if you could have a wish come true, what
artist or artists, would you like to spend
the whole day with and talk about their
experiences in the music business(they must be
alive).
the two artist that would make my wish come true
would be QUINCY JONES AND MAURICE WHITE.

P.S. MAKE THOSE TWO PEOPLE SOMEONE YOU
NEVER MET BEFORE

Hi.

There are several people I'd like to talk to, but to narrow it to 2, it would be:

1)Berry Gordy

2) Gamble & Huff

ok, that's 3 people!

Top of pageBottom of page   By Ralph (209.240.198.62) on Friday, July 18, 2003 - 04:32 pm:

That's an easy one for me..
Ray Charles, Jerry Lee Lewis and Little Richard. My three main musical influences. Sadly for me, in spite of my many wonderful experiences in the business, I never have been able to meet any of these guys to tell them what they meant to me as a young musician and how they influenced me.

If I could name three people I would like to have a conversation with, they would be

Berry Gordy
Richard Barrett (I've only conversed with him through this site)
Thom Bell

Bill Drake, Jeep Holland OR Punch Andrews, General Jackson.

Top of pageBottom of page   By Fury13 (12.2.196.17) on Friday, July 18, 2003 - 05:08 pm:

I assume this refers only to those still living... because 15 years ago I would have said "Morris Levy" without hesitation.

So, now I'll say, Harry Balk and Devora Brown.

Although it would definitely be an experience talking to Little Richard...

Top of pageBottom of page   By Ralph (209.240.198.62) on Friday, July 18, 2003 - 05:16 pm:

Fury,
I speak from years of first hand experience...Harry Balk is a gas to talk with. I wish everyone could experience this remarkable man.

My apologies, this person is no longer with us; but I feel compelled to mention her, as she once had the world at her feet then returned to the ashes. She was on my mind constantly for the nine or so years of her "disappeance," and her memory still haunts me today. Ladies and Gentlemen: "Miss Florence Ballard."

Fury,
If you go to John Rhys' web-site Bluepower.com there is a taped interview with Harry. I've never heard it because my computer can't open up that file but you might check it out. I hear it's very good.

Mel: Thanks for the flattering thought but you already know everything about me.

Fayette/Quincy is as good as having that kind of conversation on a currently running BBC Radio 2 serialisation on his life and work....Sadly,I've missed out on it to date and am relying on my Dad(A very hip 77 !!!) to keep me posted on the content.
They're just getting to his work on "Bad"....after my recent request on what people thought about why Q and MJ seemed to completely cut their ties and not be too generous in their mutual admiration(perfuntory,at best) I'm intrigued to hear if Q gives anything more than "the party line" post-"Bad".....
Check out the Net www.bbc.co.uk/radio
Follow directions to Radio 2
The show is broadcast TUESDAYS AT 20.30 UK TIME
(So 3.30 pm EST)

Hey fayette.

I would love to sit down w/Berry Gordy - Otis Williams - Smokey Robinson - Mary Wilson - Diana Ross - Stevie Wonder - Martha Reeves - Quincy Jones and Muhammad Ali.

Like someone mentioned - the others are sadly gone.

Now if you want to know whom I wouldn't mind being stranded on a desert island with - here they are:

Denzel Washington - He'd be mine.
Will Smith - He'd make me laugh.
Wesley Snipes - We'd argue probably. He'd be a challenge.
Smokey Robinson - He could sing to me and quote me poetry.

LOL!

I would also like to meet
Soulsister and Little Jimmy Scott.

I recieved a lot of various items regards the life of Mr Scott and his music plus some facts regards Soulsisters various life as well.

I cannot thank them both enough for the warmth and kindness that they have shown me personally off line.

Now I am able to read, listen and educate myself fully in the incredible life styles of 2 of the warmest and most sincerest people I have ever had the honour and pleasure to correspond with.

Hopefully I will get to meet them both
at Ronnie Scotts club around January.

RESPECT
mel.

I CAN RELATE ONE STORY WHICH DID COME TRUE REGARDING MY BROTHER!!!...ONE OF HIS TRUE MUSICAL HERO'S WAS THE LATE GREAT HENRY MANCINI!!!...MR. MANCINI GOT BOOKED INTO THE FISHER THEATRE IN DETROIT...AND MY BROTHER...ALL OF ABOUT 16 CALLED MR. MANCINI'S HOTEL TO SEE IF HE COULD ARRANGE A PERSONAL MEETING!!!...A VERY GRACIOUS HENRY MANCINI ARRANGED FOR BRUCE TO COME BACKSTAGE AFTER HIS CONCERT...AND LOOK AT A FEW ARRANGEMENTS BRUCE DID...AND ANSWER SOME QUESTIONS!!!...I WAS PROBABLY 11 OR 12 YEARS OLD...BUT REMEMBER BRUCE GETTING READY TO GO DOWN THERE TO MEET ONE OF THE TRUE LEGENDS OF THE MUSIC BUSINESS...AND HOW EXCITED HE WAS!!!...I DON'T REMEMBER WHAT HENRY THOUGHT OF HIS ARRANGEMENTS...BUT BRUCE DID GO ON TO ARRANGE AND CONDUCT MANY MANY RECORDINGS...AND FOLLOWED MANCINI'S FOOTSTEPS INTO COMPOSING FOR TELEVISION WHICH HE DOES SUCESSFULLY TODAY!!!...I'M SURE THAT HENRY MANCINI WOULD BE MOST PROUD OF HIS EARLY INFLUENCE!!!...STUBASS

Well, the 2 that I haven't met in person that I would love to have a conversation with would be 1)Berry Gordy 2)Phil Spector....I know Mr. Gordy would be very easy for me to have a conversation with.I'd probably be very nervous starting a conversation with Phil Spector although he use to send me & my brother Christmas cards in the mid-late 60's.Oh yea, I'd love to meet & converse with Laura Lee.
