it that you thought I was hanging - seeing you are the original - "GoGoGirl." The girls and I never had a problem. I left school by 11:30 each day to work at the Snack Bar on the base - and I wasn't in any clubs or sports. It is the fellas that had a problem with me - and at one time. LOL! They heard early on that I dated only GIs. LOL! I heard that a couple of them said around prom time that no one wanted to ask me - because I only dated GIs. And who did I think I was? LOL! Anyway - by the end of the year - I was tight with most of the school boys in my senior class - and especially the ones that use to crack on me. LOL! They got over it. Destruction - you are a mess and a half. LOL! I wasn't a waitress man. I was a Grill Girl. I flipped omlettes and hamburgers. LOL! I appreciate you all's sympathy concerning Richard. Do we truly believe that may haps the ones that have passed - at times - still tunes into what is happening in the lives of the ones they left behind and loved? If so - then Richard appreciates your kind thoughts and words too. Btw - yesterday we went to the Tuskegee Institute. My God - what a well thought out landscape designed for that school. It is huge - and the buildings still look new - the older ones that is. We went down University Road - and still hadn't seen half of the campus. It was wonderful seeing all the artifacts and information concerning Booker T. Washington - and George Washington Carver. The Tuskegee Airmen's Museum was moved to the airport in Tuskegee. We didn't venture there - but could have went to the airfield named after Mr. Chappey something or another. Pardon me. Anyway - it was a wonderful time - and my father was in his element. I bought a few books - and one I picked up by Harriet Jacobs is titled - "Incidents In The Life Of A Slave Girl." I already read forty pages. http://www.cr.nps.gov/museum/e xhibits/tuskegee/index.htm http://www.nps.gov/tuai/pphtml /newsdetail7484.html (Message edited by gogogirl on August 04, 2004) |
I miss the Old Soul train with Don Cornelius. I miss the old American Banstand with Dick Clark I miss the Archies cartoon and comics I miss Scooby doo when it was new...Saturday mornings with my brother, cartoons and a bowl of some sugar laden cereal none of that fiber or 70 percent less sugar crap! Going to my great aunties house Playing in my room for hours and hours...just really getting into it! Looking out of my 7th floor window and just daydreaming. The old Jackson Five with a "cute" and brown Michael Jackson with his big nose! (It was a cute big nose!) |
Hi Cam; No more 1970 clothes only photos of them, lol!! That car was hipper than that when I finished souping it up but was in the shop all the time with some engine problem or another, just one of my cool cars. I had a '82 280 Z with a 300 hp engine that was a metalic champagne color that reflected an iridecence pink to it. Everywhere I went someone was bound to stop and ask if I'd sell it. I loved that car. I left it behind when I moved in with Jimmy from N.J. to Ohio. The car I have now isn't as sporty but it's cool, at least it's new, lol!! Good luck with your movie and keep us posted!!!!!!! S.S. |
I miss picking up my telephone when it rings, and actually hearing someone I know (at least when I'm in USA). It seems that about half the time I pick it up after a ring it's someone trying to sell me something, and the other half it's a recording, trying to sell me something. At least there is only a trickle of that sort of thing starting here in The Netherlands. But, like everything else USA got first - it's coming. I miss having a cold winter almost every year (The villainous Global Warming). |
Greetings All, Hey SS. LOL! You are a mess. Sorry I'm just getting back. I intended to hit this thread up about the cornrolls but forgot. LOL! I might have a pic w/cornrolls - but I'm not sure. Some of y'all know how much I loved my stay in Germany. My stay in Germany was the best time in my life. I haven't lived life since as I did over there. "Every Day - There Was Something New." One year over there was like three. One of the main things I took from that time was how sweet every day was. We used to sort of scoot across the floor back then. LOL! Just walking to the jukebox to play a record was fun. Of course - I've mentioned that Archie Bell was a regular GI over there back then - and we knew him. Archie seemed to be the conservative type. Why is it that some of us thought Archie was rich just because he had a hit record "Tighten Up?" Youth! LOL! When I would see Archie sitting at table w/his buddies - he always looked sort of serious. Archie would laugh and joke w/the best of them - but for the most part Archie was serious. What was up w/him? LOL! I think I've told part of the story about New Years 1969. LOL! The party for that night was busted - and then we ventured to the housing area to another party - but the host of that party put me out because I was under eighteen. Anyway - upon entering that party - I saw a guy I was in love with - perhaps. Willie and Margaret were standing together w/Charles and Mary when we entered the living room. When Willie saw me - he made headway to me. He walked to me like he was in a trance - and took my hands. He said - "Happy New Year Sweetheart" - and that's when the lady started sceaming for me to leave if I was under 18. LOL! Now Willie was w/his woman mind you - but he left her in the dust to walk to me. After the lady went on about how she allowed no