Do any of our esteemed colleagues from Hitsville @ 2648 WGB recall an engineer with the initials "H.T."? He is noted as the recording engineer for the Temptations' "My Girl," among others.

Harold Taylor, a wonderful engineer. I understand he lives in LA now.

I nominate Bob for official Motown Studio Historian. Some of the things he knows never fails to amaze me.

You can even hear the sqeaky kick drum if you listen with headphones as well as the semi distorted or "fuzzy" sound of Jamerson's bass!!
I would love to approximate the sound of the snakepit if only there were a way.

Hi Bob Olhsson,

You posted enthusiastically about the diversity of the Nashville scene now; I wonder if I could possibly impose upon you to introduce you to a singer/writer who I think has the precision to sing/arrange background vocals? She's been patiently making R&B demos with borderline folks around New York and Boston, but as she's based in Nashville, just out of school there, I wish I could direct her to some people who can help her develop her craft, in demos/commercials, whatever.

Thanks for your attention,

Brian Chin NYC

The last time I saw Harold Taylor was sometime around 1985-87. He was living out in the sticks down around Riverside, CA. He was happily married to a beautiful lady. They were both very deeply devoted to the church, and very modest in their manner.

I can't remember much about what happened other then the fact that he came up to my present home and we spent some time discussing various things. His wife was with him, and I was very impressed by their attitude.

I seem to remember that he was working in some sort of civil service job, like the post office, and that he had some kind of very modest idea for trying to get something going with music. That's about all I can remember.

Harold was a lot like Robert Gordy (Bob Kayly: "Everyone Was There") in that he was a gentle, layed back, sort of fellow who marched to the beat of the turtle, as opposed to the rabbit.

I have always marched to the beat of Bugs Bunny, and it is a great honor to work with him every day, at the present time, here at Warner Bros. Animation.

Still, I admire a religious person like Harold, who is modest in his manner. This is as it should be: If one can not prove what they believe, they have no business shoving it down other peoples throats!
