Pistons pick 3 solid European players.2nd overall pick Darco M is unbelievable.Saw film on him, couldn't believe what I was seeing. They picked a center from Greece with the last pick of the draft along with a great shooting guard.Their going to be great to watch along with their existent roster.Peace

HEY CALEB!!!...LOOKS TO ME LIKE THE PISTONS ARE GOING FOR THAT LATE 80'S EARLY 90'S VERSION OF A BUNCH OF "BIG MUTHA'S" DOING THE WHOMEVER BEATS UP THE OTHER TEAM THE BEST USUALLY WINS!!!...BOY...THEY SURE WENT AFTER SOME BIG DUDES...TO HELL WITH FINESSE...ALTHOUGH I UNDERSTAND THAT THE 7 FOOTER FROM CROATIA DOES HAVE A NICE OUTSIDE TOUCH (SHADES OF LAIMBEER???)!!!...STU

HEY CALEB II!!!...WHO IN YOUR OPINION WAS THE BIGGEST "BUST" AS THE # 1 PICK IN NBA DRAFT HISTORY???...IT'S FUNNY...BECAUSE...SOME OF THE GUYS THAT I KNOW THAT PLAYED IN THE NBA DURING THE 70'S USED TO LAUGH AT THE BUFFALO BRAVES...FOR MAKING LAROO MARTIN THE NUMBER 1 PICK OF THE DRAFT IN 72 I BELIEVE...PASSING OVER SIDNEY WICKES...CURTIS ROWE...AND A FEW OTHERS THAT WENT ON TO SUCCESFUL NBA CAREERS!!!...ANYONE KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO LAROO???...STU

Stu,going to have to go to nbadrafthistory.com to see past #1 picks. No one coming to mind at the moment.Really like what the Pistons are doing. When you see clips of Darco you'll be blown away.He just turned 18.Guard drafted is a gunner, can hit from anywhere on the court.Would love to see Larry Brown take them to the next level.Caleb

Stu...ABC ran a piece on Larue Martin awhile back. I think he's involved in the 'Blazer organization doing community outreach or something like that.

Maybe not a true #1 pick...but the biggest bust I ever saw was Travis "Mean Machine" Grant...selected by the Lakers. He had been a 2-3 time NCAA scoring champ...but nobody noticed that he knew NOTHING about defense...NOTHING. I don't think he even made it through training camp.

Oh please with this Darco guy, I hear he can only effectively shoot the ball with one hand. The Cavs got Lebron "King James" James. SCOREBOARD! Enuf said, and he's Akron born and raised to boot.

Top of pageBottom of page   By Caleb (171.75.84.91) on Friday, June 27, 2003 - 09:38 pm:

Scratcher,I hear you with Lebron James,he's going to be serious but have you seen any footage of Darco. The man can hit the mighty trifecta and can move in the paint like a gazelle, can shift hands with the ball like a magician and remember he just turned 18.2 years if that and he's going to be lighting it up.He needs to develope his upper body a little more but believe it he's the real deal.

Top of pageBottom of page   By Scratcher (65.238.127.233) on Friday, June 27, 2003 - 11:07 pm:

Caleb, the Pistons blew it. They should have grabbed Carmello when they had the chance. They gon' be kicking themselves in the ass for years over the Darco pick. Hell, he might not even play for you next season, his rights are still owned by the European team he plays for. What was Joe Dumars thinking about?

Stu: Long ago and in a land far away (Texas) a young lady I knew needed a ride to the Maverick-76'er game...so she could see an old flame (Lionel Hollins) and a good friend ("Chocolate Thunder"). She arranged for the tickets (which "will call" screwed up !!) and I got the chance to see my favorite player (Dr. J) throw down ! It wasn't much of a game...it was the Mavs 1st year...but afterward, we all met at the Marina Hotel @ D/FW and had a ball. Darryl may have played a "dumb***" on television...but he truly wasn't. He was truly the "ManChild"....basically a high schooler in a 6'11" man's body. He was a kid who loved to have fun and loved to feed hype to the media. He was one of the ones who made it to the NBA because of his size...but would have benefitted greatly from the maturity that 3-4 years of college would have given him (with the right coach & right program).

Nice punch...but not nearly as devastating as the one that Kermit Washington threw...almost ending Rudy Tomjanovich's career. Rudy T. basically walked into that punch while trying to play peacemaker...but *if* that had been a WBA or WBC bout, Kermit nailed him with perfect form. That was a sad day in the NBA...and KW has not been able to get a job in the league because of that fight.

