on Little Richards recordings for Brunswick records around 1967
in New York City

And around 1972 or 1975

He recorded for RCA Victor and Peacock before Specialty. He said some years ago that Don Robey punched him in the face during a dispute.

dvdmike:
Don Robey's penchant for being a tough guy is indeed well known and documented. Today, if he even lifted a finger, the only one doing the hitting would've been Little Richard's attorney (with a fat lawsuit!)

This is unrelated, but that kind of reminded me of a conversation I had with a co-worker. He was contemplating having an affair. He said he had always fantasized about having a threesome. I told him, "You're going to have a threesome, alright. You, your wife and her divorce attorney." "And he's going to do to you what you did to those other women...only harder!"

Getting punched in the face is assault. A criminal charge. But Little Richard knew better than to report it. You don't report people like Don Robey. Either you shrugged it off and stop doing business with the guy or you get as ruthless, which is the only thing people like that respect or fear.
Eugene Record never reported what happened to him when he had the audacity to demand a better deal from Brunswick Records. The Lady of Rage was assaulted in the offices of Death Row Records. She didn't run to the cops, she returned to her hometown in either North or South Carolina and hasn't been heard from since.
