As I press forward with the film project, I am seeking photos of Detroit area landmarks circa 1972.

(Green) Tiger Stadium and the Donovan Building (Motown HQ on Woodward) are among a couple I have not been able to locate.

Am especially in need of Motown HQ during its days of operation. Color photos are needed the most, although I could colorize any B&W shots. I need as many different camera angles of the building and whatever was next door.

Any info I how I can locate these shots is greatly appreciated.

Cam...are you local to the Detroit area? If so, the Burton Historical Collection at the main library is your best bet by far. If you aren't local, you might try posting your request on the Discuss Detroit website, if you haven't already done so. I'm sure somebody over there can help you out.

Hi.

Gary: Good suggestion on the Burton Collection. I live in the Detroit 'burbs, so I'll check that out.

Ady: I have some shots I took recently. I am looking for pictures when the place was still in business.

When I was at the building a few months back, I wanted to break down that back door with the big chain on it. Wanted to just wander around in there.

I wonder if Motown or Berry Gordy still owns that building?

Thanks to both of you.

This site shows such things as an old Coke machine. An dusty piano. A publicity photo from a group called (I think) Sixpence.

There is a pristine looking office door the says "Rare Earth Offices"

Ralph, Millie and some of you other guys, take a look.

Just looked at a shot with boxes and boxes of Ampex tape. Anything recorded on them I wonder?

These have got to be some of the most unbelievable pic I have EVER seen!!

It kind of has an eerie "Twilight Zone " feel, if you will.

If walls could talk, huh??

Cam, go here and you can browse by decade:

http://dlxs.lib.wayne.edu/v/vm c/decade.html

This is the Detroit News Photo collection in the Reuther archives at Wayne State. The New gave them all their old photos a couple of years ago.

Warning: it's on what has to be the world's slowest server...

Now you got me started and I took a peek at the Reuther/News 70's section... How about this Florence Ballard shot... Copied here only because their set up doesn't create links.

Lowell:

Your Tiger Stadium shots are great works of a decaying Field of Dreams.

Someday (I'm sad to say) the wrecking ball will make Tiger Stadium "long gone."

My wife and I drove by the stadium as well as the Donovan Building today.

We were in the city just so I could go to Hitsville to buy a Motown cap and coffee mug.

Hitsville was jumping with a lot of visitors (The National Urban League has a convention in Detroit) which was good to see.

I was hoping I could meet Mrs. Edwards (she had the day off, darn it). I did meet a super nice gentleman working in the gift shop. Like a fool, I failed to get his name, but a tip of the ol' Motown cap to him (he gave me contact info on filming inside of Hitsville.

Yeah, if those walls could talk.

Did you click on all 100 pics?

Amazing stuff.