There's bad blood between the Pistons and the Cavaliers, we haven't forgot how Rick Mahorn took Mark Price out that time. Mahorn hit Price, a little guy, right in the head. And we traded Laimbeer to you guys cause he was a stiff. He should have been a hockey player cause he had few B-Ball skills. Stuff Laimbeer was allowed to do back in the Pistons' Bad Boys Days wouldn't be tolerated in the NBA now. He was a dirty player and so was Mahorn. Don't be surprise when the Cavs and Pistons play in the playoffs when somebody take that little skinny Richard Hamilton out like Mahorn did Price; and the Cav's will make the playoffs next season.

Top of pageBottom of page   By RD (63.188.32.218) on Sunday, July 06, 2003 - 11:59 pm:

All NBA Players have a salary cap. There's a rookie cap and there's a cap on what veterans make. People like Garnett and others make more than the cap because they're grandfathered. The Cav's traded Andre Miller because he wanted the maximum and they didn't think he was a max player. The max an NBA player can make now is somewhere between nine and 11 million. The NBA also has a team cap but it's a soft cap, meaning they can exceed it when signing their own free agents. There is no cap on the salaries of major league baseball players but the teams have a cap (a hard cap). This hinders Texas in getting help because A-Rod takes up so much of their team cap.

VERY GOOD EXPLANATION OF THE SALARY CAP RD!!!...THE GRANDFATHER CLAUSE AND THE OTHER VARIOUS EXEMPTIONS ARE WHAT MAKE THE IDEA OF THE LAKERS GETTING KARL MALONE *AND* GARY PAYTON ...COMBINED WITH SHAQ AND KOBE,,,THAT MUCH MORE *RIDICULOUS*!!!...NOW...EVEN IF THE PISTONS WERE TO GET THAT FREE AGENT THAT CALEB SPEAKS OF...THE LAKERS WITH THAT LINEUP WOULD BE LIKE MEN PLAYING AGAINST BOYS!!!...STUBASS

Naw Stu, Shaq's getting old and disinterested and Kobe's has serious legal problems involving a sexual assault to deal with.

It's the Cav's you have to look out for. The starting five will probably be Z at center, Boozer power forward, Darius Miles small forward, Ricky Davis shooting guard and LeBron James at point with Dajuan Wagner imitating Vinnie Johnson off the bench. Davis played out of position last season at small forward and still average 20 points and six assists.

Caleb, James is bigger than Magic. Magic was 6'9" 215lbs. when he came in; James is already 6'8" and 245lbs and has a Hummer. He's buds with them rappers 50 Cents and Jay Z too.

Stubass,

Getting back to your ? about bust picks. How about passing over Michael Jordan for Sam Bowie?

The same team that drafted Larue Martin! By the way, the same team that drafted Sidney Wicks which actually was a bust pick as well (you just couldn't tell by the stats).

The same team whose point guard just got busted for the 3rd time in the past year for pot!

Caleb....it's in the mix !! Payton to L.A. (as a free agent with a hefty pay cut)...and if he comes Karl Malone is signing too.(I don't wanna see his whinin' behind in "Laker blue & gold" though....)

Top of pageBottom of page   By RD (63.188.32.60) on Monday, July 07, 2003 - 09:13 pm:

Wagner was actually a bad pick by the Cavs but most Cav's fans don't think so yet. They drafted him to play shooting guard but he's too small, they thought he was another Iverson, hardly. Plus, he's not as good as Ricky Davis who played out of position last season at SF and still excelled. An experiment at point with Wagner was disasterous. Darius will be fine if Paul Silas has the team running more than they did last season. He (Miles) is a subpar halfcourt player. The Cavs also has to hope Z doesn't break something in either of his feet.

I heard about that game Caleb; they talk about it on the radio here. You must be from the Camden/Philly area. Wagner's going to be the sixth man off the bench; you can't start him over Ricky.

