What news did you hear this Me?

Top of pageBottom of page   By Me (205.188.209.109) on Saturday, July 19, 2003 - 12:15 pm:

Something involving some women or girls. Something like that.

..something like the Kobe Bryant thing that's goin' on...unfortunately!!!

Top of pageBottom of page   By John Lester (213.123.134.87) on Sunday, July 20, 2003 - 04:33 am:

What is the Kobe Bryant thing?

Top of pageBottom of page   By Ralph (209.240.198.62) on Sunday, July 20, 2003 - 10:32 am:

John,
Kobe Bryant is a star basketball player with the L.A. Lakers. He has been charged with sexual assault of a 19 year old woman that went with him to his hotel room.

Top of pageBottom of page   By John Lester (213.123.142.133) on Sunday, July 20, 2003 - 01:35 pm:

Thank you Ralph.

Top of pageBottom of page   By medusa9e2003 (66.73.0.92) on Sunday, July 20, 2003 - 08:21 pm:

Ralph...correction...she didn't go WITH Kobe Bryant 2 his room, she went 2 his room after hours on her own(after her shift was over).
Y do these women keep going where the Guy(especially celebrity Guys) R, then charge them 4 rape, because he didn't pay?
...I think I'll leave it alone!!!

Anyway, that's what the Johnny Bristol thing is about, very similar...

Medusa: As a woman, you should be ashamed of what you just said.

Top of pageBottom of page   By CasualObserver (24.126.64.120) on Sunday, July 20, 2003 - 10:50 pm:

No, Medusa shouldn't be ashamed. Those "types" DO exist. They follow athletes, entertainers, big name ministers, etc. looking for a good time (and bragging rights)....with *some* looking for the big score (payday). I'm not naming names or particular situations that may have been covered in the press or what I have personal knowledge of...just saying it does happen. I just "pity the fools" that go for the "okey doke" because they put EVERYTHING at risk.

Top of pageBottom of page   By Max (64.12.97.7) on Sunday, July 20, 2003 - 10:54 pm:

CasualObserver u should b ashame of yourself 2...you r blaming da victim.

Top of pageBottom of page   By Reserving judgment (64.12.97.7) on Sunday, July 20, 2003 - 11:04 pm:

Max,

It's not blaming the victim to question why a 19-year-old woman would clock out of her job and visit the room of a famous sports star late at night.

I wouldn't do that and I don't know any woman who would, or who'd want her daughter to do such a thing. And before you say it, no, her bad judgment doesn't mean she deserved ill treatment. But it brings up the question of her motives.

It's precisely because many of us are women that we aren't automatically buying one side of this against the other.

Top of pageBottom of page   By DetroitDar (198.81.26.170) on Sunday, July 20, 2003 - 11:04 pm:

Yes...she should be ashamed! I'm not suggesting there are not groupies out there looking for bragging rights or monetary payoffs. However the truth is that not enough women who are raped have the courage to press charges because they all know what humiliation they will have to endure. If the man is rich or powerful, we all know the chances of obtaining justice are slim. None of us know what happened in this particular instance, but for a sister to basically call a 19 year old girl who had the courage to come forward a "hooker", and place the blame on her without waiting to hear the facts of the case takes us back to the dark ages!

Top of pageBottom of page   By Reserving judgment (64.12.97.7) on Sunday, July 20, 2003 - 11:07 pm:

Come on Dar, you don't know what really happened here. It's a little premature to try and convict Kobe Bryant don't you think? Have you heard all the evidence?

Unfortunately, the 19th century way our society views rape as a shameful act for the victim, the media hides the identity of the accuser, even if she's making it up, while the name of the accused is dragged through the mud.

You don't have to be a man to sense the essential unfairness of that. What if he's innocent? Isn't the damage to his reputation already done?

Top of pageBottom of page   By Max (64.12.97.7) on Sunday, July 20, 2003 - 11:11 pm:

Reserving...she ran out of the room screaming. He didn't wear a condom. What if she's pregnant? And: HE'S MARRIED!

Top of pageBottom of page   By Reserving judgment (64.12.97.7) on Sunday, July 20, 2003 - 11:14 pm:

Max,
"HE'S MARRIED" -- are you kidding or are you serous?? Adultery isn't against the law.

What does condom use have to do with whether it was forcible or not? "What if she's pregnant"??
Pregnancy happens every day, after consensual relations. And your point is ...?

Top of pageBottom of page   By Max (64.12.97.7) on Sunday, July 20, 2003 - 11:17 pm:

Reserving, it's obvious you have no morals or sense of family so I'll bow out here.

Top of pageBottom of page   By DetroitDar (198.81.26.170) on Sunday, July 20, 2003 - 11:17 pm:

Reserving Judgement: I'm the one who said we don't know what happened. I am sick over the thought that it could even be possible that he did it. I was only objecting to Medusa immediately blaming the girl...that's a position that I'd expect from a sexist man.

Top of pageBottom of page   By Reserving judgment (64.12.97.7) on Sunday, July 20, 2003 - 11:20 pm:

But Dar, you don't see that you're being just as judgmental toward Medusa.

Does a woman always have to say every woman is right, in every encounter with a man? God help us then, it's a world that includes Ann Coulter, and I'm never going to say she's right.

Top of pageBottom of page   By Observing 2 (64.12.97.7) on Sunday, July 20, 2003 - 11:23 pm:

Medusa done started some &$#^!

Top of pageBottom of page   By Reserving judgment (64.12.97.7) on Sunday, July 20, 2003 - 11:27 pm:

"No morals or sense of family"? Good grief, for saying Kobe Bryant might NOT be guilty, that we don't know yet, you're going to turn me over to Pat Robertson?

