Television Premiere of our New Trailer
On Thursday, September 5th, 2002, Entertainment Tonight (CBS TV, 7:00pm PST/EST) will feature the exclusive premiere of the theatrical trailer for Standing in the Shadows of Motown. This is a new trailer, not the one that is on this website, and contains new scenes and music.

This is great news Bob! Just wish I could see it. I do have contacts though, ha ha! Next year is going to be Motown year, here in the UK, especially if I get my way. If I play my cards right everybody will be dancing in the street from John O' Groats to Lands End! That Motown Sound will live on forever and I'll be there, hopefully to enjoy it once again. Keep us posted.

Cheers

Wouldn't it be great if the rest of the Funk Brothers could join Jamerson into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame. It would be perfect for the release of the movie.

Too bad, it apparently got preempted by American Idol coverage. How ironic it would have been along side that!

This is probably too late for most of you, but I just got e-mail from the SITSOM web site saying the new trailer will be shown tonight (Friday Sept. 6). It's now almost 9PM here on the West Coast, fortunately one of the local stations reruns ET at 10 so I hope to see it.

Folks, please accept my apologies for the Entertainment Tonight thing. I was as surprised as you when it didn't show on Thursday night, and I got the news about the Friday re-schedule too late to do much good.

They ended up only showing a brief clip from the trailer, and clips from the party -- perhaps 20 seconds in all. Good publicity for us, but I was hoping for more.

The new trailer should be up on our website soon, probably after the Toronto Film Festival gets out next week.

Good things are happening, and I will share the news as soon as I am legally allowed to! Thanks for hanging in there.

Sincerely,
Paul Elliott

Paul

Is the film elegible for Oscar or did it get its official release last year?

TD,

We have indeed qualified for the Oscar. Last month, we held a one-week screening in LA that was so low-key even I didn't know about it. With that screening, we cleared the first hurdle...

I'm sorry you posted that, because now I have to make fun of it.

Joe Messina was NOT in Toronto for the film festival -- that's just one of the mistakes in that story.

A motown year, that sounds just Ace, having lived thro the 1960s and played a small part in the plugging of the old TMG releases, being a DJ in the early days of Disco & Clubs I look forward to its revival. Keep me posted

Trust me, if I worked with that guy, he'd get at least half his Motown facts straight.

In his Cellarful of Motown story he had the Marvelettes doing "Ain't No Place Like Motown."

But it's journalism 101 to at least get straight who's in the room when you're reporting a story, but I guess he was too busy complaining about me and the stories I've done.

I teased Joe (Messina) today about time traveling up to Toronto.

And some parts of some stories you just have to look over. Like the quote from Joe Hunter. I imagine Joe was joking if he made that last statement. Cause Joe makes lots of jokes. But I was wondering why it was significant to the reporter. Was there nothing else more interesting to him to report? Just a thought.
Anyway, I got your drift.

Apparently the Joe Hunter quote was a mistake too (sigh).

I suppose the periods and "ands" were correct ... maybe.

Joan Osborn - So there was a release today of a new cd by Joan. "How Sweet It Is". Has anyone heard it?

Re: Joan Osborne -

Joan has just released a new CD, and it has some Motown songs on it. I haven't heard it, and while I have every reason to believe that it will be good, this is not associated with Standing in the Shadows of Motown, and does not feature the Funk Brothers. (I recall that Bob Babbitt did some work for Joan recently, I'll have to ask him if he is on the CD)

Here's address of a link (readable with Adobe Reader)which explains her album, which is a set of covers, not all of them Motown. I'm sure she sings the fire out of all of them, as the great Owen Bradley usta say.