I DIDN'T START THIS TIME SOUL SIS...I SWEAR!!!...RD...I GUESS I MY MOM MUST HAVE TRAVELLED THROUGH MISSOURI WHEN SHE WAS PREGNANT WITH ME...BECAUSE...HE'LL HAVE TO *SHOW ME*!!!...YES...HE DOES APPEAR TO HAVE ALL THE ASSETS...BUT REMEMBER...THE NBA GAME IS 50-PERCENT PHYSICAL...AND 50-PERCENT MENTAL...AND THE LATTER HAS YET TO BE PROVEN!!!...HOW WILL HE ADAPT TO FOUR OTHER *GREAT * PLAYERS AROUND HIM???...HOW WILL HE ADAPT TO THE TRAVEL AND PRESSURE???...HOW WILL HE ADAPT TO THE TEMPTATION (SEE SOUL SIS...I MENTIONED A SINGING GROUP)???...THESE QUESTIONS AND MORE HAVE YET TO BE ANSWERED TO DETERMINE HIS FULL IMPACT ON THE CAVS...OR ANY OTHER TEAM FOR WHICH HE MAY END UP PLAYING FOR (CAN YOU SAY SHAWN KEMP???...)...STUBASS

REMEMBER RD...IT'S EASY TO MAKE GREAT PASSES WHEN YOU'RE BEING TRIPLE TEAMED BY A BUNCH OF KIDS...AND YOU'VE GOT FOUR OPEN GUY'S TO PASS TO!!!...THIS WON'T BE THE CASE FOR LEBRON IN THE NBA...SINCE MANY DEFENSIVE SPECIALISTS WILL BE ABLE TO GIVE HIM ALL HE WANTS BY THEMSELVES!!!...STUBASS

Lebron James has his head on straight. Have you watched any of his interviews? He wants to win and bring a championship to Cleveland.

What four other great players around him?

Other than Ricky and second year man Boozer the rest are just OK. And Boozer may be a flash in the pan. Z plays no defense and Darius doesn't have an outside shot or much of an inside one other than the ocassional wide ass open dunk.

Everyone is hoping the whole will be better than the individual pieces because of Labron's unselfish play and superior passing and playmaking skills.

I HOPE HE DOES WELL RD...BUT AS OF TODAY...I'M NOT INVESTING IN HIS STOCK...AS OF TODAY'S CLOSE...THE PRICE IS WAY TOO HIGH (CAN YOU SAY .COM)???...!!!...STUBASS

I agree with RD.Lebron James definitely has a good head on his shoulders. He's going to do well.As far what's around him I think in time they'll build a solid team there.Good to see you pop in Stu.Hey,if the Lakers bring in Payton and Malone, forget about it.Their going to be raising up another banner.

Top of pageBottom of page   By STUBASS (152.163.252.68) on Monday, July 07, 2003 - 10:30 pm:

AGREE ON BOTH POINTS CALEB...BUT LEBRON WILL HAVE TO LEARN TO OVERCOME THE TEMPTATION TO DO IT ALL BY HIMSELF!!!...THAT WON'T WORK IN THE NBA...LIKE IT DID IN HIGH SCHOOL!!!...STUBASS

Top of pageBottom of page   By Caleb (171.75.84.7) on Monday, July 07, 2003 - 10:36 pm:

Stu,do you sense he's a selfish player or just that there's no other quality players around him?

Top of pageBottom of page   By STUBASS (205.188.209.109) on Monday, July 07, 2003 - 10:43 pm:

I COULDN'T BEGIN TO GUESS CALEB...BUT I'M SURE HIS HIGH SCHOOL COACHES PRETTY MUCH ALLOWED HIM TO RUN THE SHOW...AND WITH NO COLLEGE EXPERIENCE TO GAIN THE KNOWLEDGE AND WISDOM OF BEING "COACHED"...HE'LL HAVE HIS HANDS FULL (AS WILL HIS COACH) IN GETTING HIM TO ADAPT!!!...KEVIN GARNETT HAD THOSE TYPES OF ADJUSTMENTS TO MAKE...AND HE DIDN'T DO IT OVERNIGHT...ALTHOUGH HE HAS TURNED INTO A FINE PLAYER...ALBEIT GAINING THE TAG OF FIRST ROUND PLAYOFF FLOP!!!...DARRYL DAWKINS NEVER GAINED THE DISCIPLINE THAT ONE TENDS TO PICK UP IN COLLEGE...AND IT EVENTUALLY LED THAT GREAT PHYSICAL SPECIMEN RIGHT OUT OF THE NBA!!!...STUBASS

That's interesting Stu.We shall see.Let's not forget about Darco. He's coming in similiar being 18 years old but his basketball background is a little different-international tournament play, etc.I'm just pumped over here on the upcoming season.

