While trying to access the archives, I noticed that they were inaccessible. Is this permanent or a temporary server glitch??

Thanks,
Juice

If you choose the "Search Forum" option at the top, you can access the Archives from April, 2004, but none before then.

Lowell & David,

When will SD's Archieves will be up and reactivated, because it's so hard to search Forum.
I'm interested in SD's Archieves from 00-03. Would both you gentlemen reconsider this.

Frankly if there wasn't so much irrevelevant stuff
being posted there wouldn't be this problem with
the archives. I'll say no more.

Davie,

That is not true, there has been a problem with retrieving from the archives long before "irrelevant stuff was posted".

I am asking Lowell to forget opening up the archives.

It's a shame, but my attitude to all of this is changing fast.

We will not be able to continue without long term funding. We have 45's which Ron so generously donated and which no one wants to buy.

And you know what the people who whine most donate the least ie. nothing.

And Vonnie you know what Davie is saying. He is saying that the forum is being overloaded with crap and he is 100% correct.

And please stop using the bold format it is unneccesary.

Dear David,

I sincerely apologize for using the bold format. I did not know that we were not allowed to use this type of format. It is under the Get Fancy and that is why I have used it on occasion. I try to use it on only a few words for emphasis, and on my post I used it on only one word. Sorry again, I will refrain from using this type of format, because it probably takes up bandwith.

Vonnie

Yes it is in "Get Fancy" and is fair under normal ciscumstances.

Right now we are working under abnormal circumstances due to recent events.

This forum is the property of Lowell and myself and funded by a few donors.

I would rather the whole thing shut down rather than read to the unbelievable crap on display here.

There are lot of people on this forum who are reasonable and realistic and don't pontificate, pose, whine etc etc etc

There will be changes here including closure if necessary.

I think closing the archives would be a very sad occassion for SD. Many of us have spent alot of time and work on documenting important soul history and photographs that are an invaluable source of education for everyone.

To shut it down because of present problems would be totally unfair to all who worked hard and participated in the important history that is in the old archives.

I have sent donation in the past and will be happy to do so again, as I'm sure others would as well, to keep open, at least, all the valuable information that is in the 2003 archives.

Sincerely,
Soul Sister

Soul Sister

It will be very sad. But I am absolutely sick of the animosity shown towards me on this forum.

Some of it coming from people who have met me or
talked to me on the phone and who should know better.

Than you for the offer of another donation but if at all possible once will be enough.

However if we place the archives on a searchable cd, I will personally ensure that donors and those who contributed significantly to our forum will receive a free copy.

This was also done with the 45 as far as donors were concerned.

Dear David,

I have sent in a donation for the site, and you should be getting it soon thru PayPal. I sincerely hope that whatever is causing the problems can blow over and we go back to our love of music. As I have said many times, Soulfuldetroit is very special and precious to us all. I hope my donation will help to keep the bandwith functional.

Thank you for your donation Vonnie.

I too hope that things will blow over but our 3 year history shows that will not be easy.

I accept I need to change the way that I react to matters which I don't approve of and hope to discuss a way forward with Ralph.

Meanwhile I would ask everyone to again read Lowell's messsage and in particular our conditions which in recent weeks have not been adhered to.

I am also appalled to read elsewhere of minority bashing on this site. I have had to crack up on a number of occasions about this . Unfortunately I have not been reading many threads in recent months and have completely missed the garbage. This must not be tolerated.

I would urge anyone who sees such posts to mail me immediately. Offenders will be removed immediately.

As a matter of fact if anyone can point me to these threads I will deal with the scum immediately.

David;
I just sent in my donation and will continue to do so in the future.

Its good that people may be able to recieve a DVD of the archives but still it would be nice to keep at least 2003 archives open to the public for new members of SD and researchers to be able to access.

Thanks for the response.

Good evening Davie Gordon,

I would like to address your statement. Let me preface my words by stating that I have seen many of your posts & I find you to be a pretty fair & straight forward man. Your postings are calm & insightful & I've learned a thing or two along the way. Let me, if I may give you the other side of the irrelevant coin.

Many people have said that the top 10 lists are irrelevant & a waste of time. In some cases, that may appear to be the case. However, there are many of us here, who have not been exposed to many of the songs that others know of. I used to read Robb K talking about acetates & things as such that I never knew existed.

Some of those threads have sparked many a memory & brought to mind a artist or song that had been forgotten about. Those threads branch off into other threads that discuss even more songs & artists that people are unaware of. From some of those threads, perhaps someone has decided to purchase CDs of an artist that they discovered, only through hearing about them here. That can't be a bad thing.

As to the really "silly" threads, non-music related: On the surface, they may seem irrelevant. But upon further examination, are not as irrelevant as they appear to be. Consider this: This is a forum, as such, people gather here to discuss music. A bunch of complete strangers who were drew here through their common love of music. It's obvious that we like it, or we wouldn't come here & we wouldn't stay here.

It is only natural that as we come to know each other better, we will speak of non-musical, sometimes silly things. We feel a certain comraderie & a sense of friendship here.

Now, in a world such as this, where the entire world seems to be going mad, right before our eyes, in a world where there is so much tragedy & misery, in a world where people are literally losing their heads, we can come here & smile with each other. We can fellowship with each other. For a few moments, we can smile, laugh & get some relief from this crazy world that we liver in. That my friend, has value, it has worth. It can't be bought, sold or put in a tidy catalog, but....it does have value.

And finally, for those who say that it's not musical, I beg to differ with you.

Isn't it said that laughter is the music of the soul???? Now that's REAL Soul music!!! And you know what??? We need more of it. You see, if we can spend MORE time LAUGHING with each other, we will spend LESS time FIGHTING with each other.

And we learn something along the way...understanding & that is always of value!

What do you think???

Hi Ralph,

Thank you. I also would like to touch base on the issue of donations. As many of us have discussed this issue, I would like to address this. However, the time is not right. When things cool off a bit & the rawness heals, I would indeed like to be able to express my thoughts regarding this.

There is definitely a reason behind this & when we can all speak without rancor, perhaps my point will be understood regarding this issue. Perhaps my insight may help facilitate the necessary support. We need better communication, tolerance & understanding. I'm willing to help as there is so much good about Soulful Detroit. It would be a shame if it were not to continue forward. Understanding is the key.

Juice, although I see your point and understand your good intentions I cannot agree fully. Sometimes the off-topic chat takes more space than the on-topic subjects.

I was just looking at the number of posts made by each member in this thread, it really makes me wonder ...... some of the members obviously have a lot to say about "music related" issues.

Regarding the archive-CD, I'd like one of those even if the archives do come online. :-)

Juice, I'd be more than happy to respond fully.

I haven't had the time to reply before. Send me
your e-mail address and I'll let you know exactly what I think -
but it may take or day or so as I've a lot going on at the moment.

I could of course post my comments on the forum
- maybe I'll just do that.
