I was listening to my latest Kent Records cd acquisition last night, The Arock/Serock - Al Sears story.

Again, I was awestruck at the job Ady Croasdell has done in terms of quality (sound and booklet presentation).

I have been buying the stuff which Ady has been putting together on vinyl and silver disc for fifteen years now and would like to say that he has given me an invaluable insight to the world of rare soul music.

Ady please take a bow!

My only criticism of the Cellarful CD was indeed it's booklet.

It would be fantastic if Universal could take a look at Ady's product and follow suit.

I would like to concur with you on what a wonderful job Ady and the Kent team do. I have been buying Kent compilations since the first vinyl one in 1983. I consider the Dave Godin Deep soul treasures vol 1 the finest compilation of all time, CD or vinyl, and whilst the other two volumes in this series are good, volume 1 stands out as perfection that I think would be impossible to better. I look forward to every new Kent compilation with anticipation, and hope that a Deep soul treasures volume 4 is not far away.
Also now that the walking encyclopedia of musical knowledge, Tony Rounce is with them, things must go from strength to strength.
A SUGGESTION TO KENT
I believe that Trevor Churchill is now with you. What about issuing the three volumes of the wonderful Bells cellar of soul on one double CD. Now that would be something.

Nice idea - very nice idea in fact.... But I can't help wondering if some of Bell's original licensing deals might have long-since expired. The Goldwax material instantly springs to mind. Even if that's true, perhaps they could be "reconstructed" in conjunction with the current owners...?

I'd like to concur with everything that has been said about Kent. Their CDs are fantastic!

That being said, I'm in the mood for relistening to King Northern Soul--what a disc!!

Best,

Mark

Regarding the Cellarful CD, I feel the booklet cover and the tray card or whatever you call it should have been more colorful.

I am no artist, but, I am happy with what I bought, graphics and most importantly the music. I could not wish for anything better all these years after they were recorded. I just wish there was more video/film footage of these studio sessions.

Personally, considering the wealth of superb music contained on the "Cellarful" discs, I'd have been quite satisfied if it had been marketed in just a brown paper bag!

On reflection, I shouldn't have compared the packaging to Kent cd's.

I should have compared it to Marvin & Tammi's "The Complete Duets".

Universal did the perfect job on that one.

David, I must admit the writing was quite small and in places I did struggle.

Definitely my last comment because I'm trying to be constructive. The cd deserves nothing less.

If we had larger print, a white background and photographs which are are big enough to enjoy then I'd be over the moon (as I was with the music).

The cd booklet is a vital part of the package these days...I'm pleased to say.

I am in no way putting Ady down in any way,I agree that he has put some nice compilations together. But,with hand on heart,it shouldnt be too difficult considering the various unreleased archive material and all other nice touches that he is Lucky to have at his disposal. Now dont take this as criticism,at the end of the day he still has to assemble the finished article, and I can imagine hours of pondering on the final selections etc.So keep up the good work Ady,and I thank you for finding Ben E. Kings masterful Cant break the news.MEL.

Does anyone have the track lists of Cellarful of Bell Soul?

A poor old Amy/Mala/Bell collector wants to know (that would be me)! ;)

Best,

Mark
