It is EXTREMELY rare that a finalist from a national talent show went anywhere.
There have been instances however, where non-finalists went on fortune and fame

IT SEEMS SOMEONE IS TRYING TO BILL HIM AS THE NEXT LUTHER VANDROSS. THAT IS MISTAKE NEMERO UNO

he's not original in any way, shape or form

Mr. Opinionated: BUT CAN A SHAPE OR FORM BE CREATED FOR HIM ? THAT IS THE QUESTION.

I saw him perform at a sports arena along with the rest of the American Idol finalists just a few weeks ago. His large size helps define him as a presence during a live performance. Right now he has a better shot than most people trying to make it as a professional singer. Will he have a career by this time next year? I have no idea.

ok, come on, please don't start bashing Rueben.
He's a good singer, the proof is when he won on
American Idol...and I've yet 2 hear him sing like Barry White or Luther, he has his own style of Ruebenizing a song~~~~

I saw American Idols live a few weeks ago in Buffalo. Ruben did an admirable job, and I walked away with as much admiration for Clay and all the others. It was an evening of positivity and great showmanship. I hope these kids are making substantial dollars, although that's probably not the case. I've read that Ruben feels he's in good health and not interested in losing weight. But in person he clearly was having difficulty. I don't know if he could pull off an entire show on his own. He's heavier than he appears on TV, and for his own health, I hope he gets some help.

HEY MED!!!...I WASN'T CRITICIZING RUBENS SINGING...I THINK HE'S GREAT!!!...I THOUGHT THE QUESTION WAS...HOW FAR CAN RUBEN RUN???...STUBASS

I PERSONALLY HAVE NOT HEARD OR SEEN ANYTHING ORIGINAL IN REUBEN, I WISH HIM THE BEST, BUT HE JUST DOESN'T BLOW ME AWAY, I DON'T SEE HIM GOING BEYOND 2 ALBUMS, THE FIRST GOING GOLD, BECAUSE THEY WILL PUSH IT. THE SECOND........?

Why don't we just wait & see, before we just start doubting him? I've seen a lot of artists who I thought would make it, didn't. It could go either way.

Handsome: WHAT ABOUT HIS RUNNER-UP CLAY ? I SEE A FUTURE FOR THE KID. BROADWAY MAYBE ?, HE GOT CHARM, CHARISMA, (more talent than reuben) HE JUST MAY MAKE IT

I agree with NY-Dell, even though I don't care for him,(my opinion) but it doesn't mean he's not gonna make it.

I look at it this way he can sing a lot better than what is out there!!! I think that people have heard enough bull!!! Ruben and Clay are really good at what they do and I think they both have a good chance of making it compared to whats out here now,
Stephanie

Top of pageBottom of page   By NY-DELL (12.14.39.66) on Tuesday, August 05, 2003 - 05:46 pm:

stephanie: BOTH ARE JUST NOVELTIES AT THIS POINT. REUBEN HAS TO DEVELOPE A MORE COMMERCIAL SOUND, THE MATERIAL WON'T MATTER IF HE CAN'T SWING IT VOCALLY, CLAY IS DIFFERENT THE RIGHT MOVES AND HE GOES ALOT FARTHER I THINK THAT CLAY IS MORE ARTISTICLY AND AVENUES OF ENTERTAINMENT ARE OPEN TO HIM, REUBEN'S FUTURE IS MUCH MORE LIMITED.

Stu,
Although Rueben didn't win the American Idol contest by running, but if he's larger N person than he is on TV, maybe he should B very careful pushing himself 2 far.
They say TV adds about 10 lbs. 2 a persons appearance...well... all I can say is I hope Rueben can hang N there!

Top of pageBottom of page   By STUBASS (206.135.204.254) on Tuesday, August 05, 2003 - 10:14 pm:

I DO UNDERSTAND THAT RUEBEN IS VERY LARGE...AND YOU'RE RIGHT MED...CARRYING THAT MUCH WEIGHT AROUND IS JUST NOT HEALTHY...AND WITH THE RIGORS OF ENTERTAINING...IT COULD BE TOUGH!!!...REMEMBER SWEET JAMES OF THE FANTASTIC 4???...HE TOO WAS VASTLY OVERWEIGHT...AND WHEN I USED TO DO SHOWS WITH THEM...JAMES USED TO SWEAT PROFUSELY...JUST LIKE I NOTICED THE ONE TIME I SAW RUEBEN PERFORM (I'M REALLY NOT A BIG AMERICAN IDOL FAN)!!!...STUBASS

well I'll be the first here to admit that during the American Idol season, I was a "Rubenite"...I don't know, I guess he just kind of made America fall in love with him...but since then, I've heard his remake of Luther's song on the radio, and while it is a decent cover, I guess I'm kind of just looking for more originality as well...something fresh and new, and I truly believe that he is capable of it, but the question is, will he get with the right team that will give him good music, and material that he needs? I'm sorry, but that "Flying without Wings" just didn't do it for me...maybe if he got with someone like Quincy Jones or Babyface.

Top of pageBottom of page   By JoB (204.42.12.2) on Thursday, August 07, 2003 - 02:50 am:

...BTW, I was watching "American Juniors" last night, and they did an interview with that judge Simon...they asked him what was he looking for in the contestants for the upcoming season of "American Idol", and among other things, he said, "...and better looking contestants, as well."

I wondered if he was taking a shot @ Ruben, Clay, Kimberly and crew from last season...if so, I think he'd better be careful what he wishes for...As we've all learned from past seasons, the ones that look the best, SING THE WORST...

Ruben is on the cover of Rolling Stone!!!

I honestly don't think Rueben is getting the attention he should. I C more Clay & hear more about Kelly Clarkston... and I don't think they R REAL natural born singers either...(sorry toes)...glad I know who the Real McCoy is anyway.

I am waiting for Miss. Tamyra Gray's turn. That girl held her own on the first American Idol.

Put Reuben up against the likes of an Usher....well, Usher sounds like an off tune, no voice, no talent singer that he is. Reuben blows him out of the water. If Usher can make it....so can my dog!
