Sorry I missed the initial outing, but having just heard this story, I thought I'd share it.
A collector in Oregon brought Bettye(LaVette) a 45 copy of Hey Love for her to sign. As she was signing it, she told him how Stevie had written the song for her, but Motown wouldn't let one of their artist's songs be recorded by anyone else until it was recorded by them. Thus, Stevie Wonder recorded the song that he had written exclusively for Bettye.
