One of the Best and Underated bands of all time! There is a greatest hits collection that is now being advertised on television, however there seems to be a problem. There is band out of California called S.O.B. which features four of the five original surviving members of WAR- Lee Oskar, Harold Brown, Howard Scott, and B.B.Dickerson, who left WAR in 78'. However, WAR now only consist of one original member Lonnie Jordan and some other guys. Several years ago I recall seeing Brown and Scott along with Jordan perform as WAR.Iwnt to the WAR website to see what exactly is going on, only to find out now the use of the name WAR is a legal case. So apparently there is no peace with WAR. Does anyone know exactly what is going on.
p.s. Where is Eric Burdon, who abandoned War in the early seventies, I know Papa Dee Allen and Charles Miller(murder in 80') have passed?

Be careful to check timings when buying a War collection. Rhino's has the single version of "Slippin' Into Darkness" that clips off the entire "well, well, well...." opening and starts with Oscar's harp just before the first verse.

There was a legal battle over the "WAR" name. Apparently, Lonnie Jordan won the case and has use of the name...and the other "still involved" originals go by the name "SOB" (Same Ole Band).

I saw Howard Scott, Lee Oskar & Lonnie Jordan together as WAR in 1992 at SOB's here in NYC. They were absolutely fabulous and tight as hell as well as being some of the nicest bunch of guys I met in my career.

It's a shame they cannot seem to get along now...

1Wicked,

The group name is actually owned by Jerry Goldstein, the group's original producer. There is absolutely no hard feelings among the surviving band members, just between several of them and Goldstein. I had dinner with Harold Brown about a year and a half ago. He's living in New Orleans and teaching drums at a clinic in his church.

IWicked U Right, there are hard feelings towards Lonnie Jordan and Jerry Goldstein from the rest of War, including Harold Brown.

Los Angeles
Harold Brown, the original drummer for the act War, has filed an amended complaint in district court against band vocalist Leroy Lonnie Jordan, band manager Jerry Goldstein, and several Goldstein-affiliated companies for alleged violations of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO), the Langham Act, and the Copyright Act, among other claims.
The complaint names Brown as plaintiff acting on behalf of other War members and is identical to one filed the same day by War guitarist Harold Scott, according to lawyers for Brown and Scott. Brown's attorney, Matt Pepper, estimates the damages to be in excess of $1 million. Dean Browning Webb, another lawyer for Brown, says that deposition subpoenas have been served to Rhino Record s, Navarre, RCA Special Products/BMG, Sony, Sony Music Entertainment Inc., PolyGram, and MCA in order to determine the amount of profits allegedly owed to the plaintiff from War recordings.

Back to Eric Burdon, he still tours but I believe with the 'Eric Burdon Band', I thought the 'New Animals' were a one-off tour with Allen Price in '83? I remember that tour, it started in Montreal but I was too young despite digging the Animals. A friend saw him in St Catherines, Ontario about 10 years ago, someone yelled out for 'House Of The Rising Sun' & he gave my pal 'the finger' thinking he'd been the one who yelled the request!

Oh, okay... I just thought my 90's info was updating what I mistook to be your 80's info, but it looks like you were providing a post-millenial update after all!

It's a shame that they can't get it all sorted out. I thought the "Peace Sign" album from 1994 was actually pretty good, and was hoping for more.

Regards,
Ken

heard them this morning on Tom Joyner. They sounded great. I would love to see the 5 surviving members reunite and possibly be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
