I am a big collector of records
and another fave label of mine is the
Tuff record Label.

with great artists such as
Bobby Treetop.
E.Rodney Jones.
Kendra Spotswood(aka Sandi Sheldon).
Bobby Copney
Little Joe Romans
as well as others.

But what I would really like to find out is who were the main backing musicians etc.

As everything I have heard is brilliant to say the least
and I for one would love to find out about the musicians and also the backing singers as I love the girls that back up
Little Joe Romans.

many thanks for any info.
regards

There was a TUFF label in NYC owned by Zell Sanders and Abner Spector on which Sally Go Round the Roses appeared, but I doubt if it the same TUFF label.

Bobby
I think it was out of New York but not 100%
did you ever do any work on the Label at all or do you know any of the musicians that did by any chance?
I didnt expect much as this isnt a detroit thing but would appreciate anything else you might know.
Many thanks anyway Bobby.

ps
I have looked at my Tuff singles
the yellow Labled Tuff and also the multi-coloured Labels but they have no info regards address.
But I am pretty sure that there is an even earlier Tuff Record Label that is White in Colour and may have a boxing glove on it,
this is where it is throwing me as the ones I have are just plain Labels and this is where I was getting mixed up between New York and Chicago.

The Tuff label I remember that had the Jaynettes had boxing gloves at the top where it said TUFF and was a dark yellow color...I thought it was out of Chicago and thats where they recorded....my brother use to have the Jaynettes album and I thought it had something about Chicago on the back but I could be wrong.

Well, Eli says New York so that must be it because I remember the name Abner Spector and ofcourse Zell Sanders wrote the whole LP.

Thanks Tony
thats where my confusion is coming from.
I always thought of Chicago but something in the back of my mind is telling me New York.

Tuff Records was out of New York. The Hearts ("Dear Abby") also recorded on Tuff. Tuff's B-sides usually consisted of the A-side track without the vocals and were titled, ex: "Dear Abby" SING ALONG WITHOUT THE HEARTS.

Scratcher
thanks for that.
Do you have any info whatsoever regards any of the backing musicians and backing singers?
Regards
mel.

I remember the "Sally Go Round The Roses" LP by the Jaynettes...the last track was "A special guest appearance by The Hearts...Dear Abby" which actually sounded like the Jaynettes and was my favorite song on the whole LP.Scratcher is right that all the 45's I remember seeing always had the instrumental track on the flip .
