2. Please Return Your Love To Me - Girrrrl
3. What Love Has Joined Together
4. Just My Imagination
5. Since I Lost My Baby
6. My Girl

My floaters are - "Don't Look Back" & "I Want A Love I Can See." Meaning that these two fall somewhere in the list above - I just don't know where. "I Want A Love I Can See", was my fave Tempt's song in the miniseries movie.

And of course all the rest. I loved them all basically - but in all honesty - the above list are my faves - yet with dozens right on their heels. Honorable mentions - Melvin's "I Truly, Truly Believe" & Otis's "Don't Send Me Away."

Below are the total number of leads each of the Hall of Fame six - sung:

...WaltB...I swear, I just now took a look at your list, and realized how amazingly similar our lists are...even down to the "live version" of "Don't Look Back"!!
What got me hooked on that one is near the end, when the band breaks it down, and Paul calls out nonchalantly, "Walk on..."...you know right about then that they (the Tempts) are about to break it down themselves....

TD - "My Girl" is a timeless and wonderful song - but I loved "Since I Lost My Baby", more. I think that was an underrated song. It is my fave by David Ruffin.

I remember my parents and other family members and their friends playing the album w/that song on it to death, when I was a young girl.

I will always remember that particular 4th of July in B'ham, AL - when that record was out. We children were dressed in our new rags and were escorted to a amusement park for part of the day. Our parents were at home barbecuing. They played the Temptations and the Four Tops albums all day long. I'll always associate "Sugar Pie Honey Bunch" & "Since I Lost My Baby", with that year's 4th of July - whenever I hear those two songs. They will always bring back special memories for me. Wow!

JoB - to clarify - I meant that we should pick our faves sung by the HOF6 (To include Dennis). So pick away girlfriend. I could barely stop at the ones I listed. LOL! I was safe though, upon stating that I loved dozens more that were on my list' heels.

Ok folks - should I be upset a little bit or what? I was just going thru my CD stand that holds all my CDs and I got befuddled about something. STUBASS - remember when I spoke about my trip to Tower Records when I visited my cousin in November 2001? Well - I ended up buying two CDs. Anyway - one of them was the CD named "The Temptations Christmas Card", and I just found a post card about Tower Records along w/it too. LOL!

I have played the CD only a few times. Now on the outside hard cover of the CD - there is a pic of Melvin - Dennis - Paul - Otis & Eddie. On the inside paper cover - the pic is of - excuse me for I know not his name (I'd only be guessing) - Otis - Dennis - Melvin - and I know not his name. Now what in the star wars was up w/that?

I just noticed that discrepancy - and I do declare! No harm meant - but can anyone guess why I bought it in the first place?

Question -- you call them the "Hall of Fame" Temptations ...

But Dennis Edwards was inducted into the Hall of Fame with them. So how's he excluded from the "Hall of Fame Temptations"?

Top of pageBottom of page   By SB (199.183.163.87) on Saturday, August 02, 2003 - 11:12 am:

Morning All,

Hey Sue. I have included Dennis. Many folks in and out of the entertainment industry refers to the Temptations' lineup of - David - Eddie - Otis - Paul & Melvin as - "The Classic Five." When the Tempts were inducted into the R&R Hall Of Fame in 1989, the aforementioned men were inducted along with Dennis Edwards. Many folks have adopted the term "Hall Of Fame Six" - to identify with and refer to - the six men and members that were inducted into the HOF.

Al Bryant - an original Tempt member was not so honored in being inducted. Should he have been? I don't know.

Top of pageBottom of page   By Sue (152.163.252.68) on Saturday, August 02, 2003 - 11:42 am:

Gotcha.

It's a good point about Al, I don't know.

Dennis said he didn't expect to be included in the RHOF, he congratulated the other guys but was blown away when he got a letter too telling him he was in.

Top of pageBottom of page   By SisDetroit (68.42.209.170) on Saturday, August 02, 2003 - 12:19 pm:

However much I loved Al, I don't think he should have been included. I loved all of the songs they did with Al singing in them. Detroit loved the album "Meet The Temptations", which included Al, as we loved all of the preceeding albums recorded by the Classic Five. But, let's face it, Al was not with them when they reached that great fame. He didn't have what Ruffin had, and the Classics, even with Paul, would have probably been a fade out group.

Top of pageBottom of page   By SB (199.183.163.87) on Saturday, August 02, 2003 - 01:20 pm:

Sis I agree with you. And in hindsight - surely we can reflect that David brought good luck to the Tempts, for after he joined the group - they finally reached the upper echelons on the Billboard chart and scored a hit record.

