Mary Wilson (billed as The Supremes) performed in Akron, Ohio last night at the new amphitheater on the First Energy Stage. Mary was stunning in a green sequined gown and her Supremes were in pink, sequined gowns with the old Supremes moves. Her orchestra was tight and the best part of the show was The Supremes hits from the 60's. The only 70's song she did was "Bad Weather"....which I thought was an odd choice as it was the lesser of those 70's recordings. It sounded "ok", but, I was never a fan of the thing. Mary's backup vocalist looked great, though, half way through the show looked rather bored. The least impressive part of the show was the "Brown Sugar" and "Satisfaction" stuff. Wish she'd drop that. It was loud and boring. She had the crowd standing and dancing with her last song...."Last Dance". She did a great job with this and equalled Donna's original. Mary looked great and sounded great. After 40 some years.....God Bless her. The guy selling her cd's and pictures, etc. said she wanted to do the 60's reunion before she'd do the 70's.....but, she was willing! Hmmm. Are you listening Diana?

I feel remiss in not mentioning the opening act for The Supremes/Mary Wilson, which was the Wanda Hunt Band. This is a "local" band from Akron, Ohio. Wanda Hunt is accompanied by 6 band members. Wanda blew the roof off with her voice. Her voice is a combination of Martha Reeves, Kim Weston and Etta James. Please check out her web site....www.wandahuntband.com. I purchased her CD after the show and met her....nice lady! She sang several of the songs from her CD..."Champagne and Bar-b-Que, Party Town and I'll Move On". "I'll Move On" sounded right out of STAX! It'd raise the hair on the back of your necks(or anywhere else for that matter)! For those of you in Northeast Ohio, check out the web site for upcoming appearances. I said to someone at the concert....why hasn't a major record label picked her up? The response was "They don't record REAL voices anymore"! The CD is great because it's recorded with REAL musicians! No fake drum beats here! Can't wait to see her again real soon!

rockfan...it sounded like it was a cool show...that's something else on my list of concert "must-see's"---Mary Wilson (with or without Diana :o)
I've never seen her in concert, I wonder if she'll be in Indy anytime soon.
