Kevin - in 1966, I was hanging around the A&P market at Bulls Heads Plaza where my boyfriend at the time worked bagging groceries. We'd then go to Broadway Lunch on Brown Street and pump dimes in the juke box listening to that fabulous music we all love so much. Were you born here or did you transplant to Rochester? | ||

Linda Di: My family emigrated from Pittsburgh PA in 1965 to Leroy, NY so that my father could attend Colgate Rochester Divinity School (he earned two masters degrees from the seminary). I was born a year later at Genesee Memorial Hospital in Batavia NY. After my Dad earned his first masters degree (1969) we moved to Mulberry Street in Rochster (near Highland Park), where we all resided until Mom sold the house last year and moved to Michigan. Memories of Rochester: The Cinema Theatre Gerako's Diner (the predecessor to the Imperial Chinese Restaurant) Jay's Record Ranch in Downtown Rochester (as well as Midtown Record & Tape Center, which is now Record Theatre) WBBF, WAXC and the early years of WDKX radio The Highland Park Lilac Festival Free concerts at the Highland Park Bowl (saw Sarah Vaughan in 1979 - what a show!) Downtown Rochester at Christmastime (the monorail inside Midtown Plaza was the bomb!) Neisner's Department Store (where a pizza slice and soda combo was one dollar!) The Fantasy Shop comic book store Doing school musicals at Monroe High School Meeting Donny Hathaway at SUNY Brockport (he gave a concert in 1971 - my brother Jesse was the emcee).
