Mary Wilson mentions in her book Dreamgirl the first Primettes recording session in the Flick and Contour studio's, in Forrest Street. The record was to be released on Lupine. She also mentions Eddie Floyd and Wilson Pickett recording there.
Is there anyone here who could tell us a little more about this studio/label. Maybe some of you have worked there once?

I don't know if it's the same studio or not,but Bristol Bryant had a small studio on the corner of Forest & Woodward, where the Falcons, etc. used to record all the time. I shared an office with Sax Kari at the time & we often worked together on recording projects. That's also where I recorded Jamie Coe & the Gigolos for the first time. It was sort of a basement studio.....Small,but adequate. Let me know what questions you have & I'll try to answer them.

I'm pretty sure that it's the same studio Mary Wilson is talking about in her book. She describes how the four of them took the bus on Woodward going there. Do you remember the Primettes recording there (surely a historic event;)? For which record companies did the studio record? And what was the biggest hit recorded there? Would love to hear your memories!

Off the top....Contour, Flick and Bumble Bee all carried the address 65 East Forrest.

I couldn't find the building. Probably long gone.

Its been a long time, but since Bob West was always in our building,he probably shared our space too. It was right behind the parking lot in back of that beautiful church on Forest & Woodward. I think the building was torn down & rebuilt. The studio was across the side street from the church (across from the offices, which also housed our rehearsal studio). There were about six steps that went down from the sidewalk facing Woodward, with a little railing.

soulkikker,
Relic Records issued a few LPs of Lupine material...including the Primettes 45 "Tears Of Sorrow" plus some other previously unreleased tracks of theirs.
Robert West was one of the pioneers of Detroit R'n'B and The Falcons "You're So Fine" is one of the 1st "soul" recordings... on Flick. Wilson Pickett, Eddie Floyd, Mack Rice and others were with him.
He was shot in the face by Herman Grifin and was obviously never the same after that.
