Hello All: I was wondering how many people where going to make the trip into Detroit on the weekend of july 16th-18th? I know that Sis D has posted some fun things to do, Millie had a post up, Spyder is playing, there are summer festivals and other activities during that time. I know that the SD45CC will be having their get together and I believe that David & Lowell are going to do a get together also. It would be fun to meet and greet over a couple of days, post pics and see if we could set up a wireless feed to let the members who cannot make it share in the gathering. So if you are going to come and say hello, please post it. |

I move this here from the main forum as it is about interpersonal issues. I will take a little whle to get used to the new forums, so if you can't find a thread, it could be that it was moved to the appropriate forum... And, oh yes, I will be there. |

Hi Brian. Wish we were still in Detroit, bit 2 far for a night. As for customs when i 1st arrived i was quizzed by customs for 10 mins, they couldn't understand why we were on vacation in D-Town,they thought we were crazy til we mentioned Motown and 60's soul music. Will post some pic's of our trip soon as we are sorted. Bye for now and Thanks Brian and everyone else for making our trip such a "RESOUNDING SUCCESS" they seem familar lirics. Ady,Mag's. |

Ady - If Customs seemed surprised that you were vacationing in Detroit, that shows that he doesn't know anything about Detroit. If he had the notion to think you were crazy, then he needs to be fired because his mind has strayed away from his main purpose. Actually, when asking a traveler why they are going to a certain country or city, is a standard question for Customs "Why are you going to Canada....Why are you going to Mexico....Why are you going to Detroit....." When I went to London England, Customs asked me why was I going to London. When I return, they ask me why had I gone, what did I do, and how long was I there. Thousands upon thousands of people from all over the world, vacation in Detroit. |

Sis is right, It's a standard question U.S. Customs asks visitors, "Why are you visiting (blank)?" It's not necessarily a dis. |

Sorry to disappoint but some of the rhetoric myself and Harry get from Customs is not printable here. I just laugh at them. Detroit is my favorite destination. |

I went to Canada and one of the officers asked me "How much did you win." I laughed because I hadn't gone to the casino. She said with a really strict voice and expression "I'm serious." Actually, I felt it was none of her business if I had won something. It was irrelevant to anything. She should have asked me if I had at least $10,000 on my person or in the car. If those customs give you bad and negative talk about Detroit, you should report them. That is not their place to do that. Get their names and their badge numbers. If you are afraid to report them, give the information to me. I know the higher authorities. |

Agreed, Sis. If you're coming into Detroit, you're talking to U.S. Customs at the airport, who would of necessity live in Metro Detroit. Sounds kind of odd that they would be trashing their own town. |

Afraid I won't be coming this year. First off, I'm not sure how much vacation time I have left--used most of it on this illness after my sick time ran out. Second, whatever time I DO have, I want to go to NYC--haven't been there yet, and there are a number of people I want to meet there. I went through the same crap when I went to Toronto. I was very straight with the guy, told him that I was going to a soul all-nighter where lots of visitors from the US and the UK would be coming. He said "Oh yeah?" in an intimidating tone and asked where it was. I told him it was at a place called the Rivoli at the corner of Queen and Spadina. After that, I was surprised he let me pass--guess it was 'cause I had a return Greyhound ticket and my birth certificate. On the way back into the States, I had to tell them where I was going and why I was going there, and what I did in Canada. I think one guy typed into the computer "Suspicious trip to Canada"--hope that won't affect me if I go to Canada again or to the UK. Best, Mark |

Chicago is my favorite soul City. I still remember the good times and the great music in Chicago. It didn't matter about the gangs, how crowded, rough, and raggity the City was at that time, I loved Chicago. Music was everywhere. That is the only City I travelled to see Mr. Wendal play with David Ruffin. We stayed at the Robert's Motel, or maybe the Robert's Two. Those days are long gone for me. |

What time is everyone meeting tomorrow night at the brewery in Ferndale.I just found this thread.I've been to a Scottish club around the corner called the White Feather club and have popped over to the brewery for some of the beer,it's really good (belonging to a home-brew club,I know what good beer is supposed to taste like and it's not the buds, millers,or coronas. We call those lawnmower beers that you drink in place of water when you cut your grass) |