Top of pageBottom of page   By STUBASS (205.188.209.109) on Monday, July 07, 2003 - 10:54 pm:

VERY GOOD POINT ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE OF INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION CALEB...BUT I DON'T THINK THAT DETROIT IS LOOKING AT DARCO AS THE "SAVIOR" THAT CLEVELAND IS LOOKING AT LEBRON TO BE...AND HOPEFULLY PISTON MANAGEMENT WILL ALLOW DARCO TIME TO ADJUST AND FIT IN WITHOUT ALL THE PRESSURE THAT LEBRON IS SURE TO BE UNDER!!!...CAN YOU SAY PEYTON MANNING???...STUBASS

Top of pageBottom of page   By Caleb (171.75.84.7) on Monday, July 07, 2003 - 11:00 pm:

Stu,excellent observation.I think Detroit is the perfect place for Darco.Dumars knows what he's doing as far as player developement.2 years ago Okur was their 2nd round pick and he kept him in Turkey to develope that first year.It was a great move,he looked real good in his first season with the Pistons-shades of Bill Laimbeer. He's going to be a good player you can already see it.

STUBASS HITS THE NAIL ON THE HEAD!!!...IT'S NOW BEING REPORTED THAT KARL MALONE HAS AGREED TO SIGN WITH THE LAKERS FOR THE 1.5 MILLION DOLLAR "EXCEPTION CLAUSE"...IF IT HELPS THE LAKERS TO ALSO SIGN GARY PAYTON (FOR OBVIOUSLY MORE MONEY)!!!...STU

Was just reading where Payton's going to decide tomorrow on the Lakers. It's the Lakers or the Heat.He prefers the Lakers.

Top of pageBottom of page   By RD (63.188.33.102) on Tuesday, July 08, 2003 - 07:00 am:

Just heard the Cavs are going with Lebron at point, Dejuan at shooting guard, Ricky Davis at small forward, Carlos Boozer at power forward and Z at center for their summer practices. Darius Miles will be coming off the bench if he can't beat out Boozer.

Caleb: Despite the championship possibilities...most people here DO NOT want Karl Malone as a Laker. Laker fans have never forgotten Malone's uninformed remarks and refusal to play with Magic (All-Star game ??) because of his HIV positive status. Plus...he's thought to be one of the NBA's greatest whiners, and if the refs had not continued to let the Jazz run their illegal screens...he AND Stockton would have been washed up a few years ago.

CALEB!!!...IT'S NOT A DONE DEAL YET...BUT I PERSONALLY THINK THE SIGNING OF MALONE AND STOCKTON WOULD GIVE SHAQ SOME MORE INCENTIVE TO GET HIS HEAD BACK INTO THE GAME!!!...WICKED...I UNDERSTAND YOUR POINT...BUT I THINK THAT KARL AND MAGIC HAVE LONG SINCE MADE PEACE...AND KARL HAS ADMITTED THAT PERHAPS HE SPOKE FROM A POINT OF MISUNDERSTANDING!!!...R&B...YOU'RE NUTS!!!...STUBASS

Payton has made a verbal agreement to join the Lakers thru the mid-level exception-4.9 million for the season. The pact will be signed July 16th.This is a serious acquisition.Peace(catch up with you tonight Stu)

It wasn't televised so I going by accounts from the sports media but they're saying Lebron James and Darius Miles put on a show in the first Summer League game tonight. Lebron played point and dished seven dimes in 23 minutes. If you're projecting that's more than 15 assists a game. A superstar is in the making right here in Cleveland, Ohio, the best location in the nation. CLEVELAND ROCKS!!!

The Cavs will DEFINITELY be better this year! I think LeBron is for real, plus I'm happy with the free-agent acquisitions we've made (Kevin Ollie and Ira Newble may not have been the biggest names out there, but they can play DEFENSE, something that was sorely missing last year).

This kid Kapono that we drafted with the second-round pick--I think he'll be another Boozer-like sleeper, especially if he can shoot from long-range as advertised.

Best,

Mark

HEY MARK!!!...GOOD LUCK ON KAPONO!!!...ONLY THING I CAN TELL YOU ABOUT THIS LOCAL COLLEGATE PLAYER IS...HE CAN BLOW A 20 SECOND TIMEOUT JUST IN THE TIME IT TAKES HIM TO RUN FROM CENTER COURT TO THE BENCH!!!...WELL THEY *DID* SAY THE SAME THING ABOUT LAIMBEER...BUT HEY...YOU GUYS IN THE CITY BY THE LAKE DIDN'T WANT TO KEEP HIM EITHER!!!...STU