one at her house that was under eighteen - is when Willie realized what he had done. He left his woman standing w/Charles and Mary to walk over to me. LOL! He told the host - "Oh let her stay - she isn't hurting anybody" - and of course - that fell on deaf ears. It's a long story but I was 15 and Willie was 24. I had his class ring on my finger supported by tape on that night. We were just friends but truly dug each other. I'll recap how I got his ring another time - but needless to say - Willie TRIED to view me as just a freind because I was so much younger than he. To make a long story short - Margaret was 19 by the time Willie and I became friends. Charles was one of my ex-boyfriends. Willie and them left the party after the lady put me out. He told me that they were on their way to Ramstein AFB to ring in the new year. LOL! My point is - although the age difference was huge between Willie and I - we dug each other alot - and he might have even been my first true love. I'm not sure I loved him because - I intentionally schooled myself and my emotions concerning him. I knew I was too young. I couldn't hang - and he had Margaret - yet - we were there as it pertains to "Feelings." A couple of months after he had left Germany - I was told by one of his buddies that I had had Willie's nose wide open. (Meaning he dug me a lot) LOL! The guy that told me that also told me that I was wrong in how I treated Willie. I was like - "What!!!???" Anyway - I just wanted to mention the first man that I think I could have - and did love = Willie Woodberry. He was fine as wine - and dark skinned. I used to tell him - "The darker the Berry." He would say - "What do you want me to do now - blush?" LOL! "Those were the days my friend" |
All, My bad. I turned 16 when Willie and I became close. He turned 24 a few days after my birthday. we were both the same sign - and years later - and once I dabbled in astrology a tidbit is when I realized we were the same sign. I was like - "What!!!???" I've never dated a man the same sign as me. Are you kidding? LOL! |
Hey GoGo; That was fun hearing about your first love! Beautiful memories. I want to see your cornrows girl. Vonnie will post her fro!! Speaking of Vonnie, she just called from the 70's disco era show T.J. Lubinski is taping for PBS. Her girlfriend, Juice, Bobby & She are having a blast. She put Janice Marie Johnson of "Honey Cone" on the phone with me because she's a very huge fan of Jimmy's, she saw him at the Water Stage when we were in L.A. and bought up all his CDs, lol!!! She attends all of his shows when in same town. I invited her to come backstage next time. Speaking of Juice, he wanted me to post some recent shots of myself with my 'spikey cut', so I'll do that and he can see them when he gets back. GoGo, wish you lived closer, what fun we could stir up!LOL!! S.S. |
Great Morning All, Hey SS. Great pics of you and Mr. Scott. They really are touching indeed. Yes girl - those were the days. I will start finishing the book I'm writing about my stay in Germany by the end of the year. I have about seventy pages to put down - and I already have the outline and know how it ends. LOL! Btw SS - have you read my children's book as of yet - or at least a story or two? I would love to know what you thought. Back in May - I gave a book to Mr. Cosby's brother-in-law and asked him to give it to Mr. Cosby. In a few - I am going to call him and ask him if he indeed did give the book to Bill Cosby. LOL! I will contact the attorneys of Eskridge & Eskridge before too long in order for them to get my children's book illustrated - and then after it comes back out - I will finish my military book. What else do I have to do? What other goals do I have going for myself but to try and do the above two things? LOL! Nothing to it but to do it. Plus I can surely afford to do it now. Praise God. The dress I was wearing in the above pic was a German number - and so were the shoes. The stockings were from the US. LOL! I was still wearing some of the clothes I got and wore in Germany even after I graduated from high school. I remember the purse I was carrying then too. It was a German number. I think I'll look on the Net for a German website that sells purses and shoes. I wonder if they could improve on their workmanship of over thirty years ago. LOL! Take it nice and easy. |
Hi GoGo; Thanks! To be perfectly honest there was a point when I was sure Jimmy & I found the right place to move to in L.A. It was a town house to rent, so I packed up most of my personal stuff in about 30 big storage boxes including your beautiful book. I just started to get into a little of it when I got side-tracked by other pressing stuff but what I saw I loved including the illustrations which were beautiful especially the cover. To make a long story short Jimmy changed his mind on the town house cause he doesn't want to rent, only buy.! (Sigh) It would been better to rent and take our time looking for a house as L.A. is so expensive. Now I'm sorry I packed everything up as I can't access certain things I'd like too. I'm just gonna leave it that way for now since we are both determined to move away from Cleveland's harsh winters. Keep up the good work GoGo, your an excellent story teller! You are an amazing lady in many ways!! S.S. |
Why is it that some folks aren't shy and/or afraid about getting up on a stage and singing/performing. LOL! Anyway - Archie handled his every time. Folks came from all over to see Archie Bell.