With Eddie singing lead on "The Way You Do The Things You Do" & "The Girl's Alright With Me", the group finally made it - sort of speak. Who knows how well they would have done if Eddie continued to sing Smokey's standards, and if David had not joined the group? If they had kept Eddie on lead - many of their songs would have been along the same lines as the Delfonics hits that they scored w/William Hart singing lead.

W/Eddie singing lead - the songs would have mostly been the slow and the middle tempo type songs - IMO. But of course - this is all speculation - for we will never know how the group would have fared w/o David - and thank God for him, for I do agree that w/Davids leads the Tempts blew all the way up indeed.

If you all would indulge me in going down memory lane this morning - I'm feeling a little expansive about my fave group eva.

The below song deserves an honorable mention, because it is one of the first that my homeboy Eddie sang as a Temptin' Temptation - though it basically went nowhere. Although - I have read that since that movie - many Tempts and Eddie fans now love the song. Hearing it sung in the Temptations movie truly touched my spirit - and I came loving the song, for it grew on me. That was my homeboy Eddie "Cornbread" Kendrick. I'm glad I found the below website that features the song in it's entirety.

http://the.soulclub.org/stream/The_Temptations_-_Paradise.ram

The below song sung by Paul Williams is another one of my all time faves. My father must have had the album with this song on it - for I remembered it so strongly when I heard it in the movie. We were just returning from Germany and to Ft. Hood, TX - when it came out. The first time I was in Germany was from 1960 - 1963. We lived in Heidelberg for my first three years of elementary school. My father is from Selma, Al - so you know he loved the Tempts.

In honor of David Ruffin - below is the link to my fave song by him. Listen to the way this man makes his case. He tells the story so beautifully in the way he puts it across using his unique vocal style - and Smokey's lyrics. Brilliant tune - IMO, and I love it to pieces.

Btw - I believe strongly in talking to and praying to our loved ones that are now deceased. My mother's mother's birthday was yesterday - 8-1-03. She would have been 94. Although, in the family bible where she kept dates and mementos and the like - at some point - she scratched out the year 1909 and put in 1911 as her birth date. LOL! I used to tease her about it. I used to say - "Now Mama - why did you go and do that? You know you were born in 1909." She would answer by snapping at me - "You don't tell me. I know when I was bone (For born)." LOL!

Happy birthday Mama, and I love and miss you, and always will.

Top of pageBottom of page   By SisDetroit (68.42.209.170) on Saturday, August 02, 2003 - 01:49 pm:

You see "Paradise" was not just a hit in Detroit, which was my limited world, but apparently was in heard in Texas, far from Detroit.

Top of pageBottom of page   By SB (199.183.163.87) on Saturday, August 02, 2003 - 01:57 pm:

Hey Sis. I told you - I'd neva be the same after being hipped to the Soul Club web link. I am having a great time. I love it when the song plays all the way thru and doesn't stop and start too. LOL!

"Paradise" was made in 1961. I don't remember hearing that from my father's stash of Tempts' records. "IWALICS", was made in 1963 - and my father was stationed in Texas in 1963, after leaving Germany - so that is where I must have heard that particular song. I might have even heard it on the radio.

Btw - don't you love David's "SILMB?"

Top of pageBottom of page   By SisDetroit (68.42.209.170) on Saturday, August 02, 2003 - 02:13 pm:

Yes, I do. But off the top of my head, I hear David singing "It's Growing" "You'll Lose a Precious Love" and "All I Need."

At this moment, I'm listening to that soulful voice of Mr. Paul Williams on the Live at the Roostertail. So much deep soul in his voice.

Top of pageBottom of page   By SB (199.183.163.87) on Saturday, August 02, 2003 - 02:52 pm:

I hear you Sis. I love the ones you mentioned too - and "All I Need", is one of the ones on the heels of my top 13. I decided to stop at 13 - because that number is my birthday number. Yet - I could name another 13 and more, that I loved just as well.

Now what is that you are listening to by the first "Master P"?

Hey Sis
'Dont look back'
is just an amazing soulful record(andthensome).
I got my Gordy 45 of this magnificent record way back in the very early 70's and still have it today.
It never ceases to amaze me every time I spin it just how good it still sounds.
Although I am a total David Ruffin freak this by Paul is way,way up there with my favourite tempts numbers of all time.

mel.

BUT, you may be thinking of the Eddie Kendrick live in 1972, I think in Cleveland, when Paul and David went to see him, and each of them sang. Paul sang two songs. He sang "Just My Imagination." That has been placed on CD. Do you have it?
