Haven't read this yet, but, I had no idea of Mr. Olhsson's background. An engineer (englishman) in LA sent it to me:

Larry,
I've known Bob for more years than I care to admit these days. Suffice it to say he's been around the block a few times and knows his way around a recording studio.

Ralph,
I read you've been 'round the block as well.
To find you folks alive and well and getting your due is just fantastic. You all made history and are blessed for your talents (and timing). If you ever need a bassist in LA call me!
With deeeep respect,
Larry

Thanks for the kind words and I just might take you up on your offer someday.

Ralph,
I've asked my father, but, it's funny, my grandfather on the other side of the family was friends with an Al Sherman whose striking blonde wife was Marie. But I don't think Al owned a studio. *These* Shermans were friends of my gparents Jack and Judy Reznik. Just called my mother, she said Al Sherman's main business was well....gambling. Let me know.

Ralph,
Some other Detroiters (all from the 50's and 60's) who were family friends:
Tommy Schlesinger, Promoter, Mercury
Mario Capazoli, played with Bess Vonnier (blind singer) who had a Jazz group.
Art Martegan. Frank Rossolino. Bill Hammond.

Larry,
Bingo on Al Sherman. He was only a silent partner in the Studio. He was a proffesional gambler. His picture with wife Marie is located on the Tera Shirma webisode. Also, I knew Tommy Schlesinger very well.

Ralph,
Al and my Grandfather Jack were tight gambling buddies. Lefty Jack they called him. He was a butcher. Had a gourmet shop at North Park Towers. Supplied meat to Chuck Joseph and more. The Sherman's were best friends of my gparents Jack and Judy. Hope you had a good relationship with Al. I'll let my mother know about the photo.
How very cool Ralph. Nice to meet you. Al and Jack are shootin' craps somewhere smilin' down I hope!

My Mother wants to know who you're married to Phyllis or Joy? Or someone else?
She knew all Marie's nieces. Saw the picture.
That's Marie. I was her favorite of the Judy's grandkids. I remember her so well. Cocktail parties and Frankie Gel teaching everyone the Cha-Cha!

Larry,
Small world huh? I was married to Phyllis. She is the mother of my two wonderful kids.
Joy is Phyllis' sister who is stll married to Marvin. I remember hearing about the Rezniks but I don't know if I ever met them. Al Sherman was one of the shrewdest men I ever met and we had a wonderul relationship.I'm sure the crap game is wild these days.

Ralph,
Small world is right. How funny. I'll have my mother get some Sherman pics out and I'll get copies made. She lives in Phx btw, but, is coming to LA in a couple weeks, so, we'll pick some shots out. She's got tons.

For a time, I lived on Plumbrooke with Jack/Judy, 3 doors down were the Mulligans. Cary was my age. Don't know what happened to Cary or Mark.

Great that good things (your kids) came from your marriage. Not everyone can say that.

Al and Marie.... man-O-man Ralph...

I was just about to ask, "what's a professional gambler?" till I thought about it. All of us who are or have been self-employed, freelance or owned our own business are "professional gamblers" of a kind. Maybe it's not such a strange occupation after all :o)

Larry,
I remember when Marvin and Joy bought the home on Plumbrooke for the then unheard of price of $40,000.00. Today, Carey is a dealer in collectibles. In fact at my daughter's wedding in '95 he told me some of my old Sunliner records were worth $500.00.
I'm not sure what Mark is up to today. He showed great promise as an artist when he was young. My son was just here visiting last month and he told me about Mark but damned if I can remember what.
I would love to see the pics your mom has. The one on the TS story is the only pic I have of Al and Marie. They were quite a pair.

Ralph,
Tell Cary I said Hi. This is just too much.
I saw Marie on Plumbrooke alot as a young kid. She was my 2nd grandmother. Those homes were nice. With Duns Scotus and the grounds as a backdrop. Beautiful. I drove by last year when I visited. We have to get together Ralph.
Cell 310-308-8497. My Mother Marcia is coming in for a few days Sept. 20th. You in LA? Can you spare a few?

Richie,
You're right, Life is a gamble, but, in the case of Al Sherman and Jack Reznik an occupation. My grandfather supported his family running crap games at various stag parties in the Midwest. Once, 3 dice came out of his hand by accident. He lived, but, he paid. The family wasn't proud of his *business*. He went strait, but, until his death he still played poker in Phx (where he KNEW the dealer) and had a *silent* partner at the same table. It was all about buildin' up the odds.
Course, that's cheatin. It all balances out.
He didn't have the greatest Kharma. Tuff cookie he was.

Hi Larry - I guess you could count me out of that "business". I can't even play Snap!

David,
I love that pic of Al and Marie. Even though it is the only one I have, it truly captures them.
Larry,
Al Sherman was not ashamed of what he did for a living. He told me once he liked what he did and wished he was a young man again so he could start over. He was a riot and so much fun to be around. One day I had two reserved seat tickets to Tiger Stadium and I called Al to invite him to a baseball game. He had me meet him at the stadium. When we met he asked for the tickets. He took those two tickets and started doing a little street hustling and before I knew it we had box seats. He was amazing.
I'm in Monterey Larry. I'd like to talk to you sometime. I'm anxious to see what your mom has.

Ralph,
Great story. They were both old school hustlers Jack and Al. Yeah I remember Briggs Stadium and Lafayette Coney Island where my Dad took us (and we'd sneak to the basement to see the cats chasing rats). Was great growin up in D.

By the way, I got the Funks to sign one of my basses last nite. Great great time. W/o a ticket I wore a suite, blue glasses, slicked hair, Bass in hand and NOone got in my way. Some were saying "have a good show man". Memorable night goin backstage and meeting the guys. Also met Mickey Stevenson.

Sinbad MC'd, Mary Wells, Rick James, Teena Marie, Gerald Levert sang.

Also, just about my entire family in D and Phx NOW KNOW of Ralph Terrana and Al Sherman. There have to be even more connections. For instance a good friend of my Uncle is/was Leo Cheslak who knows Harry Balk very well.

You should send me your mail address so I can get the Sherman pix to you. I'm at lrott@corpinfo.com

Yours,
Larry
