Funny you should mention that jrlo...I was in NY earlier this year, and my Family took me to a Resturaunt and mr Brother ordered Ginger Beer for me. Being from Detroit, I've never tasted or even heard of it...It was so good. I have a freidn at work, he's from one of the Islands, and he made some, but it was just a bit too sweet. Ginger Beer shouold become more popular than it is. |

Puffed Wheat Suprise. Take a bowl of puffed wheat, pour melted butter over it, salt it, and eat it like popcorn. Works with Corn Kix, but it's more expensive. |

Right now, I could go for a garbage plate. Mmmmmmm ... straight outta Rochester, NY. Diana Ross even stopped and got a few to go. It's two cheeseburgers or hamburgers or hot dogs with two of the following sides: French Fries, homefries, baked beans, mac salad, or potato salad. The meat is put on top of the two sides and the entire plate is covered in hot sauce. The kind of hot sauce that's almost like chili without the beans. It's made out of ground beef and is hot and greasy. Now, I don't eat a lot of meat, and actually very little ground beef. But every now and then, I get a craving for a garbage plate -- although I can't remember the last time I indulged. They are also called "heart attack on a plate." If not that, then an Abbott's custard down on the lake. Best ice cream in the world. Are you wit me, KevGo???? (Instead, I'll munch a few carrot sticks. 25 pounds and counting ... ) |

Mmmmm, all this sounds REAL good :-)) For my sins, I have put myself on a self imposed diet. Cerial for breakfast, a light salad for lunch and any kind of fish dish for dinner. Into my 5th week and the weight is falling off me, however, I'm just dying for a big fat juicy burger covered with melting cheese. I refuse to give in though. Why is it, that all the stuff we love is absolutely no good for us whatsoever. :-((( No matter how much I try, I just can't get excited about a salad, however you decide to dress it. No cheese, no bacon, no red meat, no fries, no ice cream, no shakes, no fatty food, no beer, what...............no beer, yes, no beer. :-(((((((((((((((((((((( I'm a lot thinner, but am I happy ?. Hell no. :-) |

Sushi! Man I used to think this stuff was gross until I finally got my own personal mix of wasabi, ginger, and soy to my liking. Wish it wasn't so damn expensive. I can eat 20 bucks worth easy and still be hungry. My secret, and this may not work for you, is I dont mix any of the three ingrediants together. I spread some wasabi on there, lay on a thin sheet of ginger, dip the whole deal in the soy sauce, then down the hatch. YUM YUM! The last time my family got together for a meal, I started singing the praises of sushi and my Dad actually got upset, like sushi was some Nipponese plot. He's 79, served in the Navy in WWII and I think he's having some holdover memories from his Pacific Theater experience. It was pretty funny, though. Sushi, an acquired taste no doubt, but do not be afraid, the contour of your eyes will not alter by eating copious amounts, LOL. |

Linda, It was reported in the news recently that a take away shop somewhere in the midlands ( in the UK )have something new on the menu. It's a giant sausage, wrapped around it are slices of donner kebab meat, then deep fried in batter, served with fries. Jeez. Heart attack on a plate is right. The local council has called the shop irresponsible, because the callorie count on one of these things shoots through the roof. Apparantly, these things are flying out the door though. To each his own of course, but it begs the question, why would anyone willingly want to eat this rubbish ?. You would think people would have more respect for their bodies, wouldn't you ?. We don't respect our bodies though do we. Men are supposed to have no more than 90 grams of fat per day, for women it's 70. That's a very hard figure to try and stick to, let alone maintain. Think I'll have a nice Chicken & Pesto Pasta Salad, and avoid the dessert. ( wink ) (Message edited by felstead2001 on October 08, 2004) |

Don't be put off by their appearance Dinelle, if that's what it is. Sardines, Salmon and Mackerel are three types of fish that are high in Omega 3 oils. These oils are essential for your bones and more importantly your joints. It keeps them well lubricated, regardless of your age. Some oils are bad for you, Omega 3 oils found in these fish are not. It is recommended by doctors that you have two of these a week. You can have salmon and dill in a fresh pasta dish with a white wine cream sauce. Sardines can be mashed up with a small amount of tabasco and served warm on toasted bread. Mackerel is best grilled and served with a side salad. Sushi is japanese for raw fish, and is pleasant to taste, but quite pricey, usually served with boiled white rice. Brown rice is a healthier option and better for you as it contains less starch. |

Dinelle: In The Netherlands sardines are a delicacy, we swallow 'em whole! Never mind! I meant herring! Actually, I could eat a barrel of ice cream. When I was a young kid they said I was alergic to milk. So, I couldn't eat or drink ANYTHING with any milk products. At parties, ALL the other kids got ice cream, and I got some kind of sherbet made only with water. It was flavoured ice. I never ate cheese. The only bread I could eat was a special rye bread made with water. I had to put fruit juice in my cereal. I felt deprived. When i was 9 years old my uncle told me to try milk again. No problem! So I went crazy eating cheese and ice cream all the time. I used to sit down and eat half-gallon and gallon tubs at one sitting. Back in Winnipeg,my parents had a special big meat freezer in the garage, filled with gallons of ice cream for me (that was before Canada changed to the metric system). I probably ate enough animal fat to harden my arteries 10 times over! I don't eat it any more (for the past 25 years)because I'm almost 60 and watch my cholesterol. But I wouldn't bother to eat ice cream unless there were at least a half gallon! (Message edited by Robb_K on October 12, 2004) |

Dinelle, -I'm not talking about those tiny sardines they put in those cans in USA. These are about 15-20 CM long(decent size fish)! Naturally! Those big sardines are not sardines, but herring! Excuse my dimentia! (Message edited by Robb_K on October 12, 2004) |

Oops! There's another attack of the middle-aged disease. Of course, the fish I THOUGHT I was talking about is HERRING-NOT sardines!!!! THAT'S why they're bigger than those little sardines (in USA)!!! Of course, sardines are also small in Europe. Anyone can swallow THEM whole! |

Some chargrilled meditteranean king prawns with a squeeze of lemon and fresh corriander, served on a bed of rocket and spaghetti infused with italian herbs. Now you're talking, about 20 mins to prepare and so much healthier than a McDonalds ( or any other burger, come to think of it ) :-))) |

Dinelle: Maybe you're a Moslem or a Jew (or watching your cholesteral). It's not exactly the healthiest food you can find! What we need is a combination SoulFood/HealthFood Restaurant. What do you think of tofu chittlin's fried in olive oil, served with collard greens with tofu fatback? Of course, the tofu is coloured to look like the chittlin's and fatback with only natural food colouring! |
