dvdmike It was interesting that you mentioned the Lou Christie disc as it was one of several non Soul records, that for no particular reason, was played in Soul clubs in the UK, others off hand were by Bruce Channel, Box Tops, Bob Kuban, Len Barry, Guy Darrell, Newbeats etc. Keith

It was one of mine too, Keith. I remember hearing it a lot on my dad's car radio. One of the first non-soul records I ever bought was Len Barry's "1-2-3".

dvdmike I assume you are stateside, that falsetto sound of Lou Christie's made Frankie Valli MASSIVE in the UK. The 4 Seasons' `You're Ready Now` & `The Proud One` along with the Newbeats - `Run Baby Run` were just smash hits here. Keith

The backing vocals ("let me out, ooh-ooh") were done by the Angels, a couple of years removed from their run of chart singles.
Best,
Mark

Mark, are you sure The Angels did the backgrounds? I tried researching this and I couldn't find out anything credible.

I thought "The Tammys" did the backround vocals? They were "his" girl group from PA.

I have seen this man live and he is awesome he is one of the best falsettos left on the planet Frankie Valli (god bless him) started to lose his voice in the late 80s and Lou can still blow.
You should hear his song Trapeze and Rhapsody in the Rain. He had a substantial chart run with at least 6 or 7 major hits but he should have had much more..

I have heard that the Angels did the backgrounds
and then I heard it was singer Linda Scott and
some others.

I personally think it was the Angels I have seen the Angels listed in more books than Linda Scott but who knows maybe an Andante was back there..LOL

I think they were played because they were good to dance to. A number of records now classed as freak beat or 6T's garage were also played The Human Beinz's version of The isley's Nobody But me, the Outsiders Time Won't Let me, The Seeds Pushin' Too Hard and maybe some others.

I always kind of associated Lou's 'Supergirl' (Oo ee oo) with Chris Clark's 'I wanna Go Back There Again (oo ee oo). Can't think why, but there is a possible Andantes connection there.

I agree with Stephanie that Lou is quite a dynamic act to see in concert. I saw him last summer on a bill with the Association and Frankie Valli.
While Frankie no longer can hit the notes that he used to, Lou is certainly VERY capable of singing his old songs. Check him out if you get the chance.
Best,
Mark

Folks:
This in from the All Music Guide:

No surprise the Angels sang backup on "Lightning Strikes" - Charles Callelo also arranged & conducted sessions for Bob Crewe, who had Phyllis "Jiggs" Allbut on his Dyno-Voice label.
