Here I go again.........Michael McDonald was on Stax's PBS special. He sang "When There's Something Wrong With My Baby" with Carla Thomas.
Absolutely Incredible! Thank God, it's on DVD!
Great, Great Show! It's a must see!

Carla looked fabulous and sounded wonderful with MM.
Isaac Hayes Shaft was a show stopper
But Booker T and the MG's Green Onion brought the crowd to their feet.
I wondered where Wilson Pickett was and then remembered Wilson mentioning at the RNR Hall of fame something about him and Steve Cropper not agreeing about something. MM sang Sitting on the Top of the Bay with Steve proudly playing behind him.
And Stu, I will never 4-GET Michael!

I saw this show last night. A very good show, but much too short, in my opinion. And at least in my town (Boston), it had no ending. The last thing I saw was Mavis Staples singing I'LL TAKE YOU THERE. But I never saw any credits. And for some strange reason, Boston showed the final section of the show twice. Did that happen elsewhere?
While I enjoyed the show, I thought more honor could have been paid to the true pioneers of the Memphis sound, like Carla Thomas and William Bell. I was disappointed that they only could performed one song each, while Michael McDonald performed two. This isn't a slight against Michael. He is one of my favorite singers, and he did a fantastic job. But he never recorded for any of the Memphis labels.

I was quite shocked to see MM in the show also.
I had no idea he was included until he was introduced. He has covered numerous songs from their label and his Sitting on the Dock....
is fantastic. Carla probably had something
to do with the collaboration selection.

Ouch it must be another of those $200 sets...
For us foreigners it is a bit out of reach...
I remember the great soul program from earlier on this year with Jerry Butler, Thelma Houston, G.Gaynor, The Trammps, Chic and so many more... I can't wait for this one to be available at a regular price too... I know they would sell volumes of those if the price was right... I understand they raise funds for the station but for foreigners who can't watch the channel (even on cable) it is a bit tough...! LOL

I didnt know what all the hype was over Michael McDonald but when I saw him NOW I KNOW. He was incredible!!!! Solomon Burke was the SHIT!!! I dont curse but I really mean this one the bishop did Try A Little Tenderness by Otis Redding and although he sat down most of the time he got up and moved that 400 pound body he was totally awesome. Everyone on that show was great and Eddie Floyd did Knock on Wood and it was way too short of a show it should have been much longer.
I did miss Wilson Pickett (that man has a beef with everybody for some reason)...to see Isaac Hayes conducting the orchestra he looked like a kid in a candy store...LOL This show was good but it should have been longer. On another channel I also saw the 1980 concert of the Beach Boys when they were last together. Dennis Wilson looked like he was out of it and Brian looked stoned but they could all play. I dont like Mike Love it seemed to me the best folks on the stage were Bruce Johnston...who you might as well call an honorary beach boy and Carl was in good voice and then you have Al Jardine. Dennis and Carl will be missed what a legacy. I didnt really appreciate the Beach Boys until I got older
I still think Darlin, Heroes and Villains and Sail on Sailor are more listenable than the Beach stuff but the more I listen to it I appreciate their awesome harmonies and Brian Wilsons great technology at the time.
