Dora made a comment when I told her Barry White had died.
"Sad. That leaves only one voice now, doesn't it?" She was refering to James Earl Jones.
Barry. Destinctive. Unique. Stilled.

Sunday mornings around here are made for a pot of coffee, the Sunday NY Times and CBS Sunday Morning. They did a very nice little 2 min. reflection on Mr. White today on CBS. Thank you, Mr. Osgood.

Hey Stu,
No I have a medium voice, I did have 2 change the key a little....... I recorded that song(Karaoke) about 2 years ago, and it still sounds ok.
...but U know what?, when I listen 2 my voice, I guess U can say it's rather strong but not so deep voice, oh, I don't know.

Berry White's music will stand the test of time and will last a lifetime, forever and ever.

I was pleasantly surprised at the level of coverage in the UK awarded to Barry's passing, both in the newspapers and on television.

On Sunday, an old interview was aired by ITN, through their cable news subsidiary.

In that candid interview, Barry showed that he was unafraid to talk about any element of his life.

He displayed a high level of common sense, which like his music was a gift.

Another hero gone....Barry R.I.P.

Barry White created some of music's most elegant songs. He combined the music of his youth (doo-wop, R&B, pop) with the sounds that he loved (Motown, string orchestras) and topped it off with one of the most amazing voices God could ever give.

Like David Meikle, I recall reading interviews with Barry and seeing him on television - he was no-nonsense about his music and his life. Barry was honest, blunt, direct and pulled no punches. He also was a man of conviction and loyal to his friends, family and colleagues.

Probably the best part of his autobiography (besides his upbringing and meeting Glodean) was when he teamed up with his "Spiritual Advisor" and investor the late Larry Nunes - who offered Barry the partnership in Mo' Soul Productions. This is what helped Barry create the music he was able to do. More importantly, it showed that as long as Barry believed in himself, others will believe in him as well.

To Barry White - and Larry Nunes - well done and rest in peace.
