I was inspired this morning on my way 2 work. I had the Radio on and they played The Dramatics, (with LJ up front) doing 'Open The Door To Your Heat & Let Me In'. After listening 2 that song, I think it gave another definition of what we call 'SOUL"..so, let's name songs that the Vocalists REALLY, REALLY put his/her all N2 it.
I'll start with ~
A Love I Can See~ Temps
I can't get over you~Dramatics
That's What Friends Are For~ Gladys/Dionne/Elton/Stevie
United Together~Aretha Franklin
Back Up Train~Al Green
Jealous Kinda Fella~Garland Green
Distant Lover~Marvin Gaye
Heart Of The City~Bobby Bland
Soul Inspiration/Lovin' Feelin'~Righteous Bros.
Prisoner Of Love~James Brown
What's Come Over Me~Blue Magic
No Matter How High I Get~Bobby Womack
I Feel Good All Over~Stephanie Mills
Melancholy Fire~Glenn Jones(Norman Connors)
Bewildered/Try Me~James Brown
Fool For You Baby~Aretha
For The Lover In You~Howard Hewitt
Try A Little Tenderness~Otis Redding
..and I hope this isn't the 2nd time around for this Topic, if so..sorry..carry on folks~~~

OTIS REDDING..."TRY A LITTLE TENDERNESS" WAS AN EXCELLENT EXAMPLE OF OTIS (AS USUAL) PUTTING MEGA SOUL INTO HIS PERFORMANCE...AS YOU LISTED... MED!!!...THAT TUNE...A STANDARD (WHICH HAS BEEN DISCUSSED ON ANOTHER THREAD)...PUT SOME BEAUTIFUL INSTRUMENTATION TOGETHER...WITH BOOKER T DOING ORGAN LINES IN CONCERT WITH A PIANO...VERY NICE!!!...BUT FOR MY MONEY..."I'VE BEEN LOVING YOU TOO LONG"...IS OTIS IN HIS MOST SOULFUL AND HEARTFELT INTERPRETIVE MUSICAL ENVIRONMENT...SO I WOULD ADD THAT SONG TO YOUR LIST (IF I MAY BE SO BOLD)!!!...STUBASS

In repeating again, this... was from a previous thread which I had posted, elswhere on this forum on Saturday, July 12, 2003 - 10:27 am:

There was a once a quote given by someone, or another, who had said that, "...the soul, like the body, lives by what it feeds on."

Think about that for a minute, as for example....
So it was with Mr. Brooke Benton in 1970, as he beautifully sang, just seemingly poured all his 'hungry' soul into that one (lovely) R&B soul 'classic' from way back when, with... "A Rainy Night In Georgia."

A fine example of a contemporary expression of soul is Regina Belle and her rendition of "Show me the way." I loved her smokey toned video with her looking every inch the modern Nefertiti; quite exotic and lovely.
