I just heard from Bob Davis of the Soul Patrol that writer/producer Skip Scarborough passed away. Does anyone have any further info?

I posted this info last night under the heading of "Another homegoing".

I attended Clarence Alexander "Skip" Scarborough's funeral services today. Friends from the music business as well as some of the many he touched through his Christian affiliations gathered in a beautiful chapel, high atop a hill in Rose Hills Memorial Park to pay their final respects. It was a simple service...nothing elaborate and over the top...and totally befitting a man of understatement like Skip.
Rev. Frank Wilson was the eulogist, Terri McFadden read from the Old Testament, Jim Gilstrap & others sang a medley of Skip's hits with an ensemble led by Jerry Peters, Skip's son Marc (an up & coming writer & vocalist) sang an incomparable "Love Ballad", Bill Withers spoke a few words from the heart, and Skip's wife, Alton McLain (one & the same) sang "Blessed Assurance" with a few friends. Rev. Wilson had to eventually put a halt to the "Tributes and Expressions" from friends...because everyone had so many good things to say about Skip & it seemed we may never leave the chapel. He was well loved by many (and for many different reasons).

A second service will be held at Restoring Life International Church (Baltimore, Md.) later this week.

As a footnote, Frank Wilson sends his best to the Terrana's, Bob, Mike McLean, and the rest of the Motown family here at Soulful Detroit...and promises to log in in the next couple of days.

I was going to start a new discussion had it not existed because over the years I have seen Skip's name on everything and I just heard about his succumbing to cancer. I never met him but always thought that his was songwriting at it's best. In any field you can only reach the top, there is nothing above it, and Skip got there and never descended. His talent never waned. "Don't ask my neighbors" cause i'm "Giving you the best that i've got" a "Love Ballad". Those are the kind of songs that we all wish we had thought up. Kudos to Skip.

Hope one of those can be deleted, I came back because Skip is another person that, I am sure, many would like to see a picture of.
