Last week I attended a rock & roll show here on Long Island. The featured artists were Kenny Vance & the Planatones, Gene Chandler, the Limelites, Del Vikings, and others. On the bill was a group billed as the Marvelettes! It was more than obvious that this was a totally bogus group, as these galz looked like they may not even have been born when "their" music was recorded!! They spoke that they were doing Motown, but rather were "hockey" and "loungy" and not much singing was actually done! But mainly, how do they get away with using the name Marvelettes, and getting paid to do this too!!

Thank you.

In harmony,

Nikki

Nikki,
This is a real sad story that's come up on this forum a few times. A guy named Larry Marshak, who's behind a few other non-original groups using names like "Coasters" etc., fields a group he calls the Marvelettes. To add insult to injury, these women have been booked for many gigs in the Marvelettes' own hometown, here in Detroit -- they were even booked for the 2002 Woodward Dream Cruise.

When I asked a Dream Cruise publicist if she realized that there wasn't one original Marvelette in this group, she said "But the city of Ferndale people said they were real!"

Oh, OK ...? Like they'd know. There are people who want to help Gladys Horton get the name back; let's hope they prevail.

The Motown Alumni Association send out an
interesting post about the fake Marvelettes in
the last day or so.

Apparently they played in LA recently and a
sizeable part of the audience sat through their
set and THEN demanded their money back.

That's the way to deal wioth these bogus acts
- hit the promoters for refunds when you feel
you've been cheated and lied to - it'll soon
get back to the people behind these bogus acts
when they can't find bookings for their acts
- even better if they get stung for expenses and then discover they've made a loss. That'll soon
stop them.

Good idea, Davie -- although I'd also suggest hooting the minute they hit the stage ...

IT'S MEMOREX, ha,ha
unfornatley(SP) that is a bogus girl group, which their our about 3 or more of them. Gladys Horton
has been trying to use our name ,but Larry Marchek won't let her work, unless she works with one of the bogus groups.
It's a good idea to do as was suggested, to ask for your money back, because you can hurt someone in their pocket book where it hurts the most. with your support we can hurt them.

The Original Marvelettes
Sue,
Hooting is real good also.

Hi Katherine,

Billy Wilson of the Motown Alumni Association wants to get involved in stopping the fake Marvelettes, he claims it's a pretty simple matter legally, it just takes getting a lawyer to take it on pro bono. And if there ever was a deserving case ...the Rhythm & Blues Foundation should lend a hand too.

And the other Motown acts should be encouraged not to perform with these fakes.

Cyber-hug to you ...
