I think it would be difficult to jump in as the lead singer to front groups that have built a headliner rep through the years. I have personally seen Harold "Eban" Brown of The Stylistics, "Big Daddy" of Harold Melvin's Blue Notes, and Wade Elliott of Ray, Goodman & Brown (though he's no longer with them).
These singers all do a great job. I don't know anything about them or their "coming up." Maybe some of you have other examples, or maybe some light to shed on these three I've named.

My #1 pick is Eban brown of the Stylistics.
When I recently conducted for them at Philly's new Kimmel Center for the Performings Arts, I had to turn around several times in disbelief.

Sidney Justin does a fantastic job for the Miracles. He has not one but TWO hard acts to follow, Smokey and Billy.
Ali Woodson did a terrific job with the Temptations, as did Theo Peoples.

Donnell Gilespie is Big Daddy of Harold Melvin's Bluenotes and to me he sounds the closest to Teddy P. Eli...Are you gonna see any Dell East Concerts this summer.
