Ok, so a new plan is on the rise to start a development for economic growth in the African American communities, here in Detroit. Some folks are against it, even some african americans are against it. ...but we have Mexican Town, Greek Town, we've had a Pole (Polish)Town... At one time, Motown was called Hockey Town. Now all of a sudden African(american) Town is on the agenda, and everybody freaks out. Why is this idea so rejected by other african americans and so many other (so~called) minorities? |

I haven't heard about it. But, just reading your post has me against it. It is not an honor. Whose idea was this? Why are they trying to distinquish us within the City of Detroit as a part of Detroit. Segregation by name is for a defined, designed reason. |

First of all, I wouldn't call it segregation...I call it Progression. It's segregation, when you go across 8 Mile and get stopped for no reason and you are asked what are you doing in this part of town, it's segregation when you are not allowed to move into a certain area without getting harrased, so I call it fear & ignorance on the parts of the blacks who have no vision... was it segregation when there was a 'Black Bottom' at one time, did anyone call that segregation ? No offense here to Black, White, or any other race. It's always 'Fine & OK', when any other ethnic group have their own, but as soon as a Black person decides to make a change for the better, it's always a problem, shot down, by their own blacks. Any change for the better is a good thing. All over america, there's China town, theres' a Mexican, there's a town where most of the Jewish, Spanish, Arabs live, and I don't find anything wrong with that, I think it's a beautiful thing. I'm wondering, what other race do you think you belong to, and why is it always a problem? Willie Lynch has been dead for a very long time now. So can we come together and do some business within your own race for Gods' sake, like everyone else. It doesn't mean we have to disassociate ourselves with other races. If you are born to African decended parents, that makes you the same thing. There is no other race on this planet that will claim you as theirs. What else do we have? We comsume eveything else, and make everybody else rich, but that's OK right ???? No, I'm not a racist, but I'd love to see my own folks move on up a little higher for a change. Is anything wrong with that??????? Is there anything wrong with that????? ...and I damn sure approve this message... (Message edited by ~medusa on October 15, 2004) |

Thanks Vonnie - So far I've read the articles in the first two links. I need more information and thought on that. I need to know more about the author of the proposal. One thing I could say, the Blacks in Detroit had their town. And yes Medusa, it was ""Black Bottom" "Paradise Valley" where blacks owned businesses. But, this very City got rid of it for the so called economic growth, they bulldozed Our Town, and destroyed our businesses. So perhaps this could be reparation for destroying "Black Bottom." When the Eastside kid "Kay Everette" speaks, watch out. LOL (Message edited by sis on October 15, 2004) |

Ok, maybe now it's time to build another one...so why is there so much resistance? ...and as far as K Everette...At her age, she should be more professional, and a better example for our upcoming young folks, instead of acting the way she does when she does, and how she does. She's educated, but she should act like it. She should uphold any good that can make Detroit a better place to live (Message edited by ~medusa on October 15, 2004) |

Hi Medussa and Sis...There is a thread on the Discuss Detroit forum concerning this proposal. Lots of "spirited" discussion on the subject. |

Gary - I went over there. I forgot you have to have your armor on when visiting Discuss Detroit. LOL. Soulful Detroit is just a bunch of spoiled kids compared to the members of Discuss Detroit. They are deep. I read a few of those threads, as I do sometimes. I was drawn to the discussion about the Riots. I really enjoyed reading Lowell's statement about the reasons he started YesDetroit. Talking about deep discussions, go to Discuss Detroit. |