What do family and morals have to do with a 19-year-old going to a married sports star's room late at night?

Top of pageBottom of page   By DetroitDar (198.81.26.170) on Sunday, July 20, 2003 - 11:27 pm:

Reserving Judgement: I don't understand...first why you won't use your name, and second...why it is so hard for you to grasp what I have said. Please re-read my posts!
I AM NOT TAKING EITHER SIDE!

Top of pageBottom of page   By Reserving judgment (64.12.97.7) on Sunday, July 20, 2003 - 11:29 pm:

Oh, and "DetroitDar" is what you sign your checks with?

I've grasped your posts, thanks. You came out and thrashed Medusa for opining about young women who go to sports stars rooms late at night. Then you ranted about women who don't believe women who say it's rape. Why do we always have to believe one side?

Sometimes these cases are true, sometimes they're not.

Top of pageBottom of page   By DetroitDar (198.81.26.170) on Sunday, July 20, 2003 - 11:34 pm:

OK: I give up.
For the record...I totally agree with the last line of your last post.
By the way, if you think that was ranting...you aint seen nothing! LOL

Top of pageBottom of page   By Casual Observer (24.126.64.120) on Monday, July 21, 2003 - 12:22 am:

No Max...I am not taking sides. I stated that I would not refer to specific cases (this one included). I merely said that a certain type of person does, in fact, exist. For the record, I have nothing but contempt for any man who forces himself on a woman...and the same contempt for anyone making false claims that a man did.

Top of pageBottom of page   By medusa9e2003 (66.73.0.92) on Monday, July 21, 2003 - 12:22 am:

Nooooo, I'm not ashamed, because first of all, I wouldn't do anything 2 jeopardize myself or anyone else...then I wouldn't put myself in a scenerio that would cause a conflict. Whoever this woman is, she knew what she was doing. One of her girlfriends said that in so many words on 'Today' Show last week.
I work in an Emergency Room, and we do treat a lot of( Alleged )Rape Victims and you should hear some of the stories they tell, then you would understand why I made the previous statement...and these are regular Civilians, I can imagine how it goes with a celebrity...some women are really victims...I think in the Kobe Case, like I said she was out for the $$$...She should've gone straight home, instead of to Kobe Bryants room don't you think? and all of these allegations could've been avoided...again, we can't always blame the Guy... If Kobe was there for knee surgery, I'm quite sure he was in a lot of pain, and that also makes me wonder... DetroitDar, sorry...but I hope Kobe gets out of this mess...his "Rep/Marriage" is at stake here!!! As for the woman, I hope she can explain why she clocked out at work and made her decision(pre meditated) to go to a Kobes' bedroom...

this would be a very boring Forum.
Actually the topic was about Motown's Johnny Bristol.

I apologize for stirring things up.

I also meant 2 say, thanx 2 everyone that had my back on the Kobe Bryant story...now the media is saying that the alleged victim tried 2 commit suicide a few months B4 this incident happened with Kobe. Now the Defense has something 2 play with (that's 2 bad)...Kobe did make a statement that he committed 'Adultrey'. If it's only adultrey, and she consented, then it's no crime is it? aaaaaahhhhh dang ~ good night all!!!
I sense something stirring Up again...
All I can say is U just have 2 B very careful of who U spend time with alone, other than your Significant other...It's Catching, First Bill Clinton, Kobe, now Johnny Bristol, who's next???
I wonder if a Guy ever cry 'Rape', then what???? OMG, I'm outta here!!!

Top of pageBottom of page   By Reserving judgment (205.188.209.109) on Monday, July 21, 2003 - 11:15 pm:

Edgar,
We were talking about the legal issue. In the United States, it's not the government's business if people are involved in immoral, but legal conduct.

The question for our legal system to decide is not whether or not Kobe Bryant and this unnamed woman committed adultery -- of course they did -- or whether it was wrong -- most people would agree it was wrong. What our legal system will decide is whether or not Bryant raped her. That is the legal question, and that could put him in jail.

The moral question here is not being dismissed, it's simply irrelevant to the legal proceedings. It's mixing apples and oranges. And if you're throwing stones at them for immoral conduct, the woman having an affair with a married man is as guilty as the man, isn't she?

Top of pageBottom of page   By medusa9e2003 (66.73.0.42) on Monday, July 21, 2003 - 11:23 pm:

Edgar,
I'm very sorry, and I don't mean 2 offend U or anyone else, but of all the crimes that R committed, I've yet 2 hear~
"Ok Buddy, Turn around, hands behind your back, anything you say can and will be used against you in a Court of Law, you're being arrested for committing Adultrey"...now, come on, no ones ever going to hear that. You may hear something if one's caught saliciting or assault, but Adultrey???? Half of the Women & Men would be behind Bars...NOT ALL!!!

Motown Legend Johnny Bristol Facing Sex Charges
Waitress Claims Singer Fondled Her

POSTED: 1:03 a.m. EDT July 18, 2003
UPDATED: 1:05 a.m. EDT July 18, 2003

DETROIT -- A member of Motown's legendary "music family" may be facing the music.

Singer-songwriter Johnny Bristol, 64, was charged Thursday with three counts of criminal sexual conduct.

A 26-year-old waitress told police she was invited back to Bristol's Brighton house to look at his recording studio.

She said when she tried to leave, he locked the door and fondled her.

The waitress admits she took $700 before she left.

Bristol claims he didn't touch her. His attorney said he thinks Bristol was set up.

Bristol produced some of Motown's biggest hits during his career, becoming famous for wooing female fans with his music.
