Hello everyone,

This story really made me say AT LAST! Here's the link & story:

Memorial Planned for Temptations' Ruffin

MERIDIAN, Miss. (AP) - Mayor John Robert Smith says the city supports efforts for a tribute to David Ruffin, an original member of The Temptations.

Ruffin, a Meridian native, died in 1991 of a drug overdose. He was 50.

``We're not trying to build a David Ruffin Fund,'' his brother, Quincy Ruffin, said. ``We're trying to build a foundation to help people in need of educational help, especially as far as drugs are concerned.''

Ruffin said plans also include locating a park or outdoor area in downtown Meridian in honor of the singer.

After a location is secured and proposals are written, organizers can seek federal funds, Smith said this week.

David Ruffin sang lead vocals on hits such as ``My Girl'' and ``Ain't Too Proud to Beg.'' He left The Temptations in 1968 to pursue a solo career, but joined the group when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989.

FANTASTIC NEWS FOR NOT ONLY DAVID'S FAMILY,BUT HIS LEGION OF FANS.

Common,
Thank you for touching on the recent 'news'... on the David Ruffin proposal being planned in his name, there in honour of, in Meridian, Mississippi.

If I might add to that, David Ruffin is interned at Woodlawn Cemetery, here in Detroit, and it is my understanding the public is not allowed acess whatsoever, to David Ruffin's gravesite, this by decree and understanding made (with Woodlawn) by the immediate Ruffin family-- without permission and the family's approval and their written consent.

It is also my understanding that David Ruffin was interned near the cemetery's main security point, whereas, it is actually within the vantage point of the security guards housed nearby the Woodlawn administrative building.

I know of one particular incident which was told to me as having actually taken place, where two individuals were confronted and questioned as they attempted, and were turned away from access and view... of David Ruffin's grave.

But members of this forum may want to pay their 'personal' respects to David Ruffin here, by placing a 'flower' and leaving a 'note' to one of the *greatest* R&B singer Detroit had ever produced with Motown, here... during the 1960s.

And while you are there, you may want to pay homage to this other *great* Detroit Motown legend as well.

Jim,

Thank you for that info. I didn't know or probably forgot that that site existed. I will probably leave something there later once I gather my thoughts. I feel more comfortable doing that is cyberspace than actually going to his physical resting place(which can't be done anyway but I'm just saying). It's just feels intrusive & sad. But that's just me. Again, thanks for the link.

Peace!

BTW, I read all the beautiful messages there & was particularly touched by one person who goes there every day to leave a message. A beautiful gesture on their part.

Peace!

I am another one that is glad this memorial for David is about to happen. I had read on one of his fan sites that one was in the makings. He certainly deserves it.

I am hoping and praying that, they set one up for Paul Williams in B'ham also.

I know you're still singing lead in God's House David. Thank you for sharing your wonderful voice - style and presence w/us here on earth.

Talkin''bout a "SOUL" singer, and bringing it on home! There were few that could out sing that brother - and especially when he was on - which was all the time.

R.I.P. David.

Hello everyone,

Jim: That's the best Tempts sites on the net. It's run by a lady named Salina. She's very nice. She has a lot of Tempts pics & info. You can spend a good couple of hours there.

Medusa: No problem. :o)

Hey Common, but what did you think of that one 'Temptations' wallpaper shot?
And they ALL looked so cool, man, SO COOL!

Top of pageBottom of page   By Common (205.188.209.109) on Friday, July 11, 2003 - 07:47 pm:

Hey Jim! That is a pretty cool shot! Do have any favorite Tempts poses? One of my favs is the one on the back of "With A Lot Of Soul" that shows them lined up with their hands stretched out. I think there's a pic of it in color & they look very handsome. If I had that pic, I would make that a wallpaper shot.

Peace!

Geez, Common... that's a pretty tuff one to follow-up on at this very moment and time.

But even though I really enjoyed watching those Temptations on various video clips you might have seen, likewise, one of my notable favorites was when they all appeared on the Ed Sullivan show, it's Dennis Edwards singing lead (and it's 1969) along with their usual 'Tempts" routine and dance, and they looked perfect with their 'moves' on stage, with their Motor City hit, "I Can't Get Next To You."

I suggest that anyone... that doesn't have the TIME-LIFE video 'Ed Sullivan's rock-n-roll Classics' titled "THE SWEET SOUNDS OF SOUL"... well, what are you waitin' for?

That particular video tape (and it's now on DVD) has all these classic soul 'shots' as well... they are ALL very clean, clear, and so very sharp:

SUPREMES ... "Come See About Me"
The JACKSON FIVE ... "ABC" & "I Want You Back"
FOUR TOPS ... "Reach Out I'll Be There"
The RIGHTEOUS BROTHERS ..."Turn On Your Lovelight"
The IKE and TINA TURNER REVUE ... "Proud Mary"
JACKIE WILSON ... "Lonely Teardrops"
JAMES BROWN ... "Please, Please, Please"
The TEMPTATIONS ... "Can't Get Next To You"

So if you don't have this one 'soul' video in your 'home' collection, all I'm gonna say is-- GET IT.

Hey Jim,

I have quite bit of Tempts' footage. I wanted to the Ed Sullivan shows, particularly with the Motown acts, but didn't want to purchase the whole collection. And also I was wondering if they show the whole segments of those particular clips. A poster friend of mine who is a Paul/Tempts fan, told me that the Time Life footage cuts some of the songs. For example, The Tempts, dressed in those cream suits w/bowties & brown suits, sing "I'm Losing You"/"My Girl". That's the short version. I got to see(though the footage is poor), an extended version that included those 2 aforementioned songs plus, "Girl, Why You Want To Make Me Blue" & "All I Need". Does the Ed Sullivan footage include these songs/scenes?

Peace!
