I know this is asking a lot, but would anyone be able to post a complete listing of Cameo and Parkway singles, with release dates if possible. I've searched the web high and low, but the only thing I found was an Australian discography with a number of inconsistenices. I'd really appreciate it. Thank you, Mike

Mike as far as I know the very first Cameo singla was Butterfly by Charlie Gracie and the first Parkway single was the Clas by Chubby Checker.
C/P had a ton of releases in all genres and it would be a monumental task to research this.

Cameo started out in Bernie Lowes house on Tulpehocken Street in the Mount Airy section of
Philly and when Butterfly, which by the way was cut as a demo for Elvis, was released and several subsequent singles such as Mexican hat Rock by Dave Appel and the Aplejacks, and Dinner With Drac hit the charts, they moved to 1405 Locust street where they opened their first in house recording studio.
In 1963 they moved to 309 s. Broad street , the future home of PIR.

By the way, bernie, Kal and dave did write a hit for Elvis called Teddy bear which Charlie Gracie demoed.
I saw Charlie two weeks ago and he looked great!!

Well, I'd settle for the Eddie Holman Parkway singles to start if anyone has that, with release dates. Thanks

Maybe Weldon MacDougal can help - he was involved with the production of Eddie's Parkway releases.

Mr. Eli,

I hear that Charlie Gracie is still quite a performer as well as a good musician. I used to have both "Butterfly" and "Fabulous" on Cameo 45s.

"Dinner With Drac" by Zacherley still cracks me up.

Mr. McDougal, I've been trying to get a list of Eddie's Parkway singles with release dates, but with no success. Would you be willing to share that information. If not, I'll understand.

Randy:
ABKCO is currently promoting the Sam Cooke series of reissues they recently released.

The studio that remastered the Cameo-Parkway & Sam Cooke recordings is the same facility that cuts vinyl masters for the label I work for. According to my colleagues at this studio, the Cameo-Parkway remastering is done - it's ABKCO's move now.

Hi Kevin,

I am a natural pessimist and normally of a wait till we see it disposition but I do hope your informant is right. Could i ask Souful Dtroiters who would like to see some early Philly soul released officially on CD for the first time to head over t the ABCKO site and register some encouraging comments/

Thanks

They've been promising a Cameo-Parkway box set for about 10 years now.

Top of pageBottom of page   By KevGo (64.115.26.80) on Tuesday, July 22, 2003 - 12:24 pm:

Frank M & dvdmike:
The engineer who worked on the Cameo-Parkwasy remastering is the same person who cuts the vinyl masters for my employer.

He said that the tapes needed baking and restoration prior to remastering. It was a tremendous job (20 years-worth of tapes, from quarter-inch to 1/2-inch four-track)but that phase is complete.

Andrew Oldham (former manager of the Rolling Stones)was hired by ABKCO to help put this project together (he gave either Goldmine or Discoveries an interview regarding this). So, like I said, the rest is in ABKCO's court.

But, will Seger try and fight a re-issue of his first five singles as part of this box?

Let's hope a long with the hits and the lesser
known sides by C. Checker, DD Sharp, Orlons,
Dovells, B. Rydell, they include some of the
rare releases like the Swans, Rocky Fellers,
P.Labelle & Bluebelles, etc.

KevGo, if you have any influence at all, or
have a way to communicate this to them, PLEASE
do!!!!! Thanks!

Does C-P even own the rights to the early Bob Seger 45s? Or did Seger (or Punch Andrews or Hideout) retain those masters? I wonder.

Since this question has come up twice, please clue me in on Bob Segar's work with Cameo-Parkway. The label did have production & licensing deals with certain parties (Philadelphia's Jerry Ross for example)so some enlightenment would be appreciated.

I'm gonna guess that Cameo/Parkway holds the rights. I've seen "Sock It To Me Santa" (?) on a couple of Christmas compulations credited "courtesy ABKCO Records".
