Greetings All, I have been wondering about this question. Check out this article on the bash P. Diddy hosted. I'll tell you! For instance - back in the day - post 1970 and up until 1980 - there was a sub culture of folks in the entertainment field. For Motown alumnis back then - they probably used to hang w/their peers from within their own inner circle. We know they were sooooooo busy performing - so they weren't always ready - able - willing and financially able to make alot of the events like some folks in the business seem prepared to do today. My point is - what is up with the artists of today as it pertains to the entertainment culture that is out there - that they are, and/or think that they are a part of? Is the culture combined from different creative and artistic places - or is it the Music related aspect of it that rules the culture? Who is who in this culture? Btw - Aretha was in the Hamptons with the below crowd. Is it that some within the industry feel that it is advantageous to populate and be a part of the present day - 2004 - Entertainment Culture? I heard on TV - that the Hamptons is the place to be this summer - and many folks are shunning LA for it and other interesting and hip places of happenings. What actually is different from the back in the day'S Entertainment culture - when the greats were in their stride - and between 1955 - 1985, and the one that is here today. And of course - as it relates to the bash being reported on in the article? http://www.nypost.com/news/reg ionalnews/26831.htm BACK IN THE - "LOVE THE LIFE YOU LIVE & IT'S YOUR THING" (KINDA DAYS) (Message edited by gogogirl on July 06, 2004) (Message edited by gogogirl on July 06, 2004) |

Hey Go Go! I saw the pictures with L.L. & Aretha as well. You know how it is, it's the happening place to be. The All White dress & movers & shakers. It's all good to me. However, the folks of the Hamptons do not exactly share my enthusiasm. They're just not happy with the loud music & SUVs running through their "Hood" as it were, I only hope that all of that talent & money will pool their resources & come up with a venture that will benefit some of those who are in need. Perhaps a music conglomeration of their own? Now that would be great! |

We're living in the " how ya like me now" generation. The value system is so screwed up. They are only living for the here and now, with no concern for the future. It seems to me that anything goes , just as long as it cost a great deal of money, and not for any other reason. For instance, imo Cristal champagne is awful...but it costs a lot. All the "bling" is awful..but it costs a lot. They probably know nothing about the technical qualities of all of those over priced "whips', other than they cost a lot. There is a well known story about a certain early sixties Motown artist who had just bought himself a new Cadillac, while on the verge of being threatened to lose his home. He had the option to keep his home and bag the car. He chose to keep the car. Having said that,Im no prophet of fortune teller, but I forsee a lot of similar circumstances in the very near future in this very short lived world of hip hop where a record thats a month old is considered passe. Catch my drift folks?? |

Now see, that's why I hate reading about a peanut butter head spending his $$$$ foolishly. I guess that's why the saying goes~ "A Fool and his $$$ will soon part" Some folks don't know how to handle Fortune, let alone Fame...they get what they want first, and think about what they need, when the need arises...and by that time, it's too late. I'm not speaking of Everybody, but there are some folks with very smooth brains, short thoughts, and think only as far as they can see...and that's very dangerous when intelligence is necessary. A Malfunctioned Mind is a terrible thing, when there's a heartbeat involved, somehow that area between the eyes and the forehead will be put in motion...and only god knows what the outcome may be. |

Here is another sad but true music story. A Philly writer who I helped mentor in the early days of his career and who became part of a successful writing partnership who wrote a lot of big hit songs, got involved with "the wrong crowd". He was shot, thrown off a second floor fire escape(different times) as well as involved in heavy drug use, and a plethora of other things. Around 7 or eight years ago a MAJOR star remade one of his songs and it became a smash. When his first dribbles of royalty money came in, he received a check for over $45,000 which was his one third share of the song. TWO DAYS later, he asked me to loan him a twenty!!! |

I didnt want to be that hard on the guy. BTW..He seems to be ok now. He's a good person who got hung up with the wrong crowd. He's living "down south" now and in a better environment. |

Wel, I hope he learned a lesson, and be good from then on. It's the enviroment and the decisions we make in life that determines how we survive. |
